i think people keep bringing up nightlife just because its the closest thing green day has done compared to this. other than a drum machine i dont think theyre similar

People keep bringing up Nightlife because the vocal effects sound very similar, they're both pseudo-rap songs, and they're both crap.

The thing is, Nightlife (I assume) isn't supposed to be funny, but I think it's funnier than I Run NY.

Did Nightlife use a drum machine? I remember in Cuatro they messed with one a little somewhere but I don't think it was used on the record, at least not entirely.

oh hmm it sounds like it to me but i'm far from an expert. it sounds like they used kit + a drum machine. i really have no idea

yep thats why they bring it up. i happen to like nightlife but thats another story

I never even thought about it until now.

P.sure it's either a real kit or a real kit and a drum machine, cause you can hear him raising and closing the hi-hat for some of the hits, which drum machines don't usually do. They don't get that kind of technique thing.

Wouldn't doubt it being both though.

You DEFINITELY have those sounds on a drum machine, a good one anyways. Nice electronic drums for less than a grand have a pedal for the hat so you can synthetically open and close it. I use all samples and machiens in my music and I definitely have open and closing hats.

Granted it never occured to me, but I wouldn't be TOO surprised if it was a drum machine on that song.

I mean like when you hit it and close it as it's still "going" or the reverse.

It's kinda hard to explain, you really have to see it happen or play drums and actually do it. I know that some drum machines will have something like it but in the song there's definitely some real drums going on.

I'm not sure what you're saying. I do play drums when I get the chance and I've seen some drum machines that you could never tell the difference of in studio. But it might have been a real kit.

Yeah it's hard to explain :/ You'd probably know exactly what I meant if I could explain it better though.

Maybe you have some video reference? If you're saying what I think you're saying then yeah, you can get that on a drum kit. The downside of a drum machine is that most stop experimenting once they get a realy 4ontheFloor beat down. EQ and Reverb goes a loooonnnggg way for electronic drums.

Why are people so upset over this? Musicians don't classify music the way we do. They gather together, have fun and explore new horizons. Musicians and comedians? Double fun!

And this is a fine vocal, one can see the improvement over the time, gradually. That's totally normal. Just watch Woodstock 1994 again and think of how Billie's come along from then. Plus, comedy songs, as far as I know, require the words to be properly understood and not much attention is paid to backing tracks. On the other hand, drum machines have been a part of some incredible music, for example the second half of this composition.

The song's OK. :)

It's not bad. I like how billie sings his part. I have no idea about this band. Though they seem to be good I don't think i'm gonna listen their other songs. I'm not into rap music!

They're not a band, they're a comedy act. They make joke/spoof songs only (this one is my personal favourite :D).

I'm concerned that so many people seem to be unaware of this fact :P. This isn't meant to be a good rap song. The Lonely Island is a comedy act not a real rap group. Please don't judge this as anything other than a joke song!

I thought it was pretty funny. I'd love to say it's nothing like Billie would ever do with Green Day but Nightlife fucked that idea up  The idea of a brass "gangsta" statement like "I run this town" being put into the reality of red tape and administration is hilarious. It's a bit noisy and full of static but overall pretty good. I'm happy to see Billie doing something like this!

I fucking love that one. Probably my favorite by them.

Psh, that can't beat Threw It On The Ground or Boombox ;) Hell, I've yet to hear a song of theirs that I didn't find pretty damn video, especially those with the videos. Motherlover? God, that just kills me.

I'm laughing at the comments on that. One person asked where great day is.

Great day is a lonely island song, that's why.

It's actually not just a link to my blog, it's just something funny I made to go with the song.

Ummm well just heard it today, it's different, but I like Billie's part, and I like the little voice rift he does during parts like around 2:49 when he sings "crawling with worms in si-i-ide!" I love that :D Lol!

I don't know why Billie has this sudden thing with rap..
I didn't like nightlife at all, and even this song doesn't impress me..
He should try experimenting, but at least the experiment should be good
He once said in an interview 'I don't buy rap music'. What's happened now?
