Green Day's Next Album

I still enjoy most of the trilogy but the reverb is a little overbearing like why not just record it like their 90's albums. Billie said he wanted to go lo-fi since 21CB was released. But I get why the trilogy didn't turn out that way, they tried to go backwards but their style and billies vocals just aren't the same anymore. He is smaller and has a higher voice now. If they just did UNO as a compilation, DOS as the FHT, and TRE as is as green day, I think the they would be looked on more favorably. Tre is that connection of old and new that could have been their sound if AI and 21CB never were. It is like the sequel to Cigarettes and Valentines.

Moving forward, I think they will mix 21CB with songs like Lazy Bones and Baby Eyes and go lo-fi. Get that aggression back and a new sound like they failed to do on Uno. I don't think it will be full blown rock opera, but it could be epic along the lines of Nimrod, Warning or TRE. I hope its less poppy and more mature than anything they've ever done. They have to keep evolving to keep going, the trilogy just gets a little old sometimes by rehashing old sounds and chord progressions. I am sure they will do better sales wise next time around, and if not they may be out of Warner and on adeline even tho they are kinda the same. The band has come up big with a lot of pressure before and I would't be surprised if it happened again.

Soda Pop Curtis is Rusty James original title

They wouldnt ever release DUI they seem to regret recording it

I know both of those things. With Soda Pop Curtis I was thinking maybe an older version of the song, like a demo version. And DUI will probably never get released in any shape or form.

I hope we get to hear unreleased songs from the trilogy. There are 37 songs on the entire trilogy so they had to have narrowed it down from something. In fact, in their YouTube updates leading up to the release of UNO, you can see a song board in the background. I hope we get to hear a studio recording of Dreamcatcher

I wouldn't say no to another Punk Rock Opera, if there was ideas for one. That being said, if I remember correctly, Billie has already started penning new stuff but obviously, they will take their time with it due to recent complications. Expect a new album come 2016 at least.

Where they're going next is anyone's guess. I think there's a chance for just one more studio album and will call it a day. That's my guess and frankly, I wouldn't mind that.

That's the most horrific thing I've heard on this site yet, and sometimes I parouse the unpopular opinions thread. Who seriously wants Green Day to stop. Sometimes I seriously lose hope in GD's fans... :ermm:

The Trilogy made me realise how unpredictable they are, and I love that.

It's so different from AI and 21CB because it's 'simpler', like non-rock opera.

Which is good because they're old stuff was more like that..but then again it is very different from the older stuff as its more 'furnished' (if that makes sense ).

Also I hear alot of rock and roll influence in the Trilogy, moreso than their other stuff.

Maybe if they listen to different music they'll come out with something completly different and new  (personally, when I listen to different music it comes out in what I make up on guitar).

I'd also prefer it if they didn't put any story in atall, I'd prefer just a mix of songs like on their older albums.

Anyway I think they should do something catchy as hell like the songs off International Superhits! ( ) But at the end of the day they could do anything.

I hate to sound cliche. but I would love if they went back to their 90's sound on the next record.

They always come out with something super catchy. But after everything that happened recently, I'm pretty sure Billie Joe will write a deep song about his experiences in rehab.

They kinda did on UNO. Billie Joe even said it himself. UNO is Dookie part 2, DOS is the Foxboro Hot Tubs, and TRE is a a mix of American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown.

personally I think 2013/2014 they will be busy with a tour so cant see them thinking of a new album, although billie said he has got a lot of songs wrote up since being in rehab although in 2014 I think they will be busy doing something to celebrate the 20th year since dookie release and the 10th year since American idiots release

a live album with yesterday's Dookie performance

That's a low expectation

I hope we won"t have a crappy new greatest hits release with only 2 or 3 new songs.

This is wishful thinking, but I'm gonna estimate their next album will be released early 2015.

Remember, Shenanigans also came out around Intl SH

That's not crazy - Dookie to Insomniac was a very short wait

yes, but that was early Green Day. There's been quite large gaps inbetween the later albums, plus they might take their time because we already got 37 new songs

I really want a studio version of Olivia.

And Dreamcatcher

I remember everyone (including myself) kept saying this about "Drama Queen." We finally got it last year and now not many people like it. I find it funny. I think Olivia would be the same. When I saw it live in Denver, it wasn't that good. Catchy, but nothing to write home about (other than it being unreleased). Maybe I was just spoiled by "Cigarettes and Valentines" :P

I first heard Stay the Night 3 years ago in a YouTube video of a soundcheck for one of their shows in Germany.

Thanks for twisting my words...you clearly missed the point. What I said was not that I want it to end, it's that I can accept it ending. Frankly, if you're a fan of anything at all, you will know that nothing good lasts forever, and you need to come to terms with that. There might be more albums, compilations, the odd cover and tours, because I can see Green Day playing into their 50's, hell maybe even at 60, but after last year is anybody's guess, so I won't be surprised if they just call it a day after the next one. Yes, we will be sad when they truly pack it in, even me, but at least I can understand why it has to end, if it does. It's just something that's inevitable, but we will always have the music, and that's what we have to remember.

You also have to remember they have to release a certain number of albums with Reprise (as per their contract), I don't know what that number is but frankly I won't be surprised if the next album is the last Reprise-contracted one; which I guess won't mean the very last Green Day album, but it could give an idea that it could very well be.

Also, judging by your post count and frequency on this site as a member; you're new here. What I've said is pretty much holy compared to some shit people can come up with on here.

Considering all that the band's gone through in the past year, it'll probably be punk as fuck.

Pop Punk songs will do it for more.

I know this isn't exactly what the thread is about, but I hope they release a live album like Awesome as F**k in the next year or so.

And maybe a live Dookie album, but that's just wishful thinking.

I hope they go back to some of the more mature-ish music from AI and 21CB; the angsty stuff just doesn't work as well anymore IMO. Some of the songs on Uno and Dos just felt forced, like they were trying to prove that they still had that punk edge or something. Idk, maybe that's just me, but I think they should embrace the more grandiose arena rock anthem-type music and evolve more in that area. (I did love most of the trilogy, to be clear)

I would love a full club show as opposed to the usual arena
