Flyingdonutz Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 You have no fucking clue grunge is then lile Kurt said "we're not a grunge band" The closet thing Nirvana had ever come to grunge was Bleach and that has more to do with Endino's production than the actual music... Pearl Jam gets labeled as grunge only cause they're from Seattle (and Stones and Jeff former band Green River were a grunge band) they'd be hard rock/alt rock same as Nirvana Funnily enough some of Ten songs were Green River's rejected tracks I don't like grunge. I don't listen to grunge. I don't even like punk. I barely like pop punk. My biggest musical influence is Green Day, though, but they're kinda their own thing. I don't have a fucking clue what grunge is because I think it's shit and I hate nearly every band associated with it. I hate almost every band associated with pop punk too. I like stuff from the 70s. And 80s. And some metal. Not big on the punk stuff. The Clash i like and the Ramones but like with Grunge, I think it's a pretty shitty genre. So no, I can't really classify what's grunge and what isn't. I've only watched one grunge documentary and I was forced to in a guitar class. That's all I know about it. If Nirvana isn't grunge, then whatever, don't really care. They still had the biggest influence on the genre.. ever.
SaintJimmyOfSuburbia Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 How is Nirvana not grunge? I mean really, Nirvana had all the ingredients of a grunge band.

I used to be so deep into grunge now outside of Mudhoney dont care to listen to it Grunge real grunge is basically metal just slowed down with more distortion like TAD and Green River and Rapemen etc I always just classify GD as rock cause they do too many different styles of rock even on one album How is Nirvana not grunge? I mean really, Nirvana had all the ingredients of a grunge band. Nirvana was not a grunge band Go listen to TAD or The Rapemen or Melvins or Cat Butt who are grunge and tell me exactly how Nirvana sounds like them?

Well you kind of sound like the people that say Green Day aren't punk! Go listen to (unknown punk band here) and then tell me they're punk! Green Day has that punk attitude. Not so much the genre. But the attitude. And that's what it's about. Nirvana had the grunge attitude.

Feel good about that, mate, cause I've had some pretty insane experiences on the internet. And yeah, btw, Grunge does have an attitude, just like metal does. It's like Punk. Just trashier. G'day.
Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 So I won't argue that Stairway has way less radio airtime than Teen Spirit but hell, Stairway inspired so many people to pick up a guitar, and play. The Tab for Teen Spirit has been viewed 3 million times. That's less than September Ends. By 2 million. Stairway has 10 million views. I think that conclusively proves that Stairway is a bigger influence on musicians than Teen Spirit. Maybe not mainstream music. But musicians and bands? Stairway>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Smells like Teen spirit Going by your other posts, you're actually being serious here. "Conclusively proven" by how many people have viewed a tab? Hahahaha. Dookie revived punk and completely changed punk. Forever. Yet it's only 30, and it was probably the 2nd or 3rd most popular album of the 90s. The same greatest hits set? Every single album Green Day has released (EVERY. SINGLE. ONE) has produced a massive hit that every Green Day fan loves.. Dookie had 5. Insomniac had 4. Nimrod had 4. Warning has 3. American Idiot 5. 21st Century breakdown.. don't really feel like counting. Each of the albums in the trilogy has 2 or 3 hits that mostly everyone likes. That's not the same greatest hits set. Not when it changes with every tour. Without Dookie, Green Day likely wouldn't have made it through to 2000, nevermind releasing two decade/genre/generation defining albums in American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown. Dookie is still relevant to Green Days shows today, everyone looks forward to hearing songs like She and Welcome to Paradise. Songs and albums that truly stand the test of time are nothing but pure quality. That's sort of the point I tried to make there. You're confusing "any song released as a single" with "massive hit". Insomniac had no hits, Warning had none, Nimrod and 21st Century Breakdown had one each, and 21 Guns barely even made it to that status. The trilogy hasn't had a single one. For a band with 10 albums out, to be playing the same 20-25 songs every night is a greatest hits set, particularly when most of them come from their two successful albums. And 21st Century Breakdown is in no shape or form a decade or generation defining album, not by any means of the imagination. Also this seems unbelievably obvious but songs can stand the test of time without the band needing to be playing them 20 years on. That's, you know, the reason the Beatles are the best band of all time.
clipperqueen2020 Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 i'm at least glad that dookie made the list!
