tubbyfox Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 you forgot Give Me Novacaine/She's a Rebel, Extraordinary Girl/Letterbomb, See You Tonight/Fuck Time and also Viva La Gloria (Little Girl)/Restless Heart Syndrome but you can barely hear it on that one but Id say Brain Stew/Jaded I voted for Holiday/BOBD, but I must say I love See You Tonight/F**k Time. Gorgeous.
localinsomniac Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 The transitions on American Idiot - Holiday/BoBD, Are We the Waiting/St. Jimmy, Novacaine/She's a Rebel - hold a special place in my heart, the first one especially. I love the way they tie the feel and the album's concept together. It's an under-appreciated aspect of the record. You can argue that Novacaine into She's a Rebel isn't really a continuation or transition, and I guess you would be right. I count it because there's no breathing room between the songs whatsoever. The Offspring did that with the last two tracks on their most recent album, which has its moments. All that said- I couldn't not vote for Chump/Longview. The outro of the former is this crescendo culminating in complete chaos, and other words that start with 'C'; when it calms down and the dust settles, the rhythm of the toms in Longview is almost hypnotic. In a word, those 7 minutes together are perfect.
green day is Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Don't bother he ain't gonna budge I just hate this attitude that it's his thread and he's the only person that gets to decide what is and isn't a transitional track. Like, there are people who want to vote for Novacaine/She's a Rebel. If they don't count it as a transitional track, they're not gonna vote for it.
armatage Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Brain Stew/Jaded. I think it beats Holiday/BoBD. But maybe that's just me being a bigger fan of Insomniac than AI.
Todd Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 How am I the only vote for Uptight? Y'all don't have any musical tastes whatsoever. *runs out of the room crying like a little girl*
Cob Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Brain Stew/Jaded is the no brainer, but Jinx/Haushinka is one of my favorites because it caught me off guard the first time I listened to Nimrod. That and those two songs are absolute perfection.
DannyDirnt Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 I have to go with LOTAG/Murder City. That one's just a really good connection. Also Holiday/BoBD and Jinx/Hausinka.
Cob Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 She's a Rebel and Give Me Novocaine do belong on here buddy.
Flyingdonutz Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 Either Are we the waiting/st jimmy or Chump and Longview. Some special editions of A.I. have those two as one song, as well as EG and Letterbomb, but the latter provides the counter to that - those two don't overlap. Cause', y'know, Are We the Waiting and St Jimmy are so much different than Novacaine and She's a Rebel. They're literally the exact same. In Are We the Waiting, the whine of the pickups builds up until BAM, St Jimmy starts. The exact same thing happens in Novacaine to She's a Rebel. So from my point of view, either both of them are on there or none are.
HolyHandGrenade Posted May 30, 2013 Author Posted May 30, 2013 My Favorite is Give me Novacane/She's a Rebel. yeah, where's that in the poll?^^ EG when the guitar fades and Letterbomb comes on you can still hear the guitar fading on a little bit when the static comes on. Little Girl/RHS like I said its hard to hear the last note Tre hits that eco sound effect continues to RHS, I guess that wouldnt count. If a background of wave counts of last ride in count then drum should count for novacaine and shes a rebel.... Ooohh the ones from 21st Century Breakdown are truly amazing; but I choose Holiday/Boulevard Of Broken Dreams. 'cause you can't separate them; the others finish and the next one starts right away, but whenever you hear Boulevard start playing, you can still hear the end of Holiday and that's what I love the most from them ♥ And Give Me Novacaine / She's A Rebel should be on the list, in my opinion. Rock Band puts Novacaine and She's a Rebel together. I assume it's for a reason. I voted for Holiday/BOBD, but I must say I love See You Tonight/F**k Time. Gorgeous. I never had that mindset - I was simply defending the criteria I set forth in my OP. That said, I would have appreciated if you said that to my face (a reply) rather than spouting off to the other members. That said, I realized after starting the thread that many members had different criteria in their heads when voting. Therefore I will be adding the other songs. The poll seems to have evolved beyond the original idea I had.

No idea why my post was one of those you singled out as "spouting off to the other members," when both my choices were already included. I didn't say anything in complaint. Seems unnecessarily defensive.
Hermione Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Gotta be Holiday/BOBD. Not particularly for the songs themselves but I just love the way the transition between them sounds . The way the guitar of BOBD comes in as the last note of Holiday fades out and then the note ends so it's just the guitar for a moment sounds really beautiful. The Chump/Longview transition is great too. And See You Tonight/Fuck Time is a brilliant combo! It's so funny the way it goes from that sweet little folky song about seeing someone that night to a filthy one about what will actually happen when they see them

I guess I started some arguments. I'll think before I post something next time. My bad.

Honestly, I'm not mad at any of you who wanted the other songs. Way to go, you expressed your opinions on a forum, which is what you're supposed to do, and it payed off.
newsflash777 Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Definitely AWTW and St. Jimmy for me. The contrast of the lyrics, the rhythms... I don't know. American Idiot as a whole would not have been the same without the continuation songs in general. Added to the whole spastic, multi personality effect.
Mr Panda Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 wooh...tough choice between holiday/Bobd and are we the waiting/st.Jimmy....but ermm,i go with the later one

What I find funny about all of that is when you put the other songs that everyone was freaking out about on there, no one seemed to vote for them! I changed my vote though. Good topic by the way.
