Green Day's Next Album

In case y'all missed it, on the BBC radio interview Billie did for Foreverly, he said Green Day are doing "nothing" right now and don't have any plans. He said after Australia they're going to take a break and he's focusing on 'other things' and different projects right now. But he said it's good because when they're ready to go back into the studio, their batteries will be recharged.

I'm excited nevertheless because he's clearly in a productive creative mood, it just might not be with Green Day right now. I'm sure he's writing songs, but where and how they're distributed will be unpredictable.

Wow I missed that interview can I find it somewhere ??

I'm glad they want to take their time and not to jump into work again and again... even if I hoped so hard a return on the road next year so I could FINALLY get a chance to see them !

Did he actually say go back into the studio - I could understand it - I thought he said when we get back into the GD ?? our batteries will be recharged.

GD should stop making music. if Billy said the only way for someone to leave GD was in a coffin then all 4 members could commit mass suicide

I cant tell if you're joking or...

Check the foreverly thread ;)

I don't think he said studio specifically, I just meant in general that's what it would mean. There are no studio plans right now.

Sounds like another really long time with the band doing nothing. I thought they were on a break right now, if Billie doesn't think the break has started yet then it's going to be REALLY long I think. Hopefully not as long as the wait between AI and 21CB.

I wasn't a fan back then, and I hope I never have to experience that lol.

Ahh, that wait was brutal... Really hope it's not that long, but I'm sure we'll get no shortage of GD related projects in the meantime.

The weird thing is that Billie and the band didn't consider that a "break." Whenever interviewers asked them about "all the time off" and wait time between 2004 and 2009 album releases, they really said there was hardly a break at all, it just took a while to make, but they were constantly working.

For all the people saying how it takes a long time to write good songs, but many consider AI to be their best album, and it was written in under a year. Don't believe me? Cigarettes and valentines was set to be released in 2003. Not that I want new green day this soon. It would be cool, but the trilogy is my favorite album(s) that they've made

A good song can be written in under an hour. If you're in a band like Green Day, and your entire life revolves around music, you could easily write 20+ songs a week. Some of the biggest problems with the Trilogy are the production and arrangements - if they were top-notch, some of the more questionable songs could be a lot better. I think a lot of us can agree that American Idiot is one of their best songs, but there's really not a lot of difference between that and stuff on Kerplunk. At the end of the day they could take a week or a decade to put a new album together and it could be great or terrible either way. Time spent ≠ quality, especially when you're as prolific a writer as Billie.

We're never getting an AI or Dookie-level album again. Maybe a Nimrod.

The same thing was said about Dookie after Warning came out. Then American Idiot happened. That's what I love about this band, no one has a clue what might happen next.

I'm glad they're gonna be taking time off to recharge. I reckon they probably needed it.

You're right, it's pretty exciting to think about really. I mean American Idiot came out a whole decade after Dookie...and it's a decade next year since American Idiot. Who knows what we'll get next time?

Definitely happy they're taking time off to recharge though. I'd much rather wait a couple of years longer and hear something truly great

I think the trilogy and billie going to rehab, taking a break and billie doing other projects will be the best thing for green day. When there ready they will have a huge comeback. I remember when I found out green day was going into the studio in February of 2012 I said to myself how could they top American idiot and 21st century breakdown, and they shut me up by making 3 albums. Even though the albums weren't this amazing thing I think the idea behind it was awesome. So give it time and I'm sure green day will have another suprise for us. If I had to guess I would say there next album will be out in 2017-2018. But then again like billie said in quatro they don't like taking breaks to long. So for all we know we could have an album in 2015.

I'm pretty sure this next album will be huge. Evne if I was disappointed with 21st CB and UDT, I think the next one will be really good.

I want it to be huge album. Getting them back into huge artists again like the American Idiot days. Although some people do hate on them because they are not Punk anymore. I hate that honestly, so many people can't deal with change.

The overwhelming odds is that Green Day will never have another album of Dookie/AI levels of success/fame ever again. Most bands can barely manage one of those albums. 2 is even rarer, and 3 only happens in special cases like the Beatles. Chances are we're looking at another Nimrod, with reasonable levels of success and maybe one breakout single.

At the end of the day, who really gives a damn if it's successful or not? I'm pretty sure they could never earn any money again and live off the interest. As long as the songs are good I don't care who buys it.

in my personal opinion we won't get another record until 2016 or 2017 as they are probably taking 2014 off and they may start working in 2015 but it'll take at least until 2016 to release it. I hope they go on tour again and play the kinda stuff that was on the setlist at dream force cuz that could be cool. oh and in terms of taking 2014 off, i only mean from new music. i think they may do a few shows for ai and dookie

I imagine the next album sounding like these set of songs musically

Viva la Gloria little girl

Restless heart syndrome (more of the outro)

Before the lobotomy

X kid

Brutal love

Blood sex and booze
