Todd Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 So if they made a campaign video against gay marriage you'd hop on that band wagon? Now that's just implausible and ridiculous, and that was a pretty low move on your part
Sarcasm Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Now that's just implausible and ridiculous, and that was a pretty low move on your partI never claimed honor.
Ritz Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 AI 2 is impractical. Something like AI can't be repeated.
iScottie Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Yes and they should have the newly established Jesus of Suburbia turn into an Eminem with 8 Mile. #RAP #DOPE
Overjoyyed Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 they will officially be SELL-OUTS even to ME if they ever did that!
Spoopy Doo Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 My thoughts of this are like making another Dookie album: it's one of a kind, and should stay that way.
HolyHandGrenade Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 My thoughts of this are like making another Dookie album: it's one of a kind, and should stay that way. I think that would apply to 21CB, and partially Insomniac. I wouldn't want it to be any more similar than that
OneSongInFrench Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 If they want to? (end of thread?) Seriously. If they want to do it, they can do it. I think it'd be fun to listen to.
The Forgotten Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 I'm pretty sure 21st Century Breakdown was essentially American Idiot 2 anyways...
HolyHandGrenade Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 If they want to? (end of thread?) Seriously. If they want to do it, they can do it. I think it'd be fun to listen to. I think with real fans, it would be a success no matter what, but outside of that group, it would probably get ripped to shreds as being a fall back from the "failed" trilogy. I'm up for anything.

I'm up for anything. Well anything they do that's successful will be called a "fall back" to the "failed" trilogy. Make a punk record? It's trying to make Dookie again...go rock opera? It's a copy of AI. I say do what feels right for them personally and musically. If they have more story to tell, then I say tell it. Music is a form of expression, and sometimes you have a narrative to explain. If Billie Joe has more for his characters, then it's his medium of choice in song to give them a life. I'm happy to follow the ride.
Slave To The Network Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 It would be interesting, but I don't think there's anywhere to go with that story anymore. The point is that we will never know what happened to Johnny in the end or if he ever crosses paths with Whatsername again. Plus St. Jimmy is dead and he was a key element to the struggle and emotion of the story. What makes American Idiot so great is that it leaves the end open to questions that won't be answered.
LazyPhil Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Spider-Man 2 sucked? You mean the film that was largely considered to be the best super hero film ever until The Dark Knight came out? Spider Man 1 is way better to me
WhiteTim Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 I didnt really saw someone say The Lost World is on par as Jurassic Park...
green day is Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 I consider 21CB to be AI 2, in the sense that had AI not developed the musical style and thematic elements needed for 21CB (and had AI not sold 800 zillion copies), 21CB would not have happened. I've always thought of AI being Jingletown during the Bush administration and 21CBD being Jingletown after, just focusing on different people during those two periods.
WhiteTim Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Their next cd should be American Idiot 2 and producer should be Maurice Starr... lol I've always thought of AI being Jingletown during the Bush administration and 21CBD being Jingletown after, just focusing on different people during those two periods. That's a great view of the albums
isuckatthesethings Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 tbh I never heard a story in the whole album, ofc in jesus of suburbia its about jos and give me novacaine is about weed but it's not like there's a full storyline i think. btw is shoplifter about st jimmy ?
Andrew Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 I'd rather just listen to American Idiot twice. Why make a part 2 of an album they are never going to top? In fact, why make a part 2 of any album? It's not like a film where they stand to make loads of money from sequels regardless of quality. They would have a lot more to lose than to gain from making a part 2.

Andrew Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Haha okay, but that's just the album names, not different parts of the same story.
Guest Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Haha okay, but that's just the album names, not different parts of the same story. You smoke enough weed, you'll find the story
Andrew Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 You smoke enough weed, you'll find the story That's my day sorted then.
Elena Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 tbh I never heard a story in the whole album, ofc in jesus of suburbia its about jos and give me novacaine is about weed but it's not like there's a full storyline i think. btw is shoplifter about st jimmy ? there is a full story line okay, since i'm too lazy to write the whole story here, i searched it on the internet and this is the best answer: "If you have the actual CD with the booklet, it's a little easier to understand (I think). Now, everyone has a slightly different idea of the story. On any website where people discuss the meaning, you'll get a bunch of different stories and arguments about them. Personally, I think it's fun to try and figure it out, and it doesn't really matter if you're right or not, because all songs are open to interpretation and it's kick-a** music no matter which way you look at it. My interpretation (song by song): 1. "American Idiot" - An introduction to Jimmy's (the main character's) views on the state of the nation 2. "Jesus Of Suburbia" - This illustrates Jimmy's life at home (before he leaves for the city). He calls himself the Jesus of Suburbia, and basically he thinks the world sucks. Some people think he's got a mental disorder (like multiple personality, which is quite possible)... but he's obviously confused and pessimistic and sick of suburban life. In the end (Part 5: "Tales of Another Broken Home"), he leaves home & sets out for the city. 3. "Holiday" - At this point, I think Jimmy is just kinda running around doing whatever, plus the song is another political statement. 4. "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" - He gets depressed. He's lonely, sad, possibly suicidal, whatever. 5. "Are We The Waiting" - I think this is the song that confuses a lot of people when trying to break down the story. It's like a transition between the beginning and the rest of the album, when Jimmy is still trying to find himself or something. It's kinda hopeful, to me. 6. "St. Jimmy" - First, let's get this straight: Some people say Jesus of Suburbia & St. Jimmy are two different people, some say they're just different versions of the same person. I am in the latter category. I think St. Jimmy is just Jimmy's other personality in the album. In "Are We The Waiting", it says "the Jesus of Suburbia is a lie"... now Jimmy turns into a hardcore, possibly drug-dealing/suicidal punk. 7. "Give Me Novacaine" - Drugs. 8. "She's A Rebel" - Jimmy meets Whatsername, the perfect girl for him. The song sums up her character pretty well... 9. "Extraordinary Girl" - In the CD booklet, some of the lyrics are in Jimmy's handwriting, and some are in Whatsername's writing. The song describes their difficult relationship. 10. "Letterbomb" - This is Whatsername's letter to Jimmy. She flat-out tells him "you're not the Jesus of Suburbia, the Saint Jimmy is a figment of your father's rage and your mother's love". She leaves him, fed up with the town & him. 11. "Wake Me Up When September Ends" - In the storyline of American Idiot, this is Jimmy mourning the loss of Whatsername after she leaves. The song is about Billie Joe Armstrong's father dying (he died of cancer on September 1, 1982 when Billie Joe was 10 years old) 12. "Homecoming" - With Whatsername gone and no one else around, Jimmy is unsure what to do. He has to figure some stuff out. The lyrics "Jimmy died today, he blew his brains out into the bay, in the state of mind, it's my own private suicide" mean Jimmy "killed" St. Jimmy (the self-destructive side of him, sort-of). "Rock 'N Roll Girlfriend" is a postcard from Jimmy's friend Tunny, wherever he is. By the end of the song, Jimmy realizes what he needs to do, and he goes home to Jingletown. 13. "Whatsername" - He's been back home for a while, and he's no longer the Jesus of Suburbia or St. Jimmy, he's just Jimmy. But he still thinks about Whatsername. I think this song is kind-of a reflection on his time in the city and what he lost. Source(s): major Green Day geek" the only thing is i always took Holiday kinda as the party where JOS is happy to be free and in BOBD he realizes that it ain't as beautiful as he thought... and i always thought if you take JOS and St Jimmy as one person, then JOS's alter ego dies, so not St Jimmy (or Jimmy as that person wrote) but Jesus Of Suburbia goes home...as in this case it's the same person, it doesn't matter either way, just when you take them as two different people St Jimmy dies and JOS goes home...
