Cob Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 The quick B to Db variation at the end of "Scattered." I've always been a big fan of that. Hearing "Dominated Love Slave" the first time I listened to Kerplunk.
DanPak Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 I also like the bit in before the lobotomy where the key changes and it bursts into a reprise of the first section. It gives me chills every time. And I suppose I could say the length of Jesus of Suburbia, I did not expect it to be 9 minutes long.
WhiteTim Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Like a Rat Does Cheese "Suck my dick until you're lips fall off" did not expect that, then again I probably should have Tre writes funny ass lyrics It's just a combination of random 2 Live Crew and other rap lyrics
JOE THE X-KID Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 The reading version of Stay the night, when Billie sings "I gotta know if you're the one that got away" and you hear a slight echo of the crowd singing it. Goosebumps. I wish the crowd was louder though...
Spike Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 The reading version of Stay the night, when Billie sings "I gotta know if you're the one that gotta way" and you hear a slight echo of the crowd singing it. Goosebumps. I wish the crowd was louder though... That entire performance of that song is incredible. Especially the backing vocals in the chorus. Mindblowing. I was so disappointed in Uno after I'd heard that.
PleasedToMeetMe Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 The first time I heard Blvd of Broken Dreams I had to listen to it again, because I couldn't believe it. I loved it, and still love it, but boy did it catch me by surprise!
Kill_the_Lamp Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 The beginning of Panic Song surprised me. I had first heard it from an old CD so I thought it was skipping. then when the rest of the band came in it blew me away.
brat-39 Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Not really Green Day (well, kinda) but when I was first getting into The Network the chorus of Roshambo caught me off guard.
Hermione Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 There's loads, but my favourite is definitely the surprise sax solo in Pieces Of Truth. Simply fabulous!
Tubbie Head Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 The beginning of "Ashley". It scared the shit out of me the first time I was listening to "Dos" YES! I loved that, it was a strangely awesome unexpected moment! I would also say listening to Take Back for the first time
Hermione Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 It's just a combination of random 2 Live Crew and other rap lyricsI was really surprised when I heard Green Day had a song called Like A Rat Does Cheese, I couldn't believe they had a song named after a 2 Live Crew lyric . My brother had downloaded it and I assumed it wouldn't really be a Green Day song when I went to listen to it, but to my surprise and delight it was. First listen of that was probably the most unexpected moment in their music for me ever actually! Made sense once I found out Tre was a big fan of classic gangsta rap though.
Tubbie Head Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Hearing "Dominated Love Slave" the first time I listened to Kerplunk. This too! But the first time I listened to it was some live recording from the live CD "Transmissions". That was actually one of the first CDs with Green Day's music I heard hahah. I was like wow I love this but Billie's voice sounds so different here! This thread is nice!
The Grouch is Tracy Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 The first time I played Dookie and turned the volume way up because I couldn't hear FOD at first...
UNICORN VOMIT Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 It's a bonus track on the deluxe editions of the audio versions. There's no video as far as I'm aware. learn something new everyday
fromdecimateddreams Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Misery. It's just such a different sound for them and it totally caught me off-guard when I first listened to Warning. But it fits perfectly on that album. And the sax solo in Jackass. Love it.
Ham Pascale Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 The first time I played Dookie and turned the volume way up because I couldn't hear FOD at first... Same here.
PoisonLemonade Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 When mikes vocals come in in X-Kid. Goosebumps. this.
jacknovella Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Nightlife was unexpected...not in a good way either.
Mykee Mexx Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 The intro of "Stop when the red lights flash". It started like it could become a catchy, rough, good rock song, but went on as a lame, rather disappointing singsong not matching the expectations the intro aroused.
Judges daughter 93 Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Uptight - the moment when Billie ends singing 'the future's in my living room'...that was when I started to love that song
Flyingdonutz Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Church on Sunday, when it sounds like they fucked up then they jump right back into it. Always liked that part. Espionage. When I first listened to Shenanigans I hadn't heard that track before and I was like wtf is this shit. And for a while I could never figure out when Jinx switches to Haushinka. And oh my god the first time I listened to like a rat does cheese I just sat there laughing the whole time.
Spike Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 When the bass solo of Chump kicks in, and the transition into Longview. The first time I was listening to Dookie I was like "woo yeah, Chump, good song... What the fuck is this shit?"
