frenchfryjordan Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 From a few years ago: Burnout Present: Nuclear Family or 99 Revolutions
may10 Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 I agree with maurokanvaz, Scattered is an excellent opener I love that song and the album and somehow Billie Joe's voice is just perfect! Also its a low pitch song for him, good for a "warmup" to start the concert
CocaColaX Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 I think 99 Revolutions is a good opener, which is probably why they decided to use it for the tour name, it is one of my favourites anyway, and I like the way it runs into Know Your Enemy (which I think is a great live track - it really gets the crowd going, I think , can't see why it is disliked so much - sorry Andres !!!) My favourite Youtube video is the one from 11th March, Arizona, where Billie laughs when he forgets the lyrics.... Although I did really like the way the 21CB tour opened also, that really did get the crowd going, which I saw twice firsthand. I just wish they were playing a few more of the new tracks in this tour, but there's a long way to go yet.
HeroesandCons86 Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Nuclear Family, 99 Revolutions,American Idiot, Welcome to Paradise, 21st Century Breakdown, Paper Lanterns, 86, Scattered, Nice Guys Finish Last, Lady Cobra, Let Yourself Go, Loss of Control, Maria, Jaded.
K!ngForADay Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Nice Guys Finish Last would be great because it's so upbeat and it would get the fans going crazy. Another good one would be 21CB, as it's such a powerful song and would get everyone in the mood! Don't totally agree with the hype for Welcome to Paradise, they have better they could use. Even Castaway or One For the Razorbacks wouldn't be too bad an opener..
KyleTheManwhore Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 I think they should do See You Tonight then Dirty Rotten Bastards to open the show, let the last chord on DRB echo for a while then go into Nuclear Family
Isabel Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 I remember thinking that American Idiot was the best opening song when I saw them the first time in 2005. Hearing it as an opening song is so much better than in the encore. They really went all out on the 'hey-ho' and got everyone so pumped up. But then when I saw them again in 2009/2010 I realised that nothing could ever beat Song Of The Century/21st Century Breakdown. Can't even explain how amazing that was live - at both outdoor and indoor shows. Although, I've only seen them once since then and Welcome To Paradise was the opener - don't get me wrong, it was absolutely amazing. But nothing beats SOTC and 21st CB as an opener in my opinion. That build up was amazing, such incredible exhiliration.
cherrybomb Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 I was only on one gig, but they playes 21stCB as opener and it felt AMAZING. Though Nice Guys Finish Last or American Idiot or any other super energetic songs are great too.
Punx89 Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Welcome to Paradise and Nuclear Family are great as openers.99 revs is great too
PanicAttack! Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 21st Century Breakdown was the most ideal opener they have had, but it was only relevant to that tour, but it was the best opener nonetheless. American idiot was obvious on the 2004-05 tour, but it wasn't a great opener. Even though I didn't see them on that tour I can tell from the various recordings, and the fact that it is still used in kind of the same way now, only in the beginning of the encore, and it doesn't do it for me. I bet Jesus of Surburbia would've made a killer opener on the American Idiot tour. 99 Revolutions is good aswell, I'm glad they switched it out with Welcome To Paradise, it's was a good opener back in the Dookie days, and it still is for club shows in between tours. But when it comes to a full fledged tour they should try to use a new song, and I'm glad they did. If the Trilogy tour had taken a different turn See You Tonight/Fuck Time or Nuclear Family would've been good contestants for iUno! and iDos! respectively, the latter would be further ideal because it's the first song on the first album and it has a ten-to-one countdown at the end which I think would've worked well with the crowd. Nice Guys Finish Last was the primary opener on the Nimrod tour, yes? From what I've seen that wasn't a good opener, it lacked some build-up, which I think is what makes a good opening song. I don't remember which song they opened with on the Insomniac tour, but my guess would be Armatage Shanks, but I've always listened to Panic Song and imagined the band building it up as they walked on stage. I don't get why it isn't the opening song on the album itself either. Overall I think Green Day has done pretty well on this matter, picking out a song that gets the crowd pumping and jumping. They're just pretty good at making an entrance i general. Also, I can tell from personal experience that All By Myself is neither a good or bad opener. It's a strange opener.
Alan86 Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Letterbomb would be a pretty cool opener for a club show.
Guest Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 I would love American Idiot to be an opener again but considering it spent an entire tour as an opener, that won't happen any time soon But I think See You Tonight could play with all the lights off, while the band come on stage, get there shit ready, then blast into Nuclear Family when the lights come on. That'd be fucking epic.
GuitarPunk94 Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 ive been at three GD shows..they opened with 'Song of the Century/21stCB' and one time with 'Blitzkrieg Bop/Welcome To Paradies'...in my eyes the 21stCB opening is very emotional and let you get strong feelings, the opening with WTP is just kick-ass and makes you go crazy from the first second..i enjoyed WTP more
DookieLukie Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Opening with Song of the Century with the lights off and then blasting into 21CB was awesome. Incredible and emotional. But I have to say, 99 Revolutions was a pretty awesome opener too. People hate on it a lot but it's a great live song. Also, they have this weird funky music that plays before the first drum of 99 Revs. Back in American Idiot times, I loved the fancy music that played as they walked on stage. It was great.
fatherotti Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Welcome to Paradise. More recently its been the opener for the secret shows. Would love to have it on the main tour.
