DTH Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 No… That's called an opinion, not a fact. of course that's an opinion. and i think that opinion is right. thats the nature of a discussion. if everybody in an argument would state beforehand "in my point of view" it would annoy everybody to death. I agree with this. Katy Perry is an amazing artist and deserves every bit of success that she has. her lyrics are pure poetry. the music world would miss her like john lennon, jimi hendrix, joe strummer or jim morrison.
DTH Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Then why quote my post out of all the others when I clearly disagree? What am I gonna do, suddenly see the light? because i wanted to relativise your allegation that people here critisizing radio music are saying that "all current music is shit". that isn't the case. p.s.: i like macklemore. he is an exeption.
Malleus Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 I'm sorry but that's your opinion. I never hear anything pop on the radio that I like and I'm not picky or close minded but it all just sucks so bad. The only rock out there is this soft acoustic Bruno Mars type of shit or some terrible pop song that will all of a sudden have a rapper jump in and rap about something that has nothing to do with the song itself. The radios fucking disgusting and I could give a shit if Green Days ever on it again. At least as long as it is in the state it is which who knows how long it'll be till actual art is appreciated again. "Radio don't play anything I'd listen to It's really quite a waste cause I couldn't even make it through It seems to me what I create Is almost something beautiful It really fucking irritates I'm never gonna be on the radio" Whatever man, you look childish bitching about how THE RADIO SUX REAL MUZZIK IS DEAD WHERE IS PUNK?? when you're 20 years old. "I'm not picky or close minded." May wanna look up the definition of both of those terms.
halfempty Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Deadly serious! Haha it's fine, you don't have to agree with me. I love the trilogy, don't get me wrong, it's just I hate when people act like all mainstream music is shit. Katy Perry is an extremely talented artist and makes great tunes. She's also one of the more positive female role models out there amongst the pop divas while still being fun and sexy. It's not that I necessarily dislike her, and there are several mainstream artists I like, but a lot of their songs are just so overplayed. It's just frustrating to hear the same song over and over again. But I see your point.

I remember being so sick of Boulevard of Broken Dreams being on the radio all the time, I felt like smashing my copy of American Idiot over my head.

I remember being so sick of Boulevard of Broken Dreams being on the radio all the time, I felt like smashing my copy of American Idiot over my head. Haha, yeah, I know what you mean. When AI came out you heard it on the radio everyday probably twice a day. Even it's your favorite band, the same song played over and over gets old. Now though I think it's quite nice to hear Boulevard of Broken Dreams on the radio.
Malleus Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Yeah, now every time I hear Green Day on the radio I make sure everybody within a five mile radius is silent and tear up. It's a very rare event these days haha.
Otis Big Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 It seems like it was meant for the radio. I don't think the songs have the right sound at all. I think it was more of a fan based project.
Hero_Of_The_Hour Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Ok...weirdly I read scanned this article and wasn't even bothered by them not liking the Trilogy...hell most people heared Oh Love and KTDJ and decided the whole thing was going to be shit...I would say that was entirely a fail on GD's part for starting with their weakest shit and ending with the best which nobody ever heard but anyway...my whole reaction was DONT YOU DARE SAY THAT ABOUT THAT SHIT GALLAGHER! Jesus fuck...nobody is more deserving of a good kick up the arse.

It's not like it's anything new for them to release the weakest song of an album as the first single Know Your Enemy, American Idiot, Longview... Obviously American Idiot is great but it's still one of the weakest on the album, because of how brilliant the album is.

Yeah but in fairness you can't compare American Idiot or Longview with Oh freakin Love which is like a bad Bon Jovi album track. Also the Trilogy was three albums long and what I'm saying is I bet everything I have (which isn't much haha) that most who bitch out the trilogy (in the media) have never even heard it all the way through and imo Tre has some of the best tracks (that have been completely overlooked because of the shitty situation in the past year).

Yeah, you're right. Tre will end up becoming massively overlooked even though it's one of their best albums overall. Oh Love was a mistake but I can see where they were coming from, Kill The DJ was just plain stupid.
Mykee Mexx Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I'm sorry but has anyone actually heard the shit that gets played on the radio. I'm glad Green Day don't get played if that's the attitude towards them. They Don't need to be part of that. Harhar, nice way to accept failure...
JOE THE X-KID Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Harhar, nice way to accept failure... they never failed in my eyes ...I would insert the Billie emoticon right now but my iPod don't let me
Virtue Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 That's okay, Radio One is not Good Enough to play Green Day anyways.
DookieLukie Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I'm at the point in my music career where I don't care i what I like is popular. I really appreciate what Green Day did with the Trilogy. I think it's really cool.

WhiteTim Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 American Idiot and Longview are iconic. Yes but still far from the best songs on their respective albums
Spike Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 American Idiot and Longview are iconic. Oh yeah, I agree, they're just nowhere near the best songs on their albums.
Anaïs. Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Oh yeah, I agree, they're just nowhere near the best songs on their albums. Honestly, though, even if you're not a fan of "Longview" (I love it), I have a hard time picturing which song could replace it as a single with the exception of "Burnout", which I think would be too similar in style to the other singles.

I see what you mean, it is the only song on Dookie apart from maybe When I Come Around that stands out as different from the others. In that respect it was a reasonable choice, but also odd as a first single to represent the album. Burnout would have worked as a single, or maybe Having A Blast.

I'll agree with you that it's an odd lead single; I'd've gone with "Basket Case" or "Welcome to Paradise".
WhiteTim Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Which sold more Longview or Basket Case?
Spike Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Which sold more Longview or Basket Case? Basket Case. I don't know the specifics, but it outsold Longview by quite a long way and charted higher and in more countries. I think the fact it came out after Woodstock helped it.
