Slave To The Network Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Lol because you're butthurt over something that's not even related to you. So what you love Green Day, doesn't mean you have to get offended because someone else doesn't (or didn't) like them. Seriously it's what a child would do. Well, honestly it's a bit rude and childish yourself to be telling someone not to have an opinion or show emotion over what someone said about an artist they really care about.
J&TheNight Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I never compared The Killers to Green Day in the first place. I stated that The Killers often writes lyrics they pass off as "deep"... and then people started comparing them the Green Day. All you just did is support my argument The Killers do have many deep and fantastic lyrics, they aren't just trying to pass them off as deep, they ARE deep. Sorry they aren't as obvious as BJA's for you, but you should definitely look into what a lyric means before knocking it. Well, honestly it's a bit rude and childish yourself to be telling someone not to have an opinion or show emotion over what someone said about an artist they really care about. It's not that people are upset that he said it, it's that most immediately jumped to somehow bashing The Killers instead of just saying "I really don't like that, it's rude and unprofessional of the Killers" and leaving it at that.

Well, the person who was being so called "childish" was not bashing them. She was just stating that fans have a right to have their own opinions about it. That's what I was offended by. I can take or leave The Killers. I really don't care either way. But it's not cool to harp on someone when they didn't even bash them.
belinda jane Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 i don't understand why people are arguing over this, seriously. people are always going to stand up for their favourite band and bash another band that had a negative opinion on them - it's how it's always been.

I don't think he was saying it directly to that one person, but more in general to the people who were bashing and taking it really deeply.
Guest Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I actually have nothing against Brandon's lyrics, coz lets face it, every lyricist comes up with absolute bollocks from time to time. I do have an issue with The Killers musically though. They really don't know how to end a song properly. They always seem to try to go for a big fancy ending and it just sounds... wrong.

What. You act as if everyone should praise The Killers. We are the GREEN DAY COMMUNITY and not a THE KILLERS COMMUNITY and everyone has their own opinion on the topic.
The Forgotten Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Holy crap I've never seen a picture where Billie looks as a chubby as that
Vespertine Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 What Brandon Flowers said in 2006 was completely understandable. He wasn't bashing Green Day ffs.
Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 If the only viewpoint is all praise be to Green Day and everyone who criticises them is automatically wrong, then we have a problem. But he's right, a lot of people are slagging off the Killers, because Brandon Flowers said something they probably weren't even aware of at the time it happened, and it's been brought up now several years later BECAUSE HE APOLOGISED FOR IT. People shouldn't automatically defend their favourite band each and every time. No one's infallible (except Tom Waits). Fanbases that do that to extreme measures are the ones that the rest of the world hates.
belinda jane Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 What. You act as if everyone should praise The Killers. Vespertine Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Again, apples and oranges. Two different styles of songs. "Are we human" is meant to be meaningful and deep. Troublemaker is intentionally silly. Are we going to start comparing Weird Al' to Frank Sinatra? I guess most songs on the trilogy are intentionally stupid thennn
Asa. Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Start with Hot Fuss and just go in order from there. Theres a very distinctive change in style that's fun to hear from album to album. I really enjoyed Hot Fuss and so far Sams Town is good too. I kinda feel bad for being narrow minded before
J&TheNight Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 What. You act as if everyone should praise The Killers. We are the GREEN DAY COMMUNITY and not a THE KILLERS COMMUNITY and everyone has their own opinion on the topic. Or you know, act like mature adults and not just bash a group that gave a word of criticism to our all holy Green Day. You know, just be reasonable people and not crazy fanboys. If the only viewpoint is all praise be to Green Day and everyone who criticises them is automatically wrong, then we have a problem. Or you know, THIS ^ Green Day fansite or not, being a blind fanboy isn't a good idea for anyone. My issue isn't with people being upset with Brandon, it's HOW they reacted to him apologizing for something he said years ago. Hell, it was only Brandon that said anything, but this immediately turned into a shittalking contest on the group as a whole. But I'm done here, at least on this discussion. I really enjoyed Hot Fuss and so far Sams Town is good too. I kinda feel bad for being narrow minded before It's cool, happens to everyone. I ignored MSI for a long time because some high schoolers I hated worshipped them. Turned out MSI kicks ass. Also, don't expect much more of the Hot Fuss sound to creep in the rest of the albums >.> I can only think of a few tracks that sound similar. It's all great, but I do sort of wish they would bring in that tone a bit more. It was much more agressive.
The Forgotten Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I guess most songs on the trilogy are intentionally stupid thennn LOL for UNO and DOS, yes.

I do have an issue with The Killers musically though. They really don't know how to end a song properly. They always seem to try to go for a big fancy ending and it just sounds... wrong. I can understand that on a few tracks. Especially on Day and Age, they just couldn't figure out how to end the fucking songs!! In their defense, there are some songs on there that I love and can see how ending it would be a big deal for them, as the end to a song can ruin it entirely. Do you have one in mind in particular?

AfterShock Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 What. You act as if everyone should praise The Killers. We are the GREEN DAY COMMUNITY and not a THE KILLERS COMMUNITY and everyone has their own opinion on the topic. See my last post, I don't see how that is an excuse for just bashing things senselessly. He's making amends - I don't understand why now everyone is trying to bash him and his band all over again. We like the Killers in addition to Green Day, so some of us are going to stand up for another band we like instead of just sitting here and watching all of you call him a douchebag who is a shitty songwriter (whereas we could take millions of BJA's lyrics and completely destroy them - half the trilogy is pretty poorly written). There's a difference between having different opinions and just hating for no reason. But, like you said, everyone has a different opinion so I guess we could just be seeing this in different ways. Essentially my point is, THIS ENTIRE THREAD IS A HUGE WASTE OF TIME. Someone should close it before more butthurt happens
Khal Drogo Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 The Killers kick ass, and I love Green Day as well. I definitely understood where Brandon was coming from all those years ago, but I am happy to see the old conflict be definitively put to rest
Fuzz Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I never understood where he was coming from, and I thought he was being ridiculous. A band suggested America wasn't the greatest country on earth? BLASPHEMY! That said, I like the Killers, it's pretty obvious this really simple line was a way of trying to move on from it.
Mar Posted June 24, 2013 Author Posted June 24, 2013 Goddamn I think TK may be the most hated band on here If I could just provide a little more context: When Brandon said this stuff about Billie/the band, he was talking shit about EVERYBODY. Kurt Cobain, Fall Out Boy, The Fray, The Bravery, even people he idolizes like Morrissey. He was truly just trying to stir shit because he was a young, naive kid (he was 23/24 when Hot Fuss hit) and felt he needed to puff himself and his band up. And we all know Billie and anyone else in the band has never said or done any similarly stupid stuff like Brandon did. Seriously, though, The Killers and Brandon are totally different now than they were in 2005. Brandon has definitely been humbled by success and failure in equal measure. I know I'm biased because I do love TK so much, but I think that's why I believe Brandon is sorry and is seeking forgiveness. He has become more of a family man/rooted in his faith, and I think with that, he's grown up and seen that there was no reason to say this kind of stuff because shitting on other artists isn't gonna help your bottom line and it's just gonna make you seem petty. Whether you like TK now, whether you did like them back in the day but don't anymore (seriously, though, guys, Battle Born is wonderful; if you hated Day & Age you'll probably like this more) or you always hated them, that's irrelevant. This song, yes, it was about talking about how The Killers are joining such an esteemed club (Wembley sellouts) and you could say there's ego in them saying how they are great because they're joining great company. But that's exactly what Brandon's saying ... they are joining great company. He's trying to put aside the dumb things he said in the past and say, hey, both The Killers and Green Day have done pretty well for themselves and it didn't matter what I said. OK, I'll shut up. I just have a lot of feelings about both bands and I wish they could bake a cake full of rainbows and smiles together!
WhiteTim Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Stuff like this just highlights the hypocrisy that GD fans has Brandon Flowers makes a remark that really isnt even that bad or horrible and its all fuck Brandons Ill never listen to The Killers etc Billie says on stage i hope steve jobs dies which is ALOT worse thing to say than what Brandon said and theres no fuck Billie ill never listen to Green Day etc

Green Day has never done anything wrong and are the deepest people on the planet in every moment of their lives! When Tre made that joke in bullet about counting to four he was ACTUALLY making a grand statement about the music industry and how far away they've gotten from the main point in yeah! Sarcasm I still think that what Brandon said had some merit, but it was such a minor thing so long ago and half the people in this thread didn't even know about it until he apologized for it. I just don't get it. I just don't get it. . Exactly It's like I said some people are more patriotic than others and some people who may go to a GD show may not know what Billie meant in the song or the bantar on stage my sister in law likes GD (the songs on the radio) but she couldn't tell u that WMUWSE is about Billie's dad some people dont give a fuck about songs meanings etc...
