Here we go again. bunch of AI "fans" like always. -.- I'll go with Nimrod. Best fcking Green Day album!

I am 20 and the first Green Day album I heard from Green Day wasn't AI. It was a Dookie record from my parents. This is just a question what kind of person you are. I though GDC was full of "old school" Green Day fans but I know see there is only bunch of teenagers who get to know Green Day only becouse of songs like Holiday and American Idiot that were on top chart lists at that time. Bunch of glory hunters, not fans at all. Anyone who says AI is more punk than Dookie is wrong in so many ways -.-

here, you're well deserved reward

ok so anyway. my first album was American Idiot. i first heard part of it when MSN put a snippet of AI up. i constantly played that one part on repeat and pissed my mates off to no end. fun times. at that point i didn't do illegal downloading (because i didn't know how) and couldn't afford the CD's so it took me like 4 months until i could listen to it all properly when my mum got me all their albums (plus Shenanigans and International Superhits) for Christmas. safe to say, i was hooked from them on out. but yeah, AI is the reason i am who i am today and i quite literally owe my life to GD, if it weren't for that one tiny clip of AI on MSN, i wouldn't have gotten into them and i wouldn't be here today.

also, my favourite albums are Warning & American Idiot. just in case anyone wonders (and because that twat pissed me off)

Like most people it was American Idiot that got me into them. But what sealed my love for them was Dookie and I haven't looked back since.

I think this thread is a beautiful thing, and we should continue it without anymore fighting. The fact of the matter is, all of us have had our lives changed by Green Day, and all we are supposed to be doing is expressing which album is the one that did it. To have your life changed (or even saved) by music is such a deep and meaningful thing, and the fact that we've all experienced that with the same band connects us on a truly powerful level. SO no more tearing each other down please!

So if 21st Century Breakdown was my first Green Day album I shouldn't call myself a fan? It's so deep.

My anwser to the question is 21st Century Breakdown. Why? It really changed my life. First off, I started listening to rock after falling in love with the reocrd. What's more, I believed that I'm more than fucking nerd. I changed myself.

I like cookies. What do I have to do to get them? Can I go to an insult generator or something and generate some insults? :P

.

.

.

All jokes aside...wow, THAT was weird. How can you blame a bunch of people for not having been born earlier or whatever?!

At the same time, I do not like the way everybody swore at the person who went mad. Some culture would be nice.

So, everybody is guilty or stuff and we can now go whip ourselves and have a bunch of whipping fetishist watch us and enjoy.

Sounds like we should head back to the fan girls thread for kinky stuff like that! Ha ha

American Idiot was the album that really got me into music and defined the music I like. My best friend brought the album into school in 4th grade and the second I heard the intro chords to American Idiot I was hooked. That weekend I went out to the store and bought it. First album I bought with my own money. I listened to essentially nothing but that album for about a year and a half. Then 21st Century Breakdown immediately became my favorite album of all time when I heard it and remains till this day. Green Day will always be the greatest band ever.

Also I find it fucking hilarious that you complain about punk posers when your avatar is Hayley fucking Williams.

Hayley is definitely not a punk poser though  She never had that attitude.

The first songs I remember hearing by them were Basket Case (the reason my mom hates the band) and When I Come Around. I was with my dad one day and he played American Idiot and I was hooked. American Idiot, Jesus of Suburbia, and Letterbomb in particular caught my attention.

Out of interest, what does she have against Basket Case?

I have to say it was American Idiot, as it was got me into music in the first place (granted I was only 10 when it was released and I didn't even realize the songs I liked from radio and tv play, were all from the same band for another 4 years). Then 21st Century Breakdown believe it or not just cemented it, and since then I have traveled all the way back, as well as into bands that Green Day have worked with and have influenced. Music has become a major part of my life as it is how I deal with stress, and other matters, so I think American Idiot really had a huge impact on my life through the chain reaction it caused.

Also I find it fucking hilarious that you complain about punk posers when your avatar is Hayley fucking Williams.

I agreed with everything else you said, but back off. No attacking Hayley, she never tried to be punk, she just does here own thing and gets labeled. You cannot really be a poser when its other people who call you by a title.

Hi Green Day fans,

I was wondering what album changed your life or made you a Green Day fan?

The album that changed my life was American Idiot. I was about 10 years old back then. I was skateboarden with my metthew and he always had a radio with him. I hear songs like Holiday and BoBD. I really liked it so we went to his home and search it on the web who they are. Finaly we found them :D It was amazing when we saw them the first time. We listen a lot to AI back then. We also discoverd the old songs and we really.liked it. It was the best year of my life and ill be forever a Green Day fan!

I hope I will read the story of yours :)

Greetings for The Netherlands.

American Idiot :)

this is probably not a common one but Bullet in a Bible.

Dead set, without it I have no idea where I would be. When I first got it I watched it 9 times in a week. I was fucking obsessed. I also listened to it a shit load and ever since then Green Day have/are a huge impact on my life. Listening to them in raw form and how they interacted with the crowd just made me love them so much and the rest is history

I was thirteen and while on holiday in Germany I had been listening to the Offspring's Americana album and was instantly determined to find more music similar. Eventually I was in some department store that sold music and I found myself looking in the Punk Rock section, despite having no idea what punk rock music was I picked up Dookie to look at that awesome album artwork. I saw the words 'Green Day' on it so I said "Oh, I've heard of these guys before, this might be okay". Upon first listen - Mind fucking blown. I had never heard such good music before. I then instantly got into all of Green Day's 90s contemporaries like NOFX, Bad Religion, Operation Ivy, Rancid, more of the Lookout bands. And that pretty much ignited my whole interest in punk rock regardless of how much MTV and radio support the band got, this album made me a punk.

It's also interesting to note that I bought Coldplay's Viva La Vida along with Dookie. Funny how quickly that CD was thrown aside...

Gunna say Nimrod since I would never have gotten into Green day if it weren't for that album. I heard my older brother playing Hitchin A Ride on repeat and bam that was it. Here I am later still in love with the band. It has not been easy being a single dad and I have to say this band is probs what got me through...the music, waiting for the next time I'll see em live, looking up to them. It may not be my fave anymore since I well overplayed it lol but it is still the album that changed my life since it got me into them.

I never got why people have problems with fans who got into em post Warning era? Idiot is a great album what do you expect. Yeh sure Im an older fan, but I don't see a reason to have problems unless your some kid getting in my face and screaming 'let me suck your dick BJ' in my ear.

American Idiot introduced me to Green Day...but 21st Century Breakdown is the album that cemented them as my favourite band of all time, so I'd say 21cb

American Idiot. Without that I wouldn't have gotten into GD so that changed me a lot.

For Green Day it was Dookie Spring/Summer 94

For rock album Nevermind

For other genre it was U.G.K. Ridin Dirty

UGK Ridin' Dirty is one of my favorite albums of all time. love that record.

As for Green Day it would definitely be Dookie got the album on cassette a year after it was released in the fall of '95 on cassette. purchased Insomiac shortly after that. as for another genre it would have to be The Notorious B.I.G. Ready To Die.

Dookie was the first album I ever bought/listened to on my own and got me into music and has remained my favorite album for five years and counting as well has been a major influence on me and my bands musical style (even though we cover like half the songs on American Idiot and only Longview off Dookie)
