Malleus Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Gonna shit all over you guys and say something serious. I hope the next album has a lot more slower songs in the vein of Brutal Love and Drama Queen. Something refined and more mature sounding would be really nice at this point.
Akshat Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Then you can do a remix with the Kaiser Chiefs. That could be catastrophic

That is my worst nightmare. Green Day doing an album of ballads? A couple per album was bad enough.
Certified Nimrod Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 I want an entire album in the vein of Nightlife. Okay, I don't want that, but I'd definitely buy and listen to it
Akshat Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Just something different. I don't want them to try recreating their older records. Maybe something on the lines of Hard rock or progressive
Clean Cut Asshole Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Some guest appearances, heavier guitars, backing vocals that ARENT done by Billie, and I wouldn't mind having all the members sing on a few songs. This. It would be awesome to have Mike sing some really cool punk song, Tré do one in the vein of "Dominated Love Slave", then Jason can do a Pinhead Gunpowder-style song! Plus Billie needs to not sing so high-pitched, his vocals on the trilogy are annoying. And they need to have cool guest appearances, from someone like Dave Grohl or something!
Guest Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Nothing. Please, no more. If they could just quit and stop embarrassing themselves.
Malleus Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 That is my worst nightmare. Green Day doing an album of ballads? A couple per album was bad enough. I don't necessarily mean ballads but I think it's time Green Day tried to mature their sound a little bit and explore their musicianship and not just pound away on the chords anymore. I guess I'm just growing up haha.
Guest Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Norwegian death metal. Not sure if that joke is dead yet... dude
Hermione Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 What would you want to hear if Green Day released a new album?Hi, turns out there's already a thread for talking about Green Day's next album so I've merged your thread with it

I guess I'm just growing up haha. They don't need to slow down to explore their musicianship though. They just need to stop limiting themselves to generic song structures and just say fuck it. Brutal Love and DRB were steps in the right direction, but weren't executed to their full potential.
EatmyDookie Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 More punk sound to it, more serious lyrics, some collaborations with actually known artists that is not a garbage rap song, and released by 2016 or earlier. Hopefully they got every thing together now and after all this time off and the tour ending. They can go back in the studio Taking their time on the album would help out ALOT. In the trilogy they just jammed out songs right away and released them. Using a ton of their time wisely to make another hit song in the album or to increase sales to make them a very popular band again
jacknovella Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 I hope we know nothing about it until it's almost done...sounds like it will be that way anyway judging by the recent interview where Billie Joe said he'll never do an album and tell anyone again.

That's right, they don't need to slow down, I suppose I just sort of think that's the only way they're ever gonna fully mature. I feel like if they decide to go aggressive and fast on the next record it'll just feel stale and boring. An album full of X-Kid's and Brutal Love's is what they need to put out, imo.
Certified Nimrod Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Hi, turns out there's already a thread for talking about Green Day's next album so I've merged your thread with it Actually, this thread was different. It was abut what we wanted their next album to sound like. The other was about what we thought it would sound like.
Hermione Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Actually, this thread was different. It was abut what we wanted their next album to sound like. The other was about what we thought it would sound like. I think with the title of "Green Day's Next Album" it can cover both things. I'll add to the OP to say what would you like it to sound like as well, and you can all continue the discussion you were having as you were. I don't even know how I want it to sound, my favourite Green Day albums are my favourites for very different reasons and there's loads of different things they could do that would make me happy. I do have a soft spot for the more rock and roll sound of Uno Dos Tre and Foxboro Hot Tubs so more of that would be very welcome. Or something totally new that they've never tried before would be exciting. But they can go any direction they're inspired to go and it's very likely I'll be happy with the result going by past experience!

X-Kid isn't really that different to anything they did on 21stCB though. It's a simple 4 chord riff with a big chorus. Sure, it has great lyrics, but it's not groundbreaking. Brutal Love would have been, if they'd managed not to shamelessly lift the melody from another song. I'd love to see GD attempt something truly innovative.

Brutal Love would have been, if they'd managed not to shamelessly lift the melody from another song. What song?
Guest Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 What song? How have you not heard about this? Some song by Sam Cooke. It's even listed in the album credits for Tré.
The Disappearing Boy Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 I wouldn't call it shameless. They heard a melody, liked it, and used it in their song. Everything else is their own.
