darenmay Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 because people kept comparing them to the previous albums and expecting they'd be as big. did green day even mention the trilogy was their best work by far in their career?
littlegirl-of-suburbia Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 I do love some of the songs from the trilogy (most of them are on Trè)... However I didn't expect the trilogy to be as awesome as American or Dookie, because it seemed like a huge amount of material to come out at once (also they were released within very little time of each other)... I guess that what I'm trying to say is that I wasn't that suprised that some of the songs were amazing and others poor compared to Green day's usual work.
Angelica. Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 This is just a unpopular opinion from my side because I'm not a GD fan (yet I'm still here lol), but when I heard Oh Love for the first time... It sounded A LOT like other bands, it sounded too "mainstream" if you can even use that word. To be honest, I thought it sounded a little bit too much like Europe or Queen, but that's just my opinion. I have a hardcore GD fan at school and he says that he's really disappointed at these three albums because as someone mentioned on the first page, he expected more of a punk sound from GD because they are labeled as a punk band and rock band. But now they're leaning towards the poprock side. Again, this is just my opinion and I'm probably gonna get shittons of hate from hardcore GD fans lol. But seriously, I hope you understand how I'm thinking. I'm in the music industry myself and they really are starting to sound a lot like poprock and not pop punk or punk.
Spoopy Doo Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Because it's not a rock opera. I think it's pretty good music. ¡Uno! is my least favorite trilogy album, ¡Tré!'s in the middle, and my favorite of the three is ¡Dos!
Bastard of 1969 Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Because it's not a rock opera. Neither is Dookie, and he grabbed big success.
Clean Cut Asshole Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Because it's not a rock opera. If that's the case, people would hate everything they did except for AI and 21CB.
Spoopy Doo Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 If that's the case, people would hate everything they did except for AI and 21CB. Good point
Clean Cut Asshole Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Anyways, in all honestly I think why people didn't like the trilogy was because they were probably expecting more from GD. Granted, I didn't expect much from the trilogy, so obviously that's not why everyone doesn't like it. And many people have pointed out how the lyrics aren't that good, I couldn't agree more. Although there are some decent songs from the trilogy, I do think it has some of the worst songs the band has ever done, both lyrically and musically. Plus, some of Billie's rhymes in the lyrics just make me cringe how lame they are. And I totally agree with them just choosing the best and putting them on one record. Dos should have been a FHT album, then the rest should have been released as b-sides to singles. Then they should have just given "The Forgotten" to Twilight, I don't think much of that song anyway, so I wouldn't care if they just gave it to Twilight and didn't put it on one of their records. Good point I have my bright moments.

I don't think it should be either, I can't tell you how much I hate Twilight. I was just pointing out that they could have just given it to Twilight and my opinion on the song really wouldn't change.

Vespertine Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Generic, uninspiring, uninteresting albums, imo. There is nothing about them that I really like, except for maybe 4 or 5 songs.
Khris Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 "Unholy in the holiest of holes" makes me laugh and shake my head every time I hear it. XD
Razorblade_Romance Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Below average. I think they could have taken 12-15 of the songs and just made one solid album. I found it very boring.
Clean Cut Asshole Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 "Unholy in the holiest of holes" makes me laugh and shake my head every time I hear it. XD Totally, that line's lame! But the one that really makes me cringe is the line in "Fell for You", "haunted stories in the midnight hour, The Kiss of Death from the Eiffel Tower."
Angelica. Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 "The Kiss of Death from the Eiffel Tower" sounds so..... unprofessional somehow lol
Artificial Idiot Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Totally, that line's lame! But the one that really makes me cringe is the line in "Fell for You", "haunted stories in the midnight hour, The Kiss of Death from the Eiffel Tower." Some people pick words just for their sound not for meaning. Other times they are looking for a quick and easy think that could roll off of the tongue.
Clean Cut Asshole Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Some people pick words just for their sound not for meaning. Other times they are looking for a quick and easy think that could roll off of the tongue. Yeah but see, I don't get that. When I write songs, I always try to rhyme with something good and all of my lyrics have meaning. I don't care if it rolls off the tounge or not.

I don't care if it rolls off the tounge or not. You and me both. Some people have to (uh Green Day) write stuff that has no meaning so it can somewhat get through the thick skulls of our generation.
The Grohl Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 I think people got upset because the songs aren't as epic and they really didn't go for a larger than life feel on these records. Rather they're more about partying and in some ways growing up, so a lot of people saw it as a step backwards. No, it's not their greatest work, but there are some good songs here and the records are fun at least. Personally, I liked the fact that they stepped away from the rock opera thing and did an album that's about letting loose.
Clean Cut Asshole Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Oh, another line that's really bad is "Count your blessings going zero to five, steal a kiss then I took a dive."
Otis Big Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 DOS IS SUCH A GOOD ALBUM It seems like nobody appreciates it like I do. The songs are so catchy and sound good. Great lyrics on tracks like Lazy Bones, Wild One, Stray Heart and even Nightlife. Nightlife is a pretty poetic song. "Red velvet walls line these sugar coated halls" And just that deeper sound that both UNO and TRE lack.
BullwinkleCheech Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Worst albums by Green Day. Ranging from decent to uninspired crap.
captain peroxide Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Is it too late to say "because it was rather mediocre"?
Caractériel Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 They could easily have made one very good album from the songs on all three releases. There's too much filler for my liking and there's a few songs that are just pure WTF? worthy. There are more things I like about the Trilogy than dislike, but it's rather disorganised and random which isn't like a Green Day album at all. It's not a huge deal anyway, it's not like it's going to hurt their career in any way. Every great band is allowed to have a dip in album quality at some point.
