i normally don't even pay attention to his voice not being perfect and it doesn't bother me, but he sounds exceptionally bad in this. even i can't ignore it. i made the mistake of watching this video of waiting and then that video of jos you posted and the difference is insane.

That's what irritates me about when people say he still sings well. He really doesn't, even compared to 2 or 3 years ago. It's like 2 completely different people.

Insomniac and Nimrod

Probably the "Nimrod" and "Warning" era.. yep.

Warning/American Idiot, with Nimrod coming in second. I like his voice to be less nasal, but the obvious trickery on 21CB and the Trilogy really annoys me.

American Idiot/21st Cb I can't pick.

American Idiot, definitely. I just love the pitch of his voice on that one.

The Reverend's voice.

But basically everything from AI to Trilogy era. I love his voice at any time though.

Ooohh... I don't know

I first heard his voice on American Idiot. And that album pretty much is my favorite for everything...

But in the trilogy now, what he did on Brutal Love... melted my ears, my heart, and everything else.

In what era his voice doesn't sound beautiful, anyway? In the beginning sounded a little sharp; but I remember when I listened to Kerplunk! for the first time and No One Knows sounded so different; so soft and dry, don't know how to describe it well.

And he can go from singing something crazy, with shouts and all, like in Makeout Party for ex. and then on Stray Heart his voice sounds the sweetest And I love that from him, it feels like he can sing anything

hmmm either nimrod or 39 smooth

In terms of live performance. Now for sure.

Insomniac

American Idiot

Trilogy

Tough question! Insomniac was pretty good for attitude, Nimrod for clarity, but I think American Idiot is my favourite. I don't know why, but his accent seems to come through more on that album, and it sounds awesome, especially on the title track.

"Warning," hands down!

I agree that is singing was way better during the 21st CB era. But I'm still pretty blown away by the way he sings Brutal Love.

American Idiot

Nimrod era for the classic songs, but 21cb or trilogy for the newer stuff.

I agree that his voice was fucking phenomenal through out the 21st CB era, but I'm more drawn to the imperfections, so I prefer early 90's and trilogy era, I think.

Anytime but now. His voice is utterly awful live :S

Posted

American Idiot. That's good balance between roughness and clean voice.

21CBD & Insomniac. Clean & rough. I still think he sounds amazing in Brutal Love.

But I guess we'll have better vocals on the next albums than the trilogy. He sounds much better after rehab.

Also, I freaking love his voice live. :P

Technically speaking, the American Idiot era. His voice was at its clearest, yet maintained a strong sense of aggression and force. But I find the nasal quality to his singing in the early to mid nineties particularly charming; especially in songs like Best Thing In Town or Coming Clean.

nimrod and warning, hands down

I think a mixture between 21st and the Trilogy . Just awesome.

And for the studio vocals, definitely Nimord.

But the way he sang during Dookie..(specally at Jaded in Chicago)

the way he screams his soul out during their songs is just awesome.

It wouldn't fit now 'cause he isn't a "teenager" anymore so that's why I think his voice is awesome as it is.

Alcohol abuse.

I'd say 21st CB era.

Is there any scientific proof for that?

Yeah, really Lady Nightlife??? Give it a break.
