Maid Meringue Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 ^ it wasn't a matter of how extreme they were dressed, it was the overall "punk persona" that the video portrayed. I'm pretty sure 80% of us are punks in our own right without being whiny, sloppy arseholes. Which is why they're called actors. Yeah, and? I said to not look like them. That's up to wardrobe and the script. 1 Quote
Todd Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 ^exactly. It's like they were trying to portray Green Day as something they're not. That wasn't a DIY Punk roots crowd, that was some whiny, poser, self-absorbed druggie goth crowd. That's not what most Green Day fans are at all. That's not what Green Day were either. 2 Quote
That Dude Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Over ten years and still nothing happening? Ugh. Maybe for the 20th anniversary... Ew I can't believe they're still wanting to do this movie. I hope it has a different plotline than the musical. If not, they may as well have just recorded the broadway production and released it on DVD. I always wanted the broadway show on dvd... Quote
Amanda Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Let's be real for a moment, Billie's acting makes Keanu Reeves look like Laurence Olivier. 4 Quote
Maid Meringue Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 I always wanted the broadway show on dvd... I'm surprised that they didn't. I kind of just assumed that Broadway released DVDs of their popular performances, because I used to put in the Cats vhs (oh '90s ) when I was a kid. 2 Quote
Anaïs. Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 Let's be real for a moment, Billie's acting makes Keanu Reeves look like Laurence Olivier. At least Reeves has one role he does well (the deadpan confused guy). Billie doesn't even have that. Quote
Hermione Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 To be fair he did play Broadway St Jimmy well 1 Quote
Amanda Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 To be fair he did play Broadway St Jimmy wellI think there's an atmosphere with live theatre that just doesn't come across the same in a movie. That's probably why the stars of stage musicals seem so over the top when they attempt stuff on film. Chin for a Day Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 I doubt he will be playing St. Jimmy anyway. By the time the movie gets made, if it gets made, Billie will be getting his AARP card. Plus, his acting isn't that bad. Quote
That Dude Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 I absolutely loved the Broadway show. However, they did change the story. They are talking about "making it shorter", which could work. I think they should make it "pure", as in do the 13 songs off American Idiot and that be the whole thing. I wouldn't mind some dialogue, particularly the liner notes. Those should be included. Quote

Contra Costa Civic Theatre announced this week that their summer musical will be American Idiot - V John Paulsen · It's a great show! Vince what ever happened to the movie? Is it still gonna happen? Chin for a Day Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Just stop. No movie, please. The musical wasn't enough? I'm fine with the movie, I think it will translate well to the screen. But, please do not have Billie play St. Jimmy! By that metric, maybe we can have Judi Dench play Whatsername. Quote

By that metric, maybe we can have Judi Dench play Whatsername. In the Broadway musical St Jimmy was always played by an older actor (Tony Vincent is 41 and the other temporary actors were all in their 30s or 40s). He doesn't have to be the same age as Johnny/JOS, he's a separate character and I think it's appropriate for him to be older and more experienced and streetwise as a tempting influence over him. 1 Quote

The character was written as a teenager, since he is JoS alter-ego. Yes, in Hollywood characters can be translated to any age but the concept of St. Jimmy being the alter-ego loses its effect with a huge age difference and that is a major part of the story line. One way to compensate, is to make all the actors older, teenagers aren't the only people disgruntled and adrift in the world. Either that or alot of computer graphics. The movie is still progressing, slowly, but it won't be made anytime soon. The chances are good that he would play the part anyway because they will need the name recognition. I just really feel he is getting too old to pull it off successfully unless alot of creative license is used in the casting of the whole film. Quote

He's interpreted as much more of a separate character in the musical, an older drug dealer who shows up like a ghost and lures Johnny into bad things. It's set to be a movie of the musical rather than a new interpretation of the album so I think it'd fit in that context. Quote

One thing for sure, when the movie does eventually open, I bet we will both be there on opening day. I know I will. Quote

Yeah I think could be done either way since he's an alter-ego as well. But I'd rather they go the way where Billie can be in it . But yeah looking forward to seeing it (if it ever gets made) regardless! 1 Quote

He’s set to reprise the key role in a HBO movie version of the musical, which is scheduled for production next year. “I’m one of the writers, it’s a very slow moving process, it moves at snail pace. I’m open for anything with acting.
