DoubleTen95 Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Yep, a little. But that still doesn't make the rest of their discography punk music. well no but there's no denying that they are influenced by it! 409 In Your Coffeemaker, Welcome to Paradise, Armatage Shanks, Bab's Uvula Who?, Stuck With Me (lyrically), Tightwad Hill, Reject I'm referring to the one's that are blatantly obvious punk songs and nowhere near the tempo of say WMUWSEI believe Jesse Michaels appreciates green day for sticking together all this time! This isn't really a notable punk, but I recently met Mass Giorgini. He was in a band called Squirtgun and I believe he was even in Screeching Weasel for a little bit. He's also a producer. He produced the first Rise Against album and mastered the most recent Anti-Flag album. He spoke very highly of Green Day and said they are friends and great human beings! Yeah man I love Mass! I'm proud to say Squirtgun is from Indiana which is where I live and it's awesome that Mass and Dan formed Common Rider with Jesse Michaels!!Here's that video in case anyone was wondering! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYVSi94AvKs
IsaGreenDay Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Glen Matlock, the "original" Sex Pistols bassist, once defended Green Day. He said: "I think they are just doing what bands do. When Green Day first came out I thought it was kind of funny that there was this Californian band doing this very English sound. But I went to see Green Day with my son, who's a fan, and it was very impressive."
spark in the night Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 If I recall from an old magazine I had... Poly Styrene from X-ray Spex likes them. Jack White accused them of stealing his red/black color scheme (This was during AI era) Brandon Flowers claims he wore eyeliner first. this little piggie cried wah wah wah all the way home
DoubleTen95 Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Jack White accused them of stealing his red/black color scheme (This was during AI era) Excuse me Mr. Jack White, I do believe that Rancid would be the owner of the red/black color scheme of which you speak! Good day!
Hermione Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 If I recall from an old magazine I had... Poly Styrene from X-ray Spex likes them. Jack White accused them of stealing his red/black color scheme (This was during AI era) Brandon Flowers claims he wore eyeliner first. this little piggie cried wah wah wah all the way home That's amusing since the White Stripes didn't even wear red and black, they wore red and white! And yeah I'm sure Brandon Flowers was the first person to ever wear eyeliner and everyone else is just copying him
spark in the night Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 I'll have to dig and see if I can find the magazine. I want to say it was a Kerrang issue from 2005 or 2006. I remember it was a huge All Green Day magazine...maybe it was NME?
WhiteTim Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Brandon Flowers claims he wore eyeliner first. this little piggie cried wah wah wah all the way home If men are complaining about another man wearing eye liner first then we are so lost.... And Kurt Cobain beats Brandin and Billie at it lol
openupyourskull Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 If men are complaining about another man wearing eye liner first then we are so lost.... And Kurt Cobain beats Brandin and Billie at it lol Not to mention Brandon was inspired to start doing it because of Robert Smith of The Cure!
Hermione Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 If men are complaining about another man wearing eye liner first then we are so lost....And Kurt Cobain beats Brandin and Billie at it lolNot to mention half of all 70s and 80s bands lol
spark in the night Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 hahaha I wish I could find that magazine. I'm pretty sure it was Hammer, but the scans on GDA don't have that part! I don't have that many GD magazines grrr

Rochester to be exact but I go to school at Purdue which is where Mass is getting his PhD. He's a great guy! He told me to keep in contact with him which was awesome.
WhiteTim Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Not to mention half of all 70s and 80s bands lol Exactly

Nova-Caine Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Where the hell is that photo of Lydon and Billie talking recently, maybe last year? Searched through Google and can't find it, I doubt John hates him, he just likes to get his face in the papers occasionally, he's a silly old moo
musso_kn Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Where the hell is that photo of Lydon and Billie talking recently, maybe last year? Oh my God. The end is nigh.
Comrade Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 This is ultimately another one of those really pointless, shitey threads that just encourages mindless fanboy/girlism and a dislike for other musicians off the back of a couple of flipppant comments they may have made once or twice. I mean, who really cares? Punk is just a label. And a piece of shit one at that. Who cares what they are and what other people think they are? They're band who makes music to make themselves feel better and to have fun with that spans many genres. Why do people get hung up on the punk thing? Why does it matter to them? I seriously don't understand this fixation with Green Day being or not being punk. It's not like punk is some higher plane of being that makes them a better band for being a part of it. They're better without it. Green Day are just an arena rock band from a punk scene that turned on them for being ambitious enough to dream of having every house in the world blaring their music. oh i know! they think they are THE best band in the world, no joke! St. Jimmy, Platypus, Jaded, Take Back, In The End, F.O.D.? You don't feel even a little punk in those songs? Not particularly. If there is, does it make them better for labeling them punk? No. Yes, but the Gallagher brothers are 2 of the biggest twats on Planet Earth. Most of what they say is usually an attempt to fuel their 'rockstar' image, whereas they are actually just mainstream popstars with massive egos. That said I'm pretty sure Liam's comment was just a quip and Oasis are, in their own right, one of the biggest bands of all time with nothing to gain from genuinely slagging off other bands. They're more successful with Green Day despite having a shorter career. Might be twats but they're supremely talented - if not as much as then more than - the boys in Green Day. The vitriol directed at the mainstream among a lot of rock fans confuses me to this day. It's like people don't realise that rock has been the mainstream form of music for most of popular music history. Rock stars are all to the last one pop stars by extension and a lot of pop stars are rock stars. Jay Z is a fucking rock star. People wonder why rock has lost traction. It's because it is unwilling to accept and be a part of the rest of the musical landscape. Rock has become so fucking elitist it thinks that not being mainstream is somehow better than being mainstream. I wonder what guys like Joe Strummer, Mick Jagger and Freddie Mercury would have to say if that attitude had existed in rock when they were each getting big. Rock lost it's ambition and that is all punk stands for.

The punk scene is seen differently from outside forces. And if punk's a label than what's that make emo, scene, goth? Punk WAS an actual movement but idiots came though and ruined it by turning it into a fashion and no belief behind it. That's why you hear "Punk Is Dead" everywhere you go. As far as the genre, it can be exteremly diverse: Ska-Punk, Horror-Punk, Pop-Punk, Hardcore-Punk. Obviously GD has dabbled with it whether or not its one song or an entire album. The biggest thing about Punk is do what you want! Call me crazy but I think GD are much more than your average band, they really don't give two shits about what critique they'll recieve whenever they put out any music.

I don't have anything against mainstream artists, I just don't really like the way the Oasis guys seem to put themselves on a pedestal when, in my opinion, they are a very mediocre band.
X-Kid-X Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 DAVE GROHL had a drinking contest with Billie once!
DoubleTen95 Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 DAVE GROHL had a drinking contest with Billie once! He and Tre also poked at Marilyn Manson by putting in contacts like his eyes
HaushinkaSins Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 these guys aren't punk at all (I saw someone else post non-related punk artists who like green day) but kanye west, jay-z, beyonce, matthew Morrison, Darren criss, the Jonas brothers all like green day lmao
Webb_2011 Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 I'm hoping I could meet him someday, I've actually dreamed that he would introduce me to Jesse! Haha that would be awesome! He actually tried calling Justin Sane from Anti-Flag so I could talk to him, but unfortunately Justin didn't answer his phone
DoubleTen95 Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Alanis Morrissette covered Basket Case! Haha that would be awesome! He actually tried calling Justin Sane from Anti-Flag so I could talk to him, but unfortunately Justin didn't answer his phone Aw that sucks!
DoubleTen95 Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Don't Dave Grohl and Billie have matching tattoos? I swear I remember reading that a long time ago. That'd be awesome if they did!
