musso_kn Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 It's not meant to be by rap standards though. It's meant to be by joke/comedy/spoof song standards. Kind of like how Dominated Love Slave isn't good by country standards and All By Myself isn't good by acoustic standards: they're not meant to be they're just joke songs. I don't think it's all that funny, though. I've heard a few Lonely Island tracks before that I found absolutely hilarious. This doesn't cut it. Each to their own, I guess.
musso_kn Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 IS the rumor true? Does Billie Joe rap?! Nahhh, he's just singing with lots of production and autotune.
Hermione Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 I don't think it's all that funny, though. I've heard a few Lonely Island tracks before that I found absolutely hilarious. This doesn't cut it. Each to their own, I guess. Yeah whether it's funny or not is a matter of taste. I think they have much funnier songs but it's not bad, and the fact it's Billie makes it funnier. But I still wouldn't judge it on standards of musical quality or in comparison to other rap songs or Nightlife, it's still just a spoof.
Heather. Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 I like it Although it mostly just makes me think "Yeah, it must be shitty being mayor of NY"
Dirntbag Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 http://green-day-geek.tumblr.com/post/52449748311#notes The lost track to American Idiot. Ohmygod
GDM Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 I like it Although it mostly just makes me think "Yeah, it must be shitty being mayor of NY" It is shitty. You couldn't pay me to be mayor or this asshole town, lol.
Asa. Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Ugh I don't really like it. It gets to the point in the first verse, overstates it in the second and then the rest of the song is basically beating a dead horse. That's just something the Lonely Island does. For example, in their song "Like a Boss", they say the words "Like a Boss" about 400 times, so you get the point, but they just like to drive it home.
lizziebix Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 I don't know what some of y'all were expecting from this I was thinking this. It's not Green Day after all and Billie probably had no say in the lyrics. It's a comedy song with Billie singing. That's all it is. And it's not that bad. Fun, funny, lighthearted dig at NYC. Good combination.
Malleus Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 That's just something the Lonely Island does. For example, in their song "Like a Boss", they say the words "Like a Boss" about 400 times, so you get the point, but they just like to drive it home. Like half of that song's lyrics are just LIKE A BOSS. It's totally different than a song "beating a dead horse" so to speak.
Hermione Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Well it's still just ugh and I'm disappointed in Billie for contributing to it Why?
The Forgotten Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 I had such low expectations for the song, that I'm ridiculously happy about it now that I hear it..
Firecracker Lell Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 It's a joke song tho Didn't expect anything so high! Billie singing in this kinda songs makes me laugh.
Hermione Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Well the content is just stupid, and he's not associated with NYC in a big way to the majority of the Lonely Island's fan base, so he's as about as out of place on a song about NYC as an ostrich in church. I think that's on purpose, it's meant to be nonsensical/a silly joke/a spoof of all the posturing rap songs you get about "running New York". And I think the fact that Billie's not even from New York is part of the joke. They could've chosen any number of singers from New York but to make even more nonsensical they picked one who isn't even from there. But whether you think it's funny or not being "disappointed" in Billie seems a bit strong, it's just something he did for a laugh in his spare time that's purely a joke.
The Forgotten Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 I think the joke is that Billie-Joe runs New York as much as any other dumb rapper who claims they do
JIGD13 Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 What I expected from this song was really what I'm listening to it, a rap song, with some funny lyrics that could be a lot like YOLO, I'm not disappointed actually I listened the song all night long to sleep and I turned on the computer again just to listen to it
iScottie Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 I like how uptight some of you guys are getting over a COMEDY song...
Red Lights Flash Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 he's not associated with NYC in a big way to the majority of the Lonely Island's fan base, so he's as about as out of place on a song about NYC as an ostrich in church. Absolutely! I mean, at least Michael Bolton was associated with the Pirates of the Caribbean to the majority of the Lonely Island's fan base, right? Just saying, this is just comedy, nothing else.
JIGD13 Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Well the content is just stupid, and he's not associated with NYC in a big way to the majority of the Lonely Island's fan base, so he's as about as out of place on a song about NYC as an ostrich in church. So The Lonely Island and T-Pain fucked their aunts?
elisa Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 I like how uptight some of you guys are getting over a COMEDY song... haha i know right? it's actually pretty cool, the catchiest song out of the ones released for this new record.
Sarahnade Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Lyrical correction. In hearing this and I think it would make sense: In this lake of beurocratic bullshit It's a miracle I don't drown.
