Well, I think I'm going to the same show as you man...

(Fairfax - VA, right?)

What if we started a chant or an attention-getting "hey-oh, look at this billie joe!" from within the line as we're waiting to get in? You could hold the replica above the rest of the crowd and maybe get their attention.

I guess that would only work if they were walking around near us... but its the principle of the thing. We should get the whole crowd involved!

Great idea!

In fact I'll have the guitar tuned too so we can do some sing-alongs before the show too :)

youre intentions are all of good nature, so i have this gut feeling that its gonna happen for you <3 if you were coming to the brooklyn show i'd try my best to help you out. but honestly, my advice is to get the support of those on line with you.

the bigger the group, the bigger the chance <3

Thanks for all the advice and the well wishes.

I'm leaving in about an hour for the Philly show.

I hope it all works out the way I have it planned in my head...

Billie and Tre both came out by their buses after the Rochester show so I hope if you didn't get it into the venue that you hung around afterwards.

Well, everybody, just like the other book full of stories I have, Wednesday and Thursday will be another chapter in my book that I will have to add on. I'll give you the short version....

I arrived in Philly with the 94 version and got lots of compliments from people in line. Saw lots of friends from the GDC that I've never actually "met" but we all seem to know each other which is awesome. I even had a few people tell me, "Hey! I bought a guitar from you!" People were taking pictures of themselves with it and all which was cool, but there was lots of concern if it could be brought in.

Rules seemed to be pretty strict about what you could bring in--no cameras, no studded belts, etc. I walked around the venue and chatted up with several security guards. I was referred to the main lobby where the head of security told me that "The band is not accepting any gifts". I was then planning on just playing dumb and trying anyway and maybe giving them some sob story to let me in with it.

I asked another security guard as we were waiting about it and he said he'd go ask. When he came back he asked me, "Is it a gift?" I wasn't sure how to answer since I was told no gifts were allowed so I straight up said to him "What's the answer I need to say to let me in with this?" and he said "If it's a gift, then you can take it in, but they are taking ALL gifts into a separate room and then they will be given to the band after the show".

Well, it's a chance I had to take. It was that or nothing. I asked him what his boss's name was and he said "Lee Green".

I quick tore a page out of my book, "My Green Days:the story of a fan & a band" which I was also planning on giving to Billie, and wrote a quick note to him explaining that I wanted him to give it to some kid that night, etc. etc...

So as we entered, security was IMMEDIATELY on me about "NO MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS ALLOWED!" I said it was a gift for the band. They said "NO! Absolutely not!"

I responded with, "I spoke with Lee Green and he told me that as long it was a gift I could bring it in". They told me to go to the side and wait. My 6 hour wait in line was disappearing as people were pouring in. Finally, security came and told me that it would go in the Management Office and be given to the band afterwards. It was my only choice. I don't know if it ever got to him or not.

When I got on the floor, I found myself in about 3rd row and as people pushed forward, I found myself against the barricade. I was holding my book up in my hand not so much to get his attention, but just kind of holding it not really knowing what I was going to do--throw it to him? toss it up onstage randomly? Just show him??

During the first song he came over and it caught his eye and I could see that he was reading the cover which is in big bold green letters. He kept on playing and I just had it in my hand.

And then at the beginning of Boulevard of Broken Dreams he came right over to me and I couldn't really tell what he was saying, but he was pointing at me and the book. I'd like to think that I said, "This is a book I wrote that covers the last 20 years of my life and how your band has changed me and made me who I am today", but in reality I'm pretty sure I said, "This! Me! Book! I wrote! You! Band! Me! You!" He told me to toss it up onstage. He looked at it and I wasn't sure if he was going to throw it in the audience, rip it up, or what.

Instead, he knelt down held it out, and let me take a picture of him holding it. I'm not the most excitable guy, I'm a pretty laid back stoner, but I jumped up and down like a 13 year old girl at a Justin Bieber concert . He then took the book and put it on top of the speakers. I was getting many congra s from the people around me and I heard some of my line friends screaming my name.

This was perfect for me!

The next night in Fairfax, I had a feeling I'd have to go through the same thing with the guitar so I didn't even bother. I brought another book just so he could see that I had been there for 2 nights in a row, but all I got was a head nod and a smile, but I was satisfied.

In fact, people who were in Philly told me that hat Billie was trying to say to me was, "I know this! I know about this book!"
Last summer I gave Joey Armstrong a book and a Blue Replica but I never knew if it got to Billie. Maybe it had after all...

So I have another chapter to add in my book now and the above picture will be blown up to poster size and framed on my wall.
At the beginning of this YouTube clip, you can see him taking the book.

Dude, you can tell by the video that he's placing it in safekeeping and he probably flipped through it on the tour bus after the show. Nice work. I hope you put your contact info in the book. If so, I wouldn't rule out a note or an acknowledgment (or maybe even an instagram prop) at some point. Either way, well done...glad you could connect with Billie like this!
