AngelBlue_ Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 That's interesting that he got to talk a bit with her I'd like to have been a fly on the wall for that conversation yes he said she is married and has children now that's an incredible story I think...and she must have had a huge impact on Billie of course
Anja Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 What's the deal with that book? As far as I've heard it isn't an "official" release, but does this Marc Spitz have some inside resources? I want to read it if the guy is legit, and the book shows some in-depth research and isn't just based on things we all can get a hold of. As far as I know, Green Day co-wrote the book which is why it's a lot more authentic than most books written on the band. Maria Louise Fiatarone was a woman who owned a music store in Berkeley when Billie was a kid. When he was 4 years old, she and her husband saw his talent and they made him sing a song, Look For Love, and recorded it. She then 'interviewed' him. The woman who says 'Billie Joe! it certainly is exciting....' at the beginning of the song is Maria herself. He probably never saw her after he left Berkeley..hence the line 'And nobody knows where Maria went' She's probably just a character that Billie made up for the storyline of 21st Century Breakdwon She still works there actually. Such a sweet person she is. And the store is in Pinole btw, not Berkeley. And that little interview is actually on the A-Side of the "Look for love" LP. That's where it comes from.
greenday_jlb Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 yes he said she is married and has children now that's an incredible story I think...and she must have had a huge impact on Billie of course Yeah that's for sure, I think it's great the way that his past comes up in songs quite often, adrienne is so cool about it to, it's good that they can have that openness in their relationship, if I ever mention my ex my other half erupts, yet he doesn't mind me obsessing over billie joe, bizarre.

Probably because he knows that Billie is out of reach for you
greenday_jlb Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Probably because he knows that Billie is out of reach for you Yeah in reality, but my mind, that's a different story lol
PanicAttack! Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Sometimes I think these names initially come up in songs because they sound catchy, like Ashley.
carriedaway Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 I wonder what adrienne thinks about 'lady cobra'? That kind of stuff doesn't seem to bother her.
karma1215 Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Billie has a thing for Kathleen Hanna... hence the Pinhead Gunpowder song Kathleen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFbdR4UYmUw
Iop Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 i'm like 99% sure billie didn't write that song. i wouldn't be surprised if he did have a thing for her though because she's amazing You're right. "Kathleen" was actually written by Aaron Cometbus. (It's said in the booklet of the "Shoot the Moon EP" by PG.) Anyone knows who "Juliana Homicide" is?
WhiteTim Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Anyone knows who "Juliana Homicide" is? a charector on the show Homicide (which spawned the great Law & Order series)
pdx2ord Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 It's fuck time mentions Amanda too, she must have had an impact on billie joe Every man I know remembers vividly the first woman who broke his heart.
Chelsee Angevine Posted April 8, 2013 Author Posted April 8, 2013 Wow, my first thread a hit. These are really interesting, guys! I wish you could all write me notes with every song on their albums. I love knowing the meaning behind them! I wish I could meet this Amanda...
greenday_jlb Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Every man I know remembers vividly the first woman who broke his heart. Yep that's for sureI think adrienne is really cool the way it doesn't bother her, mind you like church on Sunday says "I'm not gonna state that yesterday never was" that's a really good outlook to have, we all have pasts no matter how badly relationships end, they always leave a slight impact on your life, my bf hates me mentioning my ex and I think it's silly, I ended relationships because I didn't want them anymore, but I can't pretend they didn't happen though even though I wish now some of them hadn't. Lol
Jhei Morisato Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Whoa!! How did you know that about Amanda/Whatsername? Crazy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrHm0YXfS6Y Billie Joe said.
November's Storms Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Made a list out of interest. I'm a bit rusty with the lyrics of "Misery" but I'm sure there's another name he references. To be honest, I thought the list was longer than that! It feels like he sings about these female characters so much more than he does… Unless I'm interpreting the songs around the references to be about those women, too. Especially in American Idiot. He references Virginia and I'm pretty sure there's another girl. Been a while since I've heard that song. About to go listen now I only recently listened to Ashley properly, and I love it now. I had that very same situation with a girl whose name also began with A and it's nice to know it can happen to all of us

There are also Sally, Ruby and Marie in FBHT songs.
TheSonOfStJimmy Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Does anyone know any more about Olivia? I always wanted to know who that was

pdx2ord Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Made a list out of interest. The Judge's Daughter Adrienne/80/Sweet 16 Haushinka Maria Amanda/She's a Rebel/Extraordinary Girl/Whatsername Gloria/Little Girl Ashley Lady Cobra/Nightlife Amy Winehouse/Amy Drama Queen - ??? Juliana Homicide I'm a bit rusty with the lyrics of "Misery" but I'm sure there's another name he references. To be honest, I thought the list was longer than that! Some more. If i am remembering his history-of-GD tweets and recent interviews correctly Amanda is also "She" Razorbacks was written about/for a girl they met on tour Westbound Sign, When It's Time, and Last Night on Earth for Adie Girl called Kill in BSB ...and I have so many hair brained theories about other songs, but no confirmation
HaushinkaSins Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Whoa!! How did you know that about Amanda/Whatsername? Crazy! billie tweeted that fact too
Sarasaurus Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Did anyone in this thread wonder who the heck Drama Queen is yet ...? I've had a few discussion with people where we indulged in the writings of Mike and Tre and speculated that Drama Queen could potentially be written/influenced by them. Mike has Estella, Tre has Ramona, but Billie hasn't got any daughters. We decided if it was written/influenced by either Mike or Tre, that the more probably answer would be Tre, considering Ramon is from New York and there's that line "New York to San Fransisco" Of course, that's all banter and speculation.

It was written about Lohan and the people like Lohan at least what Billie said in that mag when it was supposed to be on 21st
