robinlovesbillie Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 It took me longer than it should have to realize that the image on the CD is Billie and Norah, not some strange looking yellow statue in the middle. I'm not seeing it.........looks like a strange yellow statue to me!
AngelBlue_ Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 I'm not seeing it.........looks like a strange yellow statue to me! Billie and Norah are the orange part
robinlovesbillie Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Billie and Norah are the orange part There's something wrong with me! I just cant see it????? This album sounds so good - nice and relaxing. I agree the videos are lacking. I guess it is a cliché but mixing clips of Billie Joe and Norah playing would increase my viewing interest. Could be that they have decided to focus on the music and what it means to them than show case themselves. Yeah, the videos aren't doing it for me either....

OMG look: I made them black so you can see it better. Norah is on the left and Billie on the right... you can clearly see their nose and mouth...
Ryan Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Well...um...holy shit. I fucking love it. I will never listen to this album when I'm dead ass tired and driving at 2am, but it's fair game any other time of the day!! I absolutely love the way their voices blend together. Billie still sounds like Billie, but is definitely much more relaxed and subdued. Definitely some very heavy lyrics and topics...makes me wonder how the fuck the Everly Brothers pulled it off when they were like 17 years old. I'm predicting at least 2 Grammy nominations. I just have this weird feeling that this album is actually going to be pretty damn successful and well received.

The vocals are the stars here, so subdued videos that depicts broad themes, help set a general mood or period focus, and just let the vocals stand out for what they are (and, I agree, without glorifying the vocalists themselves in the process) I think is very appropriate here.

I kind of said the same thing but certainly not as eloquently as you, Michael. Nice to have to back!
Tubbie Head Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Not sure if I should wait or not I haven't found a way to purchase it without crazy ass shipping prices involved! I think I'm gonna wait until the release date, like I usually do.

Grammy nominations, yes, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see a CMA nomination or two thrown in there as well. This stuff's been covered countless times already, but I'd argue never with vocals this rich. It's 60-year-old country/folk in a style that's nearly been lost to time....yet with these vocal arrangements Billie and Norah not only rebooted it, but turned it into something new in the process.

Also, the awards committees LOVE cross-over collaboration type stuff. There is just a lot of raw emoticion in these tracks that will really speak to a wide audience. This is going to end up being bigger than either of them ever intended it to be. Anything that gets Billie out there more and allows the masses to see his true talent (especially after events of the past year) is absolutely fine by me.

Ryan Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 I just read a mini-review of Foreverly that referred to Billie as "a member of the ageing emo group, Green Day." I almost punch my computer screen. Had positive things to say about the album though. Haha
Cameron. Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 I really like this! Very chill and very #based Nice way to wash out the bad taste that the trilogy left in my mouth.

Hero_Of_The_Hour Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 A nice review of Foreverly in The Irish Times online music section today http://www.irishtimes.com/culture/music/exclusive-album-stream-and-review-billie-joe-armstrong-and-norah-jones-foreverly-1.1599923
Tubbie Head Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Maybe they'll perform at the Grammys! That would be awesome!

All this Grammy talk. Gets me too excited too early. Is there much precedent for cover albums being highly touted at awards shows? I know that Ray Charles cover album (featuring Norah Jones, who herself is a darling of the Grammys, which bodes well...) was what beat American Idiot for Album of the Year. I just don't even know what kinds of awards this would be up for. Has there been great buzz for awards from reviews, or do reviews not really mention that stuff yet? Grammys arent till February, so...

Heather. Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Its not eligible this year (as cut off was October) next years grammy it'll be... Ill may have to vote next year... Aw poo, that's a long time. And the Country Music Awards just passed.
Alan86 Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Finally getting around to listening to this, 4 songs in now and loving it, vocal sensation Edit: full album done. Im not really a country music fan but I must admit im liking this quite alot.

Like, would a legitimate reviewer ever use that term to describe a music genre?
