i actually like that he straight out said what bothers him and not sugar coat it. I thought it was pretty funny though.

I wasn't born in 1992 you fucker!

But yeah, I noticed, and I was like whatevs about it :P

And when they were talking about leaked songs and allowing phones, they all said "Just fuck it, dude"

They did make a song called Carpe Diem.. so.. if you wanna hear Christie Road live, just listen to the old bootlegs, yo.

And after Carpe Diem comes to equally relevant songs - Let Yourself Go and Kill the DJ!

I didn't get the part with the cops. The cops didn't want them to play Tiki?

My point was that "seize the day" as in fuck yesterday, fuck tomorrow, live it up today :P

Yeah, I was adding on that Let Yourself Go has that same theme, and Kill the DJ speaks for itself about playing Christie Road

That part with the police reminded me of the music video for Where the Streets Have No Name

In the context of the "new material only" show, it makes sense. If he was speaking generally, then it would be a little on the mean side. In fact, when I first saw that part I was disappointed because I thought he was being surprisingly jerky, especially for a guy who seems to love his fans so much. But I've convinced myself that it's understandable because they were very clear that they were trying to only premiere new stuff.

Definitely seems kinda weird, since they hardly play any new material at GD shows nowadays ...

Are you guys seriously discussing this? Please!

Personally I'd be honored to be hit with his bass..no not really, but come on guys. Mike is a normal guy with limits, he was moody, stressed, nervous and agitated We all get pissed, we all get "dickish". Let's just move on! ha

I like to think they just caught Mike on a bad day. I was surprised when they played it in Pittsburgh and I immediately thought how angry Mike must be on the inside! I could see why after 20+ years of touring that you might get tired of hearing the same requests, but, shit, some of those fans only see you once a tour and really want to hear that song. I was irked by Mike's comment, but I don't read too much into it.

I'm sure it's really annoying to have people show up to shows, ones where Green Day explicitly states that they're only playing new songs, and then fans still have the nerve to beg for old stuff. I think that's really why it upset him, not that he hates playing it or hates the song or anything. I mean, he might, but I'm sure he understands that fans love it and will play it for them. But at the time, during the secret shows, and Green Day is treating people to new material, it's probably annoying to hear.

I also know that most people hate getting songs yelled at them when they perform live. I've seen mc chris live a bunch and people are always calling out his older stuff and he's usually just like, "I've already got a setlist." But a couple times he's gotten pissed. And as someone who's in a band, it gets annoying (not that we have any hits haha).

I didn't necessarily think it was out of line to say that - I'm sure they get tired of playing certain songs over and over again and it hits a nerve sometimes upon request - but it was a bit harsh.

Posted

oh, I honestly don't care what he says

I'm far from being one of those fans who hate green day's new stuff, considering warning, american idiot and 21st century breakdown are some of my favorite albums of all time, but christie road is better than most of the songs in the trilogy. oh well.

I think he was mainly talking about that one show. They wanted to play all new stuff and they told the audiance that a few times. It was probably annoying to hear people still screaming christie road after they said they were playing new stuff only.

maybe he is just sick of reading/hearing fans saying thaat they should go back to being the band they were when they first started out! which isnt possible and seriously, who the hell actually wants to go back to being that age again?

I know fans mean the sound and the song content but why would they want to write about teenage angst when they can write about nappy rash and divorce lawyers instead? you might need more songs about the former but they have moved on from that. if you don`t like the way the band sounds now, move on and find a band that is the same age as you who write that kind of song. or write your own. :P

I don't think he was being deadly serious , he was making an off hand comment not stating his official philosophy on life. It's understandable that SOMETIMES he'd be super excited to play new stuff and find it a bit of a drag to get pestered to play old stuff. Like say when they're playing a show specifically to showcase/try out new stuff for example. That doesn't mean he feels that way ALL the time or that he hates that particular song (he probably just picked a random old song out of the air). Nothing to be alarmed about.

Guys, your missing the point. Mike was saying that because they were at the club to play new songs. Not to play the hits. after the whole threatening to hit with the bass thing, he says to go back to 1992 for a moment. Meaning to just shut up and listen to these new songs they made. The whole statement itself has nothing to do with Christine Road and the only reason why he mentioned that song in particular was because some person there kept shouting CHRISTINE ROAD!!!! CHRISTINE ROAD!!!!

This.

Also, it's Billie's song, Billie wrote it, all of it, for his gf. So Mike would be kinda rude if he said he didn't like it and it sucked. Do you know how many times Billie's said "Fuck all the new shit.

We're gonna play an old song". It's not like they hate their old stuff either.

You guys have got to stop being so butthurt.

Pretty sure he just said that because they were trying to play all these new songs and there were people not quite getting it and yelling about old songs, which would get annoying.

I would still request it

I think it was because in that first mini-tour they wanted to play all new songs!

Also, keep in mind the fact that it was a pretty slick, edited documentary. I don't think they would have purposely included any clips that would have made the band members intentionally look bad or ungrateful to the fans. As other posters pointed out, when taken in context, he was referring specfically to the secret shows with sets that were for new material only. In fact, at these shows they played two sets- one of new material, and one of old. So, he's basically bitching that some fans can't even make it through the first set of new material without screaming out requests for the older songs. It was his way of saying "chill guys, have some patience and listen to this new stuff for an hour for crying out loud, and then we'll play the old songs". We weren't getting a glimpse of Mean Mike. This was toungue-in-cheek stuff.

By the way, I'm sure when it's truly behind the scenes, they're sure to occasionally have less than flattering things to say about some people or fans on occasion. After all, they are human, and I'm sure that sometimes certain fans do drive them nuts, and understandably so. But I wouldn't expect a produced, fully edited documentary to show these moments.

I was a bit sad too. I think bands should listen to their fans, and especially when it comes to things like this.

Fans are the people who buy their cd's, wear their merchandise and go to their concerts and thats the reason why bands can make a living from making music. Then the least thing they could do is to play their favourite songs live.

well I can't understand the "if you want Christie Road, go back to 1992".. would be the same thing if the Ramones had started complaining about Blitzkrieg Bop cuz it was old...

anyways I think that when he said that in Cuatro, was cuz he was talking about the secret shows when at the beggining of each concert the bad stated that they will play only new songs that night and people didn't stop asking for old songs....
