I have a physical copy of the article in front of me. Yes, he said "it would be great to do another rock opera, but using more low technology". It's called musing, throwing out ideas etc. He didn't say he definitely wanted the next record to be that way. And he absolutely did NOT say the album would be out soon. In fact, he thought it was "too early".

The problem with that is this: what is the most common sentence you hear from people when talking about Green Day? "The old Green Day is better, they should create more music like Dooke again". And that repeated concept may have influenced what the trilogy came to be. I'm not saying that the band did not feel like doing that, or that they did this kind of music to please the people who wanted that style of music, but it has been a recurrent "petition" for Green Day since they made AI, and that's a long time asking for the same, which I think inevitably has had some influence in the band, and that's why it may seem forced and not as natural as it should be.

The trilogy doesn't sound anything like Dookie or their old stuff though. The only similarity is that it's simpler, but even then it's not simple in the same way. I don't think they'd ever make music just to please fans who want the same old stuff (those fans didn't get what they wanted with the trilogy anyway). I think they just felt like going in a fun, retro, dirty rock and roll direction after the comparative seriousness and complexity of AI and 21st CB.

I have a feeling that green day will either have something special in store during 2014 and they will in the process be working on new songs and then I see them recording a new album at the end of 2015 and releasing it in mid-end of 2016.

Anyone agree?
