IsaGreenDay Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I wish they could have added at least a few scenes of Mike and Tré, even if they didn't have the same role as Billie or the rest of the musical cast, I'm pretty sure they were somehow important to make everything happen.
Heather. Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I wish they could have added at least a few scenes of Mike and Tré, even if they didn't have the same role as Billie or the rest of the musical cast, I'm pretty sure they were somehow important to make everything happen. They each got a closeup during the meeting, and Billie did make a point of saying that the rock opera was "Mike Dirnt's idea" which was nice.
Tubbie Head Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Thank you so much Heather for that review, still haven't read it all, but I will!! This sounds like something I would love love to see. Hope they manage to release the DVD!
lizziebix Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Heather, you are AWESOME! And Robin, you too. And Tanya (although I don't think she posted in here - yet?!!). Thank you all for your reviews and reports on the movie and the Q&A. It's always so hard to not be from where cool stuff is happening. You've given me enough info though to feel included in the event.
WestboundSign! Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Here is EVERY LAST FUCKING THING I CAN REMEMBER AT THIS TIME. ENJOY: If I had to sum up the film in one sentence: Michael and Billie say cute and funny soundbites, and then you cut to footage of Adrienne crying In the Q&A with the director/producer: Producer said *not exact words*: "I just want to say that I've met a lot of rock stars and stars in general over the years, and they're not always what you would hope they would be. But with Billie Joe, what you see is what you get. He's the most real, honest, giving person. So I just want to let you guys know as fans that, you're rooting for the right guy. Everything that you dream in your head that you hope Billie Joe is, he is that. He's everything you think and want him to be." - Wish there had been more footage of Billie in rehearsals for St. Jimmy, but there were some beautiful intense shots of him trying to act all stoic and silent and convince himself not to say anything and just act intense, which he said was hard for him because he's usually allowed to just go crazy and scream. - There were pictures of him as naked cowboy on the stage, as a nurse, and also him dressed in what looked like some kind of sexy black and red lingerie dress, playing drums - Also some hilarious footage of him just jumping rope before the show. Very impressive, continuous flow there. - Billie randomly talking about how Facebook scares him because he wants to protect his family's privacy. - Billie mentioned how families really do have to make a tough choice when they're going to see a Broadway show, if they want to challenge themselves by seeing a show with the "cold reality" of American Idiot or some kind of fairy tale that would be more enjoyable for them. - Billie spoke very emotionally about how after getting famous, he hasn't had a lot of close friends or community (like he had at Gilman) because in the rock world it's very competitive and there isn't really that beautiful camaraderie that he finally discovered on Broadway. He said he didn't even realize how much had missed and longed to be a part of such genuine human relationships and friendships again, and you get the impression that this meant more to him than anything else in his career has. - He mentions a time when he threw Twizzlers at the crowd and one of the producers basically told him not to do that again because it's distracting and on Broadway you don't do shit like that He also mentioned a time where he brought whiskey on stage and Michael had to tell him, no, don't bring whiskey on stage - There was footage of some kind of cast + Billie + impromptu Foxboro Hot Tubs ish party in Oakland where Billie talks about how Adrienne brought a photo booth and he talks about how things got sexy in there for everyone, and there was a super fast montage with lots of pics of the cast, Billie, and 80 orgying it up and drinking lol. Also a shot of Mike and Britt. We've seen some of these photos before floating around online but there were a ton more. - During the Q&A the producer mentioned the uniqueness of the Idiot family and how he's never seen a broadway cast with such a strong connection, which he attributed to the fact that 90% of the young cast members had been Green Day fans beforehand and so having Billie take on almost a fatherly role/mentoring them was a uniquely incredible experience for them. - Producer mentioned Billie playing softball with the cast and how Adrienne would show up with milk and cookies - Speaking of Adrienne, she was in the background of almost every rehearsal/Billie walking anywhere/doing anything There was also a lot of cute moments of her cuddling Jakob in the audience at various stages of the production. - A nice proud moment where Ollie was clapping for her son's Broadway debut! - A quote from Billie something like: "The set looks really simple. People think simple is easy but, Elenore Rigby is a simple song, but I'd like to see you fucking do it." - Room pretty much flipped a shit because the screen accidentally went to white static the very moment Billie came out as St. Jimmy on stage Oooops. Oh well, we'll see it again. - Cool footage of the cast on stage intertwined with the Grammys. - They showed Billie producing the cast album in the studio and a lot of sweet moments with him trying to draw the perfect voice out of Rebecca by saying "do it one more time" a about thirty times He tried really hard to get them comfortable because you could tell the cast was really nervous to be recording with Green Day for the first time, especially because this was fairly early in the process of their involvement. - The footage of Billie as a kid: He sang a song from A Little Night Music and also "Kids" from Bye Bye Birdie. He was SUPER cute and during Kids he was wearing overalls and an old fashioned hat, as if he was actually in the play! Classic. - Michael Mayer was HILARIOUS and he also sang a bit which was sometimes impressive and sometimes just funny. It was great to laugh at everything he did and said while he was sitting a few seats away from me - A scene where Tom Kitt is playing piano and Billie and Michael and he are trying to sing "Give my regards to broadway" but they don't know any of the lyrics, so Billie is like "I have to google this now" and whips out his phone. - Tom Kitt singing and arranging on piano in an impressive falsetto voice. - Tom Kitt playing WMUWSE on piano and complimenting Billie how it reminded him of A Chorus Line. Billie talks about how having his songs in this musical really gave him a validation as a songwriter of melodies that he never felt he got from anywhere else [my reading into that: yeah, he's underappreciated for his melodies because of the nature of his music] - Film used a lot of footage from Bullet in a Bible including some of the interviews from it. - There was a TRULY touching moment shown from opening night where one of the actors, maybe someone else can remember his name (he wasn't one of the principals) is sitting on the stairs backstage with tears in his eyes because his dream that "I've been working toward for 30 years" of being on Broadway was about the come true. It was really moving to see how much this meant to the cast, beyond what it went for Billie. You could see just how much heart and work they put into every moment of prep. - Billie Michael and co. WILL be doing a new musical together ! - Not a peep out of Mike or Tre. - Billie mentions how his own journey to NYC kind of mirrored the story of the show, but he referred to "doing it right this time" which I understood to mean he was reflecting on when he went to NYC to WRITE American Idiot and got caught up in a lot of self-destructive habits, and how it wasn't a healthy experience, and how now being on Broadway and being healthy while there was a chance for him to redeem his previous journey to NYC. - It was cute when everyone in the room clapped a bit when Adrienne first came on screen, and she was the last person thanked in the credits. Everyone loves that woman, good Lord. (Myself included) - REALLY sweet moment when the cast was singing Last Night on Earth and Adrienne is smiling like I've never seen before and cries and taps Billie on the shoulder and he turns around and they have this moment and super cute kiss. - Michael didn't tell Billie what song he was about to listen to that had totally different arrangements, and was like "you'll know it when you hear them sing" and there was a good five seconds where the cast was humming and Billie looked so totally lost and confused and then they say "I text a postcard..." and you see him nod like a little boy who finally understands what the hell is going on. - Adrienne laughing and crying at everything. Q&A: - Woman in charge clearly wasn't a Green Day fan as she didn't know Mike or Tre's names and she couldn't remember the name of the "Saint" that Billie played in the show LMAO. However she was AMAZED by the fact that somehow we all sold out the tickets before they were even put on sale And she said that Lincoln Center has never experienced something like that before which is amazing Here's my shitty pic with Michael Mayer http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/4369/hcek.jpg It was such a lovely evening! The film was very satisfying. Not perfect, but very satisfying. Questions welcome. ALSO: Haven't had the chance to read GDA yet... did they mention the NEWS that Billie, Michael, and co. ARE PLANNING TO DO ANOTHER BROADWAY MUSICAL TOGETHER DEFINITELY? BECAUSE THEY SAID IT WILL HAPPEN SOME DAY, LIKE NOT JUST A DREAM, IT WILL DAMNIT. Thank you SO much for all the information! This sounds like a great movie, I now absolutely can't wait to watch it!
Iva Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Countries that may have it on theaters: -US -UK -Japan -Canada -Germany So, yeah, I guess I'll have to travel to Germany to see it. O_O ... Thank you. I loved, loved the first bit, as it reminds me of what I thought to myself earlier this month. The only thing that confused me about this was orgying it up...? Ummm...?
TessTheGreatt Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I think the best thing that Q&A lady said was referring to St.Jimmy as "that evil saint guy"

Ya know those photo booth pics with Billie and 80 and Theo and their tongues out on each other's faces with some alcohol involved Not a real orgy (Well, who knows...) I think the best thing that Q&A lady said was referring to St.Jimmy as "that evil saint guy" I know I was cracking up when she was like "That saint he played...."

jetsrule128 Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 How was it? I have been hearing mixed reviews. That they had talent it just wasn't what people were expecting. If you don't want to post about it you can message me on Facebook Megan.
HaushinkaSins Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 it was good, ive been there before for stuff like this so i knew what to expect. i think majority of people expected like a literal party or the cast to sing only green day songs. but the 54 below is like... the best way to explain it is if you watch glee its kinda like the whole college scene when rachel goes up to sing 'give your heart a break' haha. i know, shit example, but its the only way to describe it. its very artsy and theater
jetsrule128 Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 few more videos from the afterparty http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33yvSaOfr7c http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCZvrpcdxD8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzv3B6avJgI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alPz5pJkH9Y
