Todd Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Y'know how they played Cigarettes and Valentines for 6 shows in a row for AaF and then never played it again? Yeah. This again

HARVESTER Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 hmm, what does snoop dog has to do with this? Notice the song title... and then go look at the lyrics. It's a conspiracy theory... but I don't want to post it.
Tubbie Head Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Notice the song title... and then go look at the lyrics. It's a conspiracy theory... but I don't want to post it. I'm slow, I still don't get it
Hermione Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Green Day playing all of Dookie is pretty epic, but I kinda hope they don't play it on the entire European leg of the 99 Revolutions tour... Next week at Rock im Park will be my first GD concert ever and I'd rather have a normal setlist than all of Dookie. But that's just me. And judging from the Vienna thread, apparently the Dookie thing was spontaneous this time. Apparently after Stray Heart Billie was like "Fuck this", talked with Mike and Tré and someone got them a new setlist. But I would shit my pants if they played American Idiot in its entirety live... I understand that, the first time I saw them I wanted to make sure I got to see a normal setlist so much I deliberately bought tickets for the first night of two they were playing at the same venue in case they decided to do something special on the second . But don't feel too bad if they do all of Dookie. You'll get other chances to see them play a normal show in the future, and when that time comes you'll be glad you've got to see more than one different type of show. But yeah, since it seems like the second time wasn't even planned you've probably got quite a good chance of seeing a traditional show anyway. I was coming to terms with the fact that I can't go to the London show on Saturday, until I saw this. So pissed I'm going to miss this, but so awesome they are doing it! Great to hear some of those rare songs live. Lol same here. maybe they're playing dookie in Europe now because theyre gonna do a 20 anniversary US tour next year and won't be back in Europe Welcome to GDC........but don't say such terrible things
San Miguel Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 I'd love it if they played Dookie front to back at the Emirates on Saturday, but then I've seen the regular set list twice this year already. If they did Insomniac front to back I would go nuts!
Cath Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 I'd love it if they played Dookie front to back at the Emirates on Saturday, but then I've seen the regular set list twice this year already. If they did Insomniac front to back I would go nuts! they won't play Insomniac. there's a reason why they played Dookie
csalamy95 Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Welcome to GDC........but don't say such terrible things thanks! and being from the US Id be stoked haha
Dillwad Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 they played sassafras roots in 1997, there is truthful evidence for that. I believe you. But I bet Billie Joe doesn't remember it, which is understandable seeing how it has been 16 years and hundreds of shows later.
Todd Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 I believe you. But I bet Billie Joe doesn't remember it, which is understandable seeing how it has been 16 years and hundreds of shows later. And it was a secret show, not a big show like Fillmore wasand it was 1997, so he was probably drunk
ThranaM Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 They played all of Dookie!?? (At least I tried Tman)
Todd Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 They played all of Dookie!?? (At least I tried Tman) Yeah, like 6 times. Where have you been all of 2013?
Spike Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Yeah, like 6 times. Where have you been all of 2013? They played it in full in the autumn of '93 too. Everyone seems to overlook that.
The Disappearing Boy Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 They played it in full in the autumn of '93 too. Everyone seems to overlook that. Do you know what date?
Spike Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Do you know what date? September-October. I was kidding, I was referring to them playing it in the studio while recording the album
The Disappearing Boy Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 September-October. I was kidding, I was referring to them playing it in the studio while recording the album haha I was gonna say!
Todd Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 They played it in full in the autumn of '93 too. Everyone seems to overlook that. Nah, they don't record the album all at once in order. I'm sure they had many recording sessionsfor Dookie
Spike Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Nah, they don't record the album all at once in order. I'm sure they had many recording sessionsfor Dookie I know, I was joking. I read in a SoundOnSound interview with the engineer that the actual recording process took place over two weeks.
The Disappearing Boy Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 I remember hearing (reading?) that it was done very quickly, and I think that all the songs were completely written and finished before they went into the studio. But I think that recording times were pretty damn quick for all their early albums, so I guess they were pretty used to it by that time!

But I think that recording times were pretty damn quick for all their early albums, so I guess they were pretty used to it by that time! Yep! There's a really good article about the recording process here, and here's a quote from it: “Everything was already written, all we had to do was play it,” Billie Joe Armstrong would later recall about the Dookie sessions, while Neill King, who engineered the record, confirms this: “The guys had been performing many of the songs live, so they were very familiar with them when they entered the studio and they had supreme confidence in them. They knew they were hot shit, they knew the material was terrific, and it was just a case of us getting it right.”
