Guest Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Damn, you guys are vicious today. I heard you liked that
The Disappearing Boy Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Yeah there definitely needs to be more b sides. As for Lights Out: Damnit more people need to like this post. The amount of trouble I went to to get that picture there, it deserves it!!

The Disappearing Boy Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 That image was used to death when it first popped up, don't start the cycle again But I've never seen it before so I can claim ignorance of that!
Jollyroger118 Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Shenanigans (minus I wanna be on tv) is just as good as any other GD album in my opinion. Shoplifters one of my favorite songs from them, which is odd cause it's like a novelty song. Oh and Too Much too Soon is on the list of my favorites as well. Obviously we all want more music but I don't feel a gaping hole in my heart over B-Sides when we have twenty years worth of albums. And an album of B-Sides. However Dreamcatcher should have been on the trilogy as it's better than half of the trilogy songs anyways so I do wish that would be released in some form. And Blink sucks, I don't know what it is about them but they're so bland and lifeless.
Spike Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Having given this issue serious thought today... I'd be more into the b sides idea if they did something different with them. I don't want to hear diet versions of album tracks when I get b sides. I want them to experiment. Hell, Governator was great just for Mike singing lead. If they did something like that again, either with Mike or Tre singing, or did instrumentals, or fucking Mongolian Nose Flute Jazz Crunk Dubcore nursery rhymes, just SOMETHING to set them apart from the album tracks, I'd be on it like a priest on a choirboy.
Todd Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 That whole Trilogy thing really passed you by, didn't it? You can bash the trilogy all you want, but more then half those songs are much more enjoyable than something like Rotting.
Guest Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 You can bash the trilogy all you want, but more then half those songs are much more enjoyable than something like Rotting. Sooooo, in your opinion, just under half of the Trilogy is worse than Rotting?
tdlyon Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 they're just a shitty pop version in my eyes not copycats, just kinda crap. I always see you saying stuff like Blink is pop shit and they make really immature songs. Not trying to attack you, but have you heard anything they've made since 2001?
WhiteTim Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 So Green Day haven't made immature songs as well? Songs like All By Myself Dominated Love Slave Playpus aren't really dipped in maturity (as much as I love those songs)
Spike Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 So Green Day haven't made immature songs as well? Songs like All By Myself Dominated Love Slave Playpus aren't really dipped in maturity (as much as I love those songs) I think the point was meant to be that Blink have made a career out of immature songs, including a lot of their singles. Obviously Green Day have had quite a number of immature songs, but they've mainly been album tracks and rarities. I can't imagine they'd get away with releasing Like A Rat Does Cheese but it does outdo anything Blink have ever done in terms of immaturity I do think there's more to Green Day's immature songs though, in that they're actually funny. As opposed to Blink when it's just like "penis penis penis, lololol I have no idea how to play guitar oh well I'm famous."

I guess since I've never really listened to Blink only the singles aside from Adams Song All The Small Things and Stay Together I never cared for em nor heard thier immature songs
Guest Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 So Green Day haven't made immature songs as well? Songs like All By Myself Dominated Love Slave Playpus aren't really dipped in maturity (as much as I love those songs) Hi, my name is "Fuck Time", and I'm here to talk about mature songwriting.
Jack Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 I didn't read the second page, but I saw someone mention that you guys discussed "Lights Out"...I fucking loved that song. It's better than all but 1 or 2 of 21CB. Sounds like it could literally have been on Dookie.
cj_unoxx Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 one thing that they never do is release acoustic versions of songs as bonus tracks, loads of other bands do it and i would love for them to do that I mean it could be in a deluxe album which we hardly see from them as well. Anyone else agree?

Not trying to attack you, but have you heard anything they've made since 2001? I own their entire back catalogue and I still can't stick them. So Green Day haven't made immature songs as well? Songs like All By Myself Dominated Love Slave Playpus aren't really dipped in maturity (as much as I love those songs) we all know GD can be immature but like 80% of the time, not so much. I can't see Blink ever doing a song as emotional as Wake Me Up or 21 Guns. I think the point was meant to be that Blink have made a career out of immature songs, including a lot of their singles. Yeah, blink do have their incredibly emotional songs. Adam's Song, Miss You, Always, Pretty Little Girl, Stay Together For The Kids, to name but a few.
Spike Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Yeah, blink do have their incredibly emotional songs. Adam's Song, Miss You, Always, Pretty Little Girl, Stay Together For The Kids, to name but a few. I have to agree with this. I actually really like their more serious stuff, a lot of their self titled album and Neighborhoods is actually very good. It seems when the lyrics are more mature the music is a lot less... How can I put it... Chimp buttfucking a banjo.
Insomniac1984 Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Well Green Day just decide what is good for them to release or not, the fans are not considered at this point. Of course I would like a "Shenanigans part 2" or a box set with "37649762 exclusive rare unreleased tracks" and whatever. I really hope that 20th Anniversary for Dookie would be a chance to listen to a lot of unreleased material, the same for American Idiot 10th or 20th anniversary. And I'm disappointed there are not any studio B-side available from the trilogy (The tracks from ¡Cuatro! doesn't count to me, they are just "samplers" not the full versions). We had just radio edits and live tracks.
PleasedToMeetMe Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 I would like to see Green Day be as confident with their b-sides as The Living End. They have tons of b-sides spread out on singles that are all very, very good. A lot of them are better than the songs that made it to the albums. They have also released collections of unreleased songs, acoustic versions and demos.
Virtue Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 My guess is that they're saving them in case they want to put that song on an album.
That Dude Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 For such a prolific band, Green Day have released remarkably few B-sides. Excluding live versions of album tracks, early EPs, soundtrack contributions, and covers, their total of bonus tracks and B-sides comes to a paltry 16, 19 if you include the 3 songs from International Superhits. Considering they've released 11 full length albums, this is an incredibly low amount of leftover material from the creative process. It makes me wonder, are there dozens of unreleased B-sides in the Green Day vaults? They've released some very long albums, such as Nimrod and 21stCB, which may go some way to explaining the dearth of B-sides from those eras. Perhaps The Network accounts for a full album of B-sides Green Day never got around to releasing. Also for the Trilogy, B-sides should not be expected, regardless of the fact that much of the Trilogy itself is inferior to many older B-sides. I know this thread may be scraping the bottom of the barrel of things to discuss, but hey, it's better than bashing 9Gaggers all day. Also, I think it raises some interesting questions about how Green Day go about releasing singles and recording songs. They have TONS of them. With every album they talk about recorded large amounts of songs. Sadly, they just don't release them. Like many people have said, I think they hold onto the songs that aren't so good to maybe revisit them later and redo them. You are correct, we need more released B-sides. There was a whole albums worth of them from the trilogy, and tons more that are great. From the Trilogy: Hello Firecracker Oh Girl Dreamcatcher Gabriella I'm Alright Ruby Mae Hotfoot Jamberoree Life is so Plain Sattelite Can't Believe my own Eyes (there are at least 7 more from the trilogy, but they were never confirmed. just rumored, or different names for existing tracks) There are so many more unreleased Green day songs that aren't necessarily b-sides, but not released. Officially, the band has released 161 total songs I believe. But I have a list of over 900 unique tracks by them. (lot of live covers). and looking at my list, 72 of them are impossible to listen to.
JardyOfSuburbia Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Good topic to discuss. It's always annoyed me how little "extra" material the band releases. The lack of B-sides blows my mind. One of my favorite bands, REM, released B-sides at an alarming rate and most of them were just awful. Surely Green Day could put out more than what they have right? What also blows my mind is the inability to put out a full-length concert DVD. Bullet In A Bible I'll let pass because it has the interviews and what not, but there is no reason that Awesome As Fuck shouldn't have been an entire concert on DVD. That annoys the hell out of me. I give them credit for starting to put stuff out on Record Store Day and hope we might get something again this April, but I'm doubting that with the release of 39 Smooth on vinyl in March.
WhiteTim Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Be happy with what gets released Green Day doesn't have to put out anything at all they could have just released the albums and nothing else b sides are not a required thing for bands to do
