Juul Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Would be awesome if they did this last week at the Pinkpop Festival, they both played there as headliners.
WhiteTim Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 I know this horse has been dead a long time, but to be fair I think Brandon Flowers was 100% correct in saying that when Billie sang "mindfuck America" around the world in 2004, most of the crowd was singing along just to have the satisfaction of shouting "Fuck America!" Obviously that wasn't Billie's true meaning behind the song, but he definitely allowed that to happen. Of course, nothing wrong with that... but everytime I watch BIAB, when the crowd says mindfuck America, I always wonder how many of them are really just focusing on the fuck America part. Man if I could like this a thousand times...
GreenRanger Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 I thought it was pretty cool. I've never been pissed at Brandon Flowers or any such thing for what he said because he was talking about American Idiot. It's a charged album, of course people are going to disagree with it and find fault in it because if they didn't then it wasn't very effective now wasn't it? But yeah, I like this song. It's nice to hear a band pay tribute to not only their heroes and influences, but their contemporaries as well. I have a lot of respect for them doing this in the most vocal way a band could: in their actual music.
WhiteTim Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Would be awesome if they did this last week at the Pinkpop Festival, they both played there as headliners. But itd make no sense as the song is a tribute to playing at Wembley
mylilPWNy Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 I don't really care about what they think about Green Day. The only thing that pissed me off about that was that what he said was quite ignorant, and he used his little remark to plug his album right after. Cheap. I used to like their music though, ya know... before they stated to suck. Haha, and I consider that to be once Day & Age came out.
Annie, get your gun Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 When I read the title I thought a group of killers sang a song that mentioned Green Day but that would be stupid I don't care the problems they may have had... it wasn't that bad after all; like what happened with Radiohead I can't watch the video, but it was a nice thing to do if they or he apologized (and there wasn't no secret meaning behind it ) I'm actually more interested in, you know, what would Green Day say about it
AfterShock Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 So much unnecessary Killers hate - can't tell if a lot of you guys are hating on them just because they disagreed with Green Day or if you actually don't like them. Let's clear something up - I'm pretty sure (correct me if I'm wrong) that Brandon was upset about Bullet In A Bible, NOT American Idiot. Specifically the parts when he was saying things like "sing so loud that every redneck in America can hear you!" or whatever. He was irritated that he was going overseas and saying things like that about his own country - which I think is a justifiable reason to be upset. If you know the Killers, you know that they're a pretty American group of guys (see: Sam's Town), so I don't get why it's THAT bad that he was offended at some of the things Billie did in BIAB. If you don't like their music, that's fine, but I feel like some of you are being a bit harsh simply because "OMGZ HE SAID BAD THINGZ ABOUT BILLIE JOEEEE I HATE HIMMMMM." He's coming out and saying that he's changed (whether he has or not is a different story, but that's not for us to say) so I think y'all ought to let up on him a little bit. And yes, I am a Killers fan, but even if I wasn't I'd think this is a tad ridiculous.
JackInABox86 Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Why are Green Day fans getting so insulted over something Brandon Flowers said? You're not Green Day, you didn't produce any of Green Day's music, so suck up and stop being offended over something that's not even about you.
Florence Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Why are Green Day fans getting so insulted over something Brandon Flowers said? You're not Green Day, you didn't produce any of Green Day's music, so suck up and stop being offended over something that's not even about you. Because we are fans and we have a right to be offended?
Eva Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 "are we human, or are we dancers?" soooooo deep. Or my personal favourite: "somebody told me, that you had a boyfriend, that looked like a girlfriend..." Pfft... Oh yes, because "I like your BM-excellent tits with a tattoo of a pig sniffing glue" are so deep and emotional. I cry every time I hear it. Oh my God, it just came on my iTunes. Someone go get me a tissue. Why are Green Day fans getting so insulted over something Brandon Flowers said? You're not Green Day, you didn't produce any of Green Day's music, so suck up and stop being offended over something that's not even about you. Especially since he said it almost seven years ago and apologized for it. I mean, I know we're a dedicated fanbase, but really y'all? This thread is about Flowers apologizing and everyone's bashing him and his band? No wonder he said he didn't like us. Damn.
LisaBJA Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 I really want to know if Green Day heard this song? and what they think or say about it?
WhiteTim Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Some people are very patriotic and you see a band in another country escp an american band saying stuff that comes off as anti american and having the crowd sing and or repeat it it may upset/piss them off I had a neighbor who was a marine fought overseas and now missing a leg after a bomb exploded was a huge GD fan til he saw BIAB But Brandon apologized no big deal really everyone is entitled to their opinions
musso_kn Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Oh yes, because "I like your BM-excellent tits with a tattoo of a pig sniffing glue" are so deep and emotional. I cry every time I hear it. I wouldn't say Troublemaker is a great representation of Green Day's lyrics. I've heard enough of the Killers to derive the opinion that Brandon Flowers is no great poet, and a lot of their songs do contain the same drivel found in Human and that girlfriend song. EDIT: I hate The Killers, and have done since Human fell victim to radio overkill. His attitude towards Green Day has absolutely NOTHING to do with how much I dislike them. Hell, if Brandon Flowers started a Menage a Trois with Billie Joe and Adrienne, it wouldn't make me hate their abysmal music any less.
November's Storms Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Why are Green Day fans getting so insulted over something Brandon Flowers said? You're not Green Day, you didn't produce any of Green Day's music, so suck up and stop being offended over something that's not even about you. So you've never had an opinion or feelings about an issue not directly related to you?
belinda jane Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 awww bflo, you sassy mother fucker. this makes me so happy because the killers are actually one of my favourite bands.
J&TheNight Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Because we are fans and we have a right to be offended? Of course. Be offended another excellent musician gave some criticism about a group about 7 years ago because it in every way directly affects you and your families and you should definitely get outside with some signs and picket the fuck out of The Killers now. #sarcasm I wouldn't say Troublemaker is a great representation of Green Day's lyrics. Woah woah woah. Not a poet? You CLEARLY have not heard even a handful of songs with an open mind from this group. Poet?! Fuck, Brandon is definitely a poet. IF you can get behind Billies very simplistic lyrics,(which are fantastic for that factor) and proclaim those to be deep and thoughtful than Brandon is nothing short of a poet. Man, stop being a fanboy and stop being a hater. This literally doesn't affect you at all and all you're doing is acting like a ridiculous fanboy "MY favorite band is better than YOUR favorite band because they can't write lyrics and they said something about Billie and FUCK YOUR FAVORITE BAND!" That's all I'm hearing from everyone on this thread just making cheap shots at Brandon and it's pathetic. So you've never had an opinion or feelings about an issue not directly related to you? Holding an opinion is one thing, but most people on here are just taking it as a personal attack on their souls from the Killers and using this thread as a safe place to make really shitty arguments to compare groups. But yeah, getting overly offended because a group said one negative things, which was a fair thing to say, against another group about 7 years ago is pretty petty.
Hermione Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 This amuses me a lot for some reason . Good on them! Cool that they're not ones to hold a grudge. I know this horse has been dead a long time, but to be fair I think Brandon Flowers was 100% correct in saying that when Billie sang "mindfuck America" around the world in 2004, most of the crowd was singing along just to have the satisfaction of shouting "Fuck America!" Of course, nothing wrong with that... but everytime I watch BIAB, when the crowd says mindfuck America, I always wonder how many of them are really just focusing on the fuck America part. The thing that annoyed me was that it was as if he assumed that non-Americans aren't capable of grasping the subtlety in the lyrics at all. Just because we're not American it doesn't mean we don't get what he really means. I think in reality the percentage of people who think it just means "fuck America" and don't understand it any further than that probably isn't much different in the rest of the world than it is in America, especially among Green Day fans. I don't think many people singing it at Green Day shows around the world were doing it with hatred of America in mind as he implied - for most people it's just a good song to rock out to!
JackInABox86 Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Lol because you're butthurt over something that's not even related to you. So what you love Green Day, doesn't mean you have to get offended because someone else doesn't (or didn't) like them. Seriously it's what a child would do.
Asa. Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I can forgive you now, Brandon Flowers. Now I'm gonna go listen to the Killers because I never really gave them a chance after I heard what he said about Green Day.

Now I'm gonna go listen to the Killers because I never really gave them a chance after I heard what he said about Green Day. Start with Hot Fuss and just go in order from there. Theres a very distinctive change in style that's fun to hear from album to album.
belinda jane Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Start with Hot Fuss and just go in order from there. Theres a very distinctive change in style that's fun to hear from album to album. SAM'S TOWN IS THE BEST. SAM'S TOWWNNNNN.
The Forgotten Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Oh yes, because "I like your BM-excellent tits with a tattoo of a pig sniffing glue" are so deep and emotional. I cry every time I hear it. Again, apples and oranges. Two different styles of songs. "Are we human" is meant to be meaningful and deep. Troublemaker is intentionally silly. Are we going to start comparing Weird Al' to Frank Sinatra?
J&TheNight Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 SAM'S TOWN IS THE BEST. SAM'S TOWWNNNNN. I can't disagree entirely. Sam's Town kicks some major ass, all the way through. Of course, with each album I'm always reallly turned off by the group until I go in order of the albums and by the end I LOVE the newest album XD I did it with Day and Age and Battle Born. I couldn't enjoy day and age until I saw the Live at Royal Albert Hall DVD and since I've loved the record to pieces. I saw them live in December for Battle born and it really amped up an already stellar album. Again, apples and oranges. Two different styles of songs. "Are we human" is meant to be meaningful and deep. Troublemaker is intentionally silly. Are we going to start comparing Weird Al' to Frank Sinatra? You just stated why you have no argument in that comment. Billie and Brandon write lyrics ENTIRELY differently. BJA is much more blunt and obvious with his lyrics, whereas Brandon is nearly always being very deep and metaphorical with his lines. So yeah, you might as well compare Weird Al and Frank Sinatra if you're going to compare Billie's lyrics to Brandon's considering how they write lyrics entirely different. For fans of a band that gets a lot of shit said about it (green day) people on this forum sure know how to return that favor.

I stated that The Killers often writes lyrics they pass off as "deep"... and then people started comparing them the Green Day. All you just did is support my argument
justcause Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 The thing that annoyed me was that it was as if he assumed that non-Americans aren't capable of grasping the subtlety in the lyrics at all. The irony of it is that there was huge 'fuck America' sentiment at the time, courtesy of the Bush regime, and American Idiot actually countered it by giving voice to a whole section of the populace who didn't agree with that regime and felt disenfranchised by it. I fucking wanted to hear that voice, blasting thru the wall of propaganda, and I was glad to hear it when it came.
