Artist influenced by Green Day

Definitely artists like blink, FOB, SP, etc. I also suspect that Rancid may have taken some cues from Green Day (yeah, I know Operation Ivy influenced Green Day, and OI was around before GD, but if you listen to songs like "Ruby Soho" or "Fall Back Down," they sound like they could maybe be GD songs). As an added note, I find it ironic that, while John Lydon loathes Green Day (and I am sure he wouldn't hate them if he actually took the time to do a little research on the band), he loves Lady Gaga (who loves Green Day, and who Billie Joe likes).

Billie has written a song with Rancid called Radio

By "blink" do you mean Mark? I don't think Tom would ever admit it... he's too much of a douche.

I actually like blink... I just talk shit because they're my fiance's favorite band. I have to.

;)

What is up with Tom these days? I use to love Blink-182 almost as much as Green Day. But tom just seems to get more and more awful as the years go by. His singing, his guitar playing, his clothes, his song-writing.........somebody please tell Mark and Travis to go back to +44 and let Blink-182 die. +44 is amazing. Blink was, up until 2005. Tom just wants to float around with astronauts and write long, boring songs with no hooks, no chorus, no beat, no soul. Just jangley, awful distorted garbage. UGH.

Biffy Clyro have mentioned at least three times that Green Day were a big influence on them when they were starting out. They were one of the first shows they saw together back in 1993, before Dookie was released. They also talked about how they were releasing a double album, and how Green Day upstaged them with a triple album.

Admittedly, Biffy don't sound much like Green Day these days, but their early demos have more than a tinge of pop punk to them.

I'm not sure if Green Day influenced Blink. And Mark and Tom maybe quoting good things about Green Day out of respect.

have you ever heard a blink song? :P the green day influence could not be more apparent. mark, tom, and travis have all mentioned green day's influence in several interviews, as well.

I saw an interview with Bullet For My Valentine in Kerrang once and they said at their first shows they played Green Day covers.

Busted.

And McFly.

They've influenced bands I don't like

Ok.. Except Biffy Clyro  But the influence isn't really apparent nowadays, so yeah.

Green Day has influenced Green Day mind blowing I know lol

Who were that Busted-esque band who did a quite frankly brilliant cover of Basket Case? Them.

I most certainly have lol.But to be honest.Blink songs(before their self titled album) don't sound so mature. They have a different style altogether.Green Day was not the only punk band around.Infact Cheshire's Cat came out in 1994, during Dookie and Green Day did not have THAT much inflence back then before Dookie.Even The Offspring was around at that time.

Anyways if they were really influenced by Green Day, I couldn't be happier, trust me.What I'm saying is Travis,Tom and Mark may be saying good things about Green Day out of respect. The closest member to be influenced by green day would be mark, since I have seen him with a kerplunk tshirt and he is the who usually answers the green day related questions in interviews.

I know Matt Toka was heavily influenced by Green Day. He said that when he was younger and growing up in a dysfunctional family setting, he would go into his room and blast Dookie to shut out the world. He was excited when Rob produced his EP. He also has an acoustic cover of "Burnout" on his YouTube channel and I believe he played a full band version of it this past summer on Warped Tour.

This so much. I saw blink live almost two years ago when they toured with MCR, and man did they make blink look AWFUL. And I wasn't even a huge fan of MCR then. Honestly, as much as I love Enema and Take Off Your Pants, I agree, they need to just let the band die. They're never going to make another record like that so long as they're involved with awful side projects like Angels & Airwaves that influence blink's sound way too much. Neighborhoods was awful. Dogs Eating Dogs was a little better, but not too much. Tom sounds like... I can't even think of a fitting comparison. A squwaking chicken? I dunno.

Because songs like F.O.D., Fuck Time, Dominated Love Slave and All By Myself are so mature. ;) Not everything Green Day writes is mature, either.

I disagree with you on the different style thing. Never thought I'd be defending blink on the Green Day forum, but songs like Stay Together for the Kids and Adam's Song are extremely mature, emotional songs and some of my favorite songs from any band. And they came out before the self-titled album. I agree, blink has way more immature songs than Green Day for the most part, but blink can also show a mature side at times. Kind of the opposite of Green Day, who has that uncommon moment of immaturity at times, but usually has more angsty, mature stuff.

Musically, I would say the two sound quite similar at times, though not always. Sometimes I'll listen to a blink bassline and think "man, that sounds just like something from Green Day." Occasionally a Green Day song (a few of their trilogy songs) has a blink-like pop. I'm not saying the two necessarily influence each other, but when you play a similar style of music with a similar band setup, you're going to have some songs that sound the same.

Bowling for soup have been influenced by Green Day. Also in Alice Coopers latest album there are fair few Green Day influences, might have something to do with his friendship with the band (mainly tre, playing golf together).

I heard that Frank Iero's (My Chemical Romance) idol is Billie Joe and that he learned to play guitar by imitating him ;)

I don't know if someone mentioned it already but I know for a fact that the Sick Puppies were influenced by Green Day, they used to play Green Day songs during band practice :)

Corey Taylor from Slipknot must have been influenced by Green Day. He's covered their songs acoustically a couple of times.

Sum 41. There are a lot of GD references in their music and their videos. Their front man, Deryck Whibley, says that when he was growing up, GD had just come out and they were more of an influence to him that Blink. Also, his stage presence is very similar to Billie Joe's, so he was quite obviously influenced by GD's live performances. He has also played the Brain Stew riff live a few times aswell.

Watching Deryck makes me uncomfortable at times because it's almost like looking at "fake Billies" :ermm:

I get what you mean, he is very similar to Billie at times.

Deryck Whibley seems to have got more Billie-like over time. I don't remember that much of a similarity when I saw them in 2008 or when I was a huge fan watching all their live videos back then. When I saw them last year though most of his mannerisms and speeches seemed almost identical. It was a bit weird but also kind of cute because it was obvious how much of a fan he was.

I met Cone McCaslin when I was going to Green Day's Phoenix show in 2010 (in the weirdest circumstances, I'd missed a connecting flight while held up by passport control, who thought my mum was a criminal... which meant I bumped into Cone who was going to Switzerland) and he told me he'd seen them just a few weeks before in Toronto and how good it was. Also they were the first band he ever saw live. There's a photo of him and Mike somewhere and I totally fangirled over that when I was younger.

Now my 14 year-old self just wants them to cover a Green Day song :P

I agree, I think Deryck had a few Billie-isms before, but now he is near identical.

And Cone is amazing. It's great that you just randomly bumped into him after missing your flight and got a chance to speak to him.

I would love to see them cover GD. I got so excited when I first saw them playing Brain Stew, but they only played a few seconds of it.
