Nemo. Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 It's a hint to the new superband they're creating with Nickelback. The members of Nickelback are: Chad Kroeger, Ryan Peake, Mike Kroeger, Daniel Adair. Take a look at their first names.. Which letters of the alphabet are they? C, R, M and D... Which are letters 3, 23, 18 and 4 respectively. Add those numbers up.. Except for the two small ones. Because you're taking away two small bands to form a bigger one. Now.. 13 + 18 - 4 - 3 = 24. And the 24th letter of the alphabet appears to be... That's right, the X. this is the best comment ever
X-Kid-X Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 The X's represent Billie's growing move toward the Christian faith, as mentioned in the Rolling Stone article.. As we all know, the cross is a symbol of Jesus. To avoid alienating his anti-religious/atheist fanbase, he made the crosses sideways slightly, making them X's. That sounds really weird when this trilogy's subjects are not really religion-friendly................ Do you have a proof for your point? I've read the full Rolling Stone article and there was nothing about what you said in there...
Anja Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 I wish it stood for straight edge. I like to pretend that it does, that's why I put the X button that came with the box set on my bag. I don't really like any of the SxE buttons they sell online and I thought this one looked much cooler and it's not as obvious.
PanicAttack! Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 It's something for the fan to notice and copy. Did it work? Definitely. I think the original idea must've come from the X'ed out bunny on Awesome As F**k, which may or may not be inspired by the asterisks over "fuck", or just be a cartoonish way of showing that it's wasted.

He said that he was pretty sure.
PanicAttack! Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 The lyrics in "Stay the Night" were originally "So won't you stay and count the X's on my eyes" instead of "So won't you stay and count the circles 'round my eyes". The X's can also represent being pissed drunk as seen on the Pink Bunny on Awesome as Fuck as drinking is another overlying theme of the trilogy. I'm assuming that just kind of crossed over to the whole theme of the albums but then they didn't even use the X lyrics in the recording. Of course, the reference to being an "X-kid" as well.... I think that's just a gimmick, never the actual lyrics at any point. He never sang it, and it's only in the book which I'm convinced was made after the recording process. I've always thought the X's were indicative of cartoon eyes when someone dies, they make their eyes into x's, like this. Their subtle way of letting us know that Green Day is dead? Tell me it isn't so.
Johnny Higher Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 X because do it with a P would be stupid. I'm out...
Jon Benjamin Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 It's a hint that Mike is dead. Tre actually replaced Mike and Tre is a hologram. Here's where the real twist comes in.. Tre is actually Billie's mom. DUN DUN DUUUUUHHH (dramatic soundfx)
Jet Taman Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 I think that's just a gimmick, never the actual lyrics at any point. He never sang it, and it's only in the book which I'm convinced was made after the recording process. Never say never. He actually sang those exact lyrics on February 30th and June 31st of last year.
cj_unoxx Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 I always thought like a lot of people said, that it's like the drunk bunny on Awesome as Fuck meaning that they're wasted, not dead.
X-Kid-X Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 My evidence is that I asked Tré's barber's nephew's schoolteacher's best friend's cousin's golf buddy. He said that he was pretty sure. Oh I didn't notice that YOU wrote that reply. I feel foolish now.

Brutal Lover 69 Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 I am pretty sure it means "Rage". Just like the two skulls in the 21st Century Breakdown, one with hearts over the eyes and one with X's. This represented Rage and Love which was a recurring theme in American Idiot.
Cob Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 The band are revealing their secret identities as pirates.
GDInsaniac Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 honestly, i think its just a punk thing to do. Trying to break away from the serious, political, rock opera era of their careers and get back to just playing for fun and reliving their roots as a punk band. It probably means nothing, but thats one way to look at it. Green day moving back towards the dookie days and just playing music without politics or anything like that tied into their music and playing because they love it. Good ol fashioned AWESOME Green Day!
Strayheart1219 Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 I never thought the x had any kind of significant to it. I didn't know the X's could have so many meanings till I read this thread. Wow.
