Killers played a new song that mentions Green Day

I never understood where he was coming from, and I thought he was being ridiculous. A band suggested America wasn't the greatest country on earth? BLASPHEMY! That said, I like the Killers, it's pretty obvious this really simple line was a way of trying to move on from it.

That's definitely not what he meant. Brandon said he thought Billie was pulling a stunt because he knew there was a huge anti-american sentiment in Europe at the time. I don't necessarily agree with him, but he does have a point. I don't think he was suggesting America is the greatest country in the world at all. Then again he took it back so I don't get why people are bashing The Killers because of this.

Woah woah woah.

Not a poet?

You CLEARLY have not heard even a handful of songs with an open mind from this group. Poet?! Fuck, Brandon is definitely a poet. IF you can get behind Billies very simplistic lyrics,(which are fantastic for that factor) and proclaim those to be deep and thoughtful than Brandon is nothing short of a poet.

Wow. First, I CLEARLY said that my thoughts on the Killers was an opinion. Then, I CLEARLY said their relationship with the members of Green Day has no bearing on my interest in their music. I'm as unbiased as I could be in such a situation. Yet you insist that I haven't heard enough of their music (by the way, I've heard most of their singles and Hot Fuss so...) and that Flowers is DEFINITELY nothing short of a poet, as if there were no two ways about it.

Who's the fanboy now?

Ya know, I typed up a really great comment that was a solid paragraph long, but then I deleted it. If your only argument is "who's the fanboy now?", you are really not worth talking to as a normal and mature discussion will not be had.

I can understand that on a few tracks. Especially on Day and Age, they just couldn't figure out how to end the fucking songs!!

In their defense, there are some songs on there that I love and can see how ending it would be a big deal for them, as the end to a song can ruin it entirely.

Do you have one in mind in particular?

There's a few, but in terms of their bigger songs Mr Brightside always stood out in that respect to me.

That one? I don't think it's ending goes on too long, I'm listening to it now though. I think Smile Like You Mean It, the next track, is one that can't end. It just feels like they want to go into another chorus in a lot of these songs and that they just, sort of, stop playing. It's not bad, but on Hot Fuss in particular it is really noticable now that you've pointed it out. XD

It just ruins a lot of songs for me. It's like they realised they were doing the classic verse chorus verse chorus bridge chorus thing, and then thought "NO WAIT WE'RE COOL AND HIP AND INDIVIDUAL WE'LL DO IT DIFFERENTLY" and then they just made a balls of it.

Billie says on stage i hope steve jobs dies which is ALOT worse thing to say than what Brandon said and theres no fuck Billie ill never listen to Green Day etc

Lol are you serious, there was a massive shit storm of people condemning him in that case. But anyway it's to be expected that people will jump to the defense of their favourite band and be hard on people who criticize them. The Killers' fans would no doubt have a similar reaction if Green Day slagged them off.

BUT what I don't get is, Brandon Flowers has basically just apologized/made amends for his comments.........so why are people slagging him off NOW, in response to this thread? Has anyone actually read the OP?

I'm sorry, but I didn't really want to debate The Killers with you anyway. I just wanted to make the point that I genuinely don't like the Killers, regardless of whether or not they get on with Green Day, so there's no need for you to take some kind of non existent moral high ground.

I really enjoyed the song...i think it was a great idea. And the eeooss really did fit in considering the most famous wembley concert ever is Queen's and freddie used to sing eoos all the time.
I don't know why you guys are hating on them so much honestly

To be fair I think the thread was deleted. But yeah people did react pretty strongly to it, to put it mildly.

I never let Brandon's opinion on Billie stop me from enjoying The Killers. That being said, I was never a huge fan of them, but they're good in my books. I'm glad Brandon seems to be at a better place with himself where he can apologize for shit like that. You go Brandon Flowers.

Oh my God, I can't even imagine the shit that was stirred up. On one hand, I'm incredibly glad I wasn't around for it, but on the other, I'm kind of wishing I could read through it now, just to see what exactly happened! I think both fandoms were bigger, younger (that's a kind way of saying "immature") and crazier in 2005; sure, both of them still exist today, but had Brandon said this today, I think it would have been brushed off just because of the decline in popularity of the bands, especially in America.

Oh no I meant the Steve Jobs thing a couple of years ago. I wasn't around for the Brandon Flowers comment either, like you I can only imagine it . But actually come to think of it there was some kind of disaster on GDC around 2005/2006 where everything got deleted/lost, so unfortunately none of the AI era threads exist.

Well, honestly it's a bit rude and childish yourself to be telling someone not to have an opinion or show emotion over what someone said about an artist they really care about. :ermm:

I'm not saying don't have an opinion. What I'm saying is you allow yourself to be offended by something that has NOTHING to do with YOU.

Because we are fans and we have a right to be offended?

The same way I'm a fan of Dr Pepper, but when people tell me they hate the taste of Dr Pepper, I don't go and flip shit? lol

Yeah, there was a thread about it and plenty of comment, but it wasn't that huge of a deal because at the time, Green Day were provocative and outspoken, and for various figures to react to them was a fairly regular thing.

I love this speech of Billie's from when they received the Spirit of Liberty Award - it kind of encapsulates how they were in the AI era.

Are you seriously comparing being a dedicated fan of a band with liking some kind of soft drink? OH GAWD

The comparisons in this thread: apples and bananas.

Which are both fruit. Cheese and chalk would be better :P

Seriously, though, The Killers and Brandon are totally different now than they were in 2005. Brandon has definitely been humbled by success and failure in equal measure. I know I'm biased because I do love TK so much, but I think that's why I believe Brandon is sorry and is seeking forgiveness. He has become more of a family man/rooted in his faith, and I think with that, he's grown up and seen that there was no reason to say this kind of stuff because shitting on other artists isn't gonna help your bottom line and it's just gonna make you seem petty.

Which tbh I think is the reason I don't think their music is that great anymore, they lost it after Hot Fuss and some of the b-sides from that period that are on Sawdust. I loved when Brandon was singing about girls. He did that perfectly. The reason Mr Brightside is overplayed to death is because it's a legitimately great song about heartbreak. Daddy's Eyes, Under The Gun, On Top, Smile Like You Mean It, those were the things I loved about them and they abandoned them for the heartland rock sound, and big sweeping statements, when they were better suited to the minutiae of relationships. IMO of course. In fairness they did play Wembley Stadium, although if they had never released Hot Fuss and had only released the other albums I am pretty sure they'd never have been able to play there.

hahahaha you guys are always doing the absolute most with the least.

a bit of topic but does anyone remember when kings of leon bashed green day. It was so long ago can't remember what they said. It was in 2005? before they blew up. So perhaps nobody does

I thought they were such hypocrites when they were having drinks with GD during the 2009? grammys.

I don't know this just reminded me of that.

I think that Green Day have already heard the song and don't give a f*** on it

(just a thought  )

See I'm the opposite! I think that the maturity has made their music better. Battle Born and Sam's Town are my two favorite albums, followed by Hot Fuss and then Day & Age. I think the obvious change in maturity level (particularly in Brandon) is easy to see going from album to album, and it's pretty cool. But I see where you're coming from, there's definitely a distinct shift in Brandon's songwriting after Hot Fuss.

I think when you said bad things about a band/album/DVD, you have to live with the consequence which is that Green Day, especially Billie Joe, will never forgive him

Also how often I apologize for what he said

(I listen to the Killers, so I have nothing against them)
