I don't a Radio 1 in my country so I don't give a damn if they played on the Radio or not. In fact, I don't listen to the radio so much in those days. Radio today is not the same as it used to be. I remember when a song was playing in the first time on the radio, people were exciting, I even taped it  but now it's just 'meh'.

The Trilogy album is not masterpiece like AI but I still like the songs.

Sensible man.

I agree with this. Katy Perry is an amazing artist and deserves every bit of success that she has.

Roar aside, I'd agree. I think the song brings nothing new to the table and I was really disappointed with it. It's stil catchy as hell though, even if I think it's a weaker song.

Agreed, it's an earworm, but it's not one of her strongest ones, lyrically or musically.

Definitely! It was completely expected from her. It wasn't so bad until I saw the horribly cheesy music video and lyric videos for it. I just think it's another corny "I'm strong and independent" song that's directed at 13 year olds with self esteem problems. Sorry kids, there are literally discographies of songs about the same thing, can we get it off the mainstream for just a bit?

can everyone who thinks there is such a thing as "real music" take a step back please

All genres are OK. There's only what was forced and paid for to be played and what needs to be discovered.

looking at the current discussion, we should totally have pop thread or club

Everyone has there own opinions, like me I love the triology and I think I'm one of the few But still considering that it does have a low rating and not many people like it then that's why they don't play it on radio and honestly I've never heard a green day song on the radio (except when I come around) and that was like 3 years ago so therefore they has never actully been popular on the radio

Green Day has been popular on the radio. Blvd got played every frikkin 30 minutes in 2005.

Plus 21 guns too. They overplayed it to the point that I couldn't even listen to it anymore.

Feel free to make a pop thread in Other Artists if you want. Or if it's just a specific pop act you wanna discuss look to see if there's a thread for them there/make one if there isn't.

Radio 1 played Know Your Enemy today. Just saying.

No wonder people are going off Green Day.

That just proves they have bad taste in music :P

Says the girl who likes Katy Perry

I like Katy Perry. Haven't heard her new album though.

No this is not some elaborate troll. I do want to see DookieLukie shart himself sideways though.

I think Katy Perry is hot. And I listen to her music solely for that reason. I do not think she makes (or has made for her) quality music, nor is her voice good live.

So basically the same reason I listen to Green Day.

Precisely, my friend.

There's no doubt people at Radio 1 do like Green Day. Zane alone is a genuine fan. It's just that pop is always going to rule the roost, and indie music has made a massive comeback after 4-5 years in the wilds because of EDM and Dubstep. People spent all that time complaining no good music was on the A list, now there's stuff like Haim, The 1975, Palma Violets etc. Fact is even if Green Day were at their peak, they don't fit in the trend or narrative of the current music scene.

Punk rock hasn't been particularly popular in the mainstream since 2005, and it won't be for a while. As a genre it's not got any big new names, there is no innovation, and the scene is nowhere near the size of the indie or electronic scenes at the moment. So why would Radio 1 waste air time that is valuable on a band who's most recent release isn't, objectively, the top of their game and sacrifice not only the draw of major pop stars - like Miley and Rihanna who like it or not serve a purpose and get us all talking - but also the rising talent of the local and international scene that is currently propping up the music industry on the independent level after years of people wishing for just that. You can't have it both ways. Major Label rock bands with members in their 40's - that isn't mainstream Radio 1 right now. Don't expect it ever to be again. It's foolish.

The only thing that makes me a bit upset is that Green Day are so good to them - gave them interviews, released snippets of trilogy songs, etc. the least they could do is to just keep their negative comments to themselves and maybe play stray heart once a week.
