Best Green Day Guitar Solo: Round 1

Just because one thing is more complex or difficult than another it doesn't have to be better, right? That way of thinking just reminds me of the people claiming that Green Day are not talented musicians because many of their songs are easy to play. Then again, I'm not a guitar player, so I just go for the ones that bring me closest to an eargasm

Haha same here, my votes have been based only on the catchyness of the solos.

It took me forever to choose between The One I Want and Kill the DJ. I like the solo in The One I Want because its just awesome and fast, but I really like Kill the DJ because its got like a funky cool sound to it.

Well, the voting makes me crazy  I jump from remembering how Only Of You solo sounds to Letterbomb to Nuclear Family and so on

Anyway... even Drama Queen's solo is better than Makeout Party :P

I love this!! But it's really hard just to choose one solo :P

I think I was wrong to call Billie Joe a mediocre soloist...what was I thinking??? These are awesome!

It's all about the influences.

I'm so predictable, but at the end I'm right.

JOS vs Wow! is SO difficult for me. JOS is emotional whereas Wow! is so kickass. I can't choose!

Listening to them isolated, by themselves makes a hell of a difference, right?

It does. I think I just focus on the overall feel of the song normally. It his rhythm guitar I usually care for.

Boulevard Of Broken Dreams winning againts I Want To Be Alone. That is just weird for me.

I find it lol-worthy that Castaway wasn't included. They do start shredding pretty good at one point but it's quite possibly the shortest solo in the history of ever.

Well, the little mini solo in Who Wrote Haulden Caulfield happens to be my favorite

There's more than one solo in Jesus of Suburbia, I think they all should have been included.

As if anything but Dry Ice has a chance.

[Edit:] Also just looked and saw that you're using single bracket. Way to pick just about the worst system.

Just went back and listened to it, it was actually rather lengthy, I feel like it was deserving of a spot in the tournament.

Thiiiiis. I love the solo in Castaway, it's one of my favourites even though it's really short.

Also the mini sax solo in Jackass deserves a shoutout even though it's not guitar cause it's badass.

The Forgotten and 21 guns...hmmmmmmmmmmm!

People have different criteria for what they consider a good solo. Maybe they like that it's more complex, maybe they like how it fits on the song better, or maybe they just think it sounds better as a whole than its competitor. Just because you think x is better than y doesn't make you right.

Match-ups are random. We talked a lot about this and decided there wasn't really a good way to decide "this song should be up against this song" and we didn't want it to be an "old vs new" finals or something. So we just randomly picked the match-ups. Yeah, there are some really clear standouts and some will get stomped - but that's how it goes.

Oh alright. Thanks for the clear up! And yes, that seems to be the best bet, I guess :)

I was there's solo is more complex than rusty jame's in my opinion. Doesn't that make it better? This is just gonna be a favorite song competition

Eh, I dont know. Just complexity doesnt make something automatically better. I think feel and how it fits into the song matter just as much. This was my idea, and I DEFINITELY dont want a favorite song contest. That's why we put the mp3 players there, so people can listen to just the solo. We'll see!

Meh. It's just a little bit of bluesy bullshit. Is the bass solo included in the tournament? Cause that at least gives it a chance.

Dry Ice's solo has three distinct "sections" to it and works on a number of levels.

Just a shame 'Ha Ha You're Dead' isn't there, I always like that solo, but I presume the rules don't allow it as it is repeated.

Nice contest it will be interesting to see other people's opinions, I certainly have my favourites!

I'm loving this competition! It's great to spend my time listening to the solos of my favourite songs...not easy to choose

I LOVE THIS :woot:. It's so great listening to them all. The One I Want's solo has always been my favourite because it evokes a strong emotional feeling in me and I can't even explain why so I hope that does well. Shame it's against the fabulous Kill The DJ one really!
