If a Green Day tour was for some reason sucky, I would first question the person who went to the concert, not Green Day. You can complain all you want, but when you're there in person singing your heart out, you end up with a very different opinion

It's not them performing, it's the setlist, how they aren't even coming to Texas, how it was postponed ( I know they didn't have much of a choice). I hope they have a second us tour, and hopefully the setlist isn't good because billie is trying to play safer set lists, and it's not that much of the lack of non singles, it's that you pretty much know what they'll play going into it

sorry, but the tour doesn't 'suck' just because they aren't playing all the songs you want them to. its still a damn good show that's worth seeing at the end of the day :)

This whole thing disappoints me. When I looked around at my concert during X-Kid, I was one of the few people actually singing along. Not only did that sadden me, but it also annoyed me.

I understand that not everyone enjoyed the trilogy... I cannot change that. But I just feel like you should at least have some enthusiastic during any trilogy songs. How upsetting would that be to you if you're playing your new material to your fans, all excited, and they just stare at you with a straight face? I completely understand why Billie is playing mostly pre-trilogy songs.

Again, that angers me, specifically because I enjoyed the trilogy a lot. I love every single moment of every song. Yes, even Nightlife.

What I'm most conscious of in all of this is the bravery of it, from Billie Joe and the band as a whole. For him to have come out of a rehab situation and straight into one where he's not just performing as a band-member, but as a frontman who has to connect with the audience and make the show happen, is such a huge deal, and pretty fucking scarey. There was every chance that he could've gotten stage-fright first time out, or any time since, and I feel like alongside of the joy he has in being back where he belongs, there's also the effort of just maintaining himself in that place. He's fighting his corner in front of thousands of people, and he can't just get by, he has to bring it.

I think it's remarkable to see this band in action again, pounding out a high-energy set of songs that are every one of them gems, engaging their audiences, giving everything they have to give from such a raw and real place.

The dilemma is that most people tht are moaning about the set list are the hardcore fans like most us on form who buy all the albums and crave over green day we go to as many shows as possible and seen the bands same show for over 10 years.

Tho the band are still stuck in AI mode trying to cater for the wannabe fans that only know the hits

The thing most them fans are gone moved on

And there left with the people that are dedicated fans getting the same old show and hits

I mean, it's totally obvious that the vast majority of concertgoers aren't die-hards and just go for the hits and I expected that. But on the other hand, I TOTALLY EXPECTED THE OPPOSITE, WHICH YOU TALK ABOUT! :o Like, when I told people I was going to see them, I got a lot of "Oh, I liked them in high school, they're still touring?" and "I'd go see them in 2005, but not now." Which is why, even though, as I said, I expected lots of casual fans, the completely irrational part of my brain only expected big fans to show up (and unless you were in the nosebleeds, I feel like you'd have to be a big fan to pay those prices!).

I've been thinking a lot about this whole topic, and my conclusion is that really, I just want them to keep doing what they're doing. I have never complained about the set list - I think it is a very listener friendly set, regardless of how long you have been a Green Day fan. Getting to see them live is an amazing, moving experience. In the moment, it genuinely does not matter what they play - the important part is that they're there, and you're there, and life is good. So many people will never get to see them play because of their financial situation or the band won't tour near their location. Those who get to go are so lucky. Every night I get to spend with Green Day is the best night of my life.

As for the off-ness going on onstage: I really think it comes down to the banter, to be completely honest. At my show Billie didn't talk much, and that bummed me out. I love hearing is little stories. My favorite moments at Green Day gigs are usually goofy little things he says or does, so I really missed that.

I don't believe the band is quite back to their usual selves yet, but they'll get there. They went back out on tour very quickly, and are surely still going through a lot personally and professionally in dealing with the past few months. They will continue to adapt and grow more comfortable as time goes on, just as we all do when we go through some kind of change.

All I know is that when I watch back videos from the concerts, I see a beaming, adorably awkward frontman that I know and love. I wholeheartedly mean it when I say seeing him look so overwhelmingly happy is one of the greatest feelings in the world.

This was so beautiful, thanks for that

Green day ARE sellouts man, if they really didnt care about money, they would already be playing at least half of the new songs. Green day is famous for overplaying their songs, ask other people they think Green day is annoying now. BOBD, 21 guns, minority, welcome to paradise, brainstew, she, basket case, know your enemy, oh love, stop when the red light flash are so overplayed that I cant listen to them anymore, oh yeah King for a day, man bullet in a bible's king for a day was great and you should have stopped it there with an epic end. Dont be naive man Green day mostly care about money, and Mike dirnt said fuck the past if someone yells Christie road again Im going to hit him with the bass, thats true. But how hypocritical he looks now playing only old songs. Man if Green day doesnt change the setlist I can officialy say Green day's concerts suck, they're too repettive. The same this, party or celebration? He said it million times already. If you want to play old songs then just ignore that tour and play only old songs from kerplunk and 1039. btw where have all badass Green day's fans gone, only naive teenagers left.

People you dont have balls to move on and go forward, you dont evolve just by sticking to the same songs. Evolution man .I was so excited about 99 revoltion tour, they have to change something and Im pretty sure they will.

How to reply here man?

it's funny that you say that the only green day fans left are naive teenagers when every single post i've seen you make sounds like it's coming from a thirteen year old

Oh yeah. May I know where do I sound like a 13 year old girl? If you're satisfied with the setlist and you agree that you need to stick what you have, than Im pretty sure your life is damn boring. There always should be some changes, and routine sucks. Billie just contradicted himself when he wrote redundant

1. Is it wrong for them to care about making their fans happy (no matter how hardcore they are)? If the crowd is happy, the band is happy... It feeds off of itself

2. How in the WORLD is Stop When the Red Lights Flash overplayed?

3. Who are you to judge what Green Day cares about? Even us GDC members, admittedly, barely know everything that goes on in their lives. The rehab is proof of that.

I love the people who cry that Green Day are sellouts and only in it for the money. Well, duh, of course they want to make money...It's what they've chosen as their JOB. Making music is the line of work they have chosen and I say more power to them and they deserve every penny they make.

As for the overplaying part...I'd rather hear their music played then the shit that passes for music these days. There are very few entertainment acts that are worth listening too. Hell, I'd rather hear Green Day read a phone book than listen to the crap played on the radio.

The trilogy didn't do well. The rehab thing pretty much blew that out of the water. So they stick to playing what people know. So what? Be grateful they're still around and putting on these shows. And making a shit ton of money while do so...Good for them I say. Sell outs...pffft. Good business sense...yes.

As for some of the more negative comments, I did agree with them in many ways after seeing the setlists the last couple weeks. But after attending the show in Brooklyn, I can honestly say, there's a huge difference between looking at a setlist on setlist.fm and actually seeing the songs live. You can read through the website and be like "Holiday, Basket Case, American Idiot, blah blah blah", but when you're actually there every song is amazing and you don't care in the moment what the setlist is.

As for the trilogy songs, I think they're actually playing a decent amount considering the circumstances. I just wish they'd do some better ones. I personally think Stop When the Red Lights Flash should be swapped out with Nuclear Family, and Nuclear Family should be the show opener. 99 Revolutions should be in the encore. And Stray Heart should be permanently in the set.

Has it ever dawned on anyone that the reason their set list seems repetitive to us is because, unlike the casual fan, us "hardcore die hards" go to multiple shows and when we aren't fortunate enough to get tickets or have the money to travel we watch clips from the shows on YouTube. Of course it seems repetitive, we've repeatedly watched the same tour over and over. Most casual fans go to see a band maybe once or twice. For many this tour maybe the one and only time they ever see Green Day live. And can we please cut Billie a break the guys just come back from a very scary life changing crisis. He needs our support, after everything he's given his fans I think he deserves that much. Remember they tried doing shows with just new music and Billie said it sent him into a sort of depression, probably not what he needs at this point in his life.

And Brutal Kid...

Hey I get it, you don't like the setlist, you don't want to pay good money for a show you've seen a dozen times before. My advice to you is then dont buy a ticket. But please don't hurl unwarranted insults like calling them sell outs. They aren't trying to make a buck, that much is evident buy the lack of promotion and ticket prices, they are just trying to get back to what they love and what we love them for.

as i've said many times in this thread and other places on this forum, i don't think the setlists are perfect. i'm dying to hear more new songs and older rarities but that doesn't mean i don't understand why they're doing what they're doing at this point. i was talking about the fact that you've said like three or four times now that all green day care about is money which is probably one of the stupidest things i've ever heard someone say about them. when people say they don't like the new music, that's fine. when people say they don't like the setlist, that's fine, and those are just two examples. you saying you think those songs are overplayed is fine, that's your opinion, even though stop when the red lights flash is anything but overplayed. but saying all they care about is money is just dumb, sorry. i never said you sounded like a thirteen year old GIRL, i said you sounded like a thirteen year old because you don't even attempt to get your point across in a civil manner.

Is dumb haha? Twilight, angry brids, oh love video, kill the dj( Im talking about the another version without cursing specially made for radio), they said apple sucks and now they only use apple, Billie's silver guitar, and funny thing that they dont play their new stuff only because it didnt sell well. No money again? Tell me how they matured. I swear you can like anything that Green day does, thats why Green day is not evolving. I never thought I would say that but they're sellouts. Dont you think Billie wears these kinds of clothes to attract teenage girls? Even though I like all their songs, but I have balls to admit that Green day's music is for teenagers

You're making it harder and harder for me to respect you with those first two sentences.

"Why do they want to please people who only know their hits?" They want to please everyone who makes the sacrifices necessary to see Green Day live. What would you have them do? Kick out the "poser fans"? I doubt that would gain them any respect. I'd say that they DO try to make hardcore fans happy. That's why we hear stuff like Holden Caulfield and Disappearing Boy, and it's why they haven't resorted to a literal greatest hits tour. The thing is, the ratio of songs like Holden to hits or minor hits is probably equivalent to the ratio of hardcore fans to moderate fans. I see nothing wrong with them going by the statistics there.

Are you really complaining about the tour being postponed? Isn't the important thing that they're back and Billie is healthy?

I know it was out of their control, I'm just saying it was annoying, like I said I would probably actually be mad if they had made any Texas dates in the first place other than SXSW and El Paso

Posted

I'm disappointed that some fans are disappointed.
They have to play their biggest hits because they can't assume that everyone at their shows has already seen them multiple times.
I'm fine with their set lists! I would be already happy if Billie stares into the crowd for 2 hours

what about the fans who have been with them since their begining, true fans? they dont care about them? they dont want to make them happy?

Sorry but I couldn't be a "true fan" since their beginning. I was busy being a fucking fetus.

Some people (most families, in fact) are not OK with F-bombs every 10 seconds. There's nothing wrong with that. As far as Twilight and Angry Birds go, Green Day does not make all the decisions. They have a sea of people and companies around them all trying to push their will onto one group of guys. There are contracts, record labels, etc... And perhaps, just maybe, they like Angry Birds. There is nothing wrong with that either.

Um, excuse me, teenage girls listen to One Direction and Rihanna. That's a far cry from Green Day.

no, Green day shouldnt please their fans, fans should do that instead. If they dont know any lyrics or something they shouldnt come, or buy the actual album and learn the damn thing. Man you dont have to respect me, its your choice, you can stick to what you like, all I can do is that Green day will make up their minds and do smth. People say Green day were sellouts in 21st century breakdown tour, no they werent, but no they definetely are. Twilight haha kidding me? Why would Green day would let twilight use their song? simple Green day's music is for teenagers and Green day were desperate so they tried to attract other bunch of naive teenagers. I cannot believe the band that I liked became so boring and repetetive, I'll support them till the end of their career, but they need to quit this money stuff.

People live busy lives, and most do not have the time to learn the lyrics to literally hundreds of songs. Should we have security give them a "Green Day Trivia" quiz to let them in? No, no, and no. Let them enjoy an awesome night. Concerts are where fans are made, not just where fans show of how many tattoos of Tre they have.

If you've never been to a Green Day concert I hate to tell you this but you ain't "saying how it is". You are saying how you perceive it to be from reading published setlists and watching crappy iPhone videos on you tube. I'm sorry my friend but you appear to be the naive one here : /

Brutal kid

The clean version of kill the dj was for radio which cant play CUSS words there for censored Longview was also censored...

So Billie has a silver guitar really?? Who gives a fuck bout a guitar color... OH MY GOD BILLIE HAS A SPARKLY GUITAR HE SOLD OUT FUCK GREEN DAY....

Aa far as sellong out if you want to get technical every band that starts indie then signs to a major could be seen as sell outs it's really not that big of a deal if they are or are not sell outs if you base your values ftom a rock band then you may re valuate your life...

If they did a big arena show and only played album cuts and ignored the radio songs you are bitching about they'd lose money... touring is where Green Day makes the majority of thier money...

And the mike dirnt christie road comments were him joking around he wasn't being serious...
