Overjoyyed Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 If I never saw them live I would be extremely sad that Good Riddance, WMUWSE, and 21 guns are not on the setlist . but since I saw 2 GD concerts where these songs were sung I don't mind the change ( as long as SHE is there). And brutal love is a far better song than Good Riddance even though it would be weird not hearing it at the end anymore.
Hermione Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 It's too long and super overplayed. They could play 2-3 more songs instead of it. I disagree, and I'd rather see one long super fun song than three regular songs
Tubbie Head Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 It's too long and super overplayed. They could play 2-3 more songs instead of it. no :angry
heart on a noose Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Jup, they should definitely leave King for a day on setlist! My heart is half broken since it's look like they won't be playing Good Riddance anymore, and I must experience awesomeness during King for a day!
raul.stanciu Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I'd rather they played more songs off the trilogy.
Jean Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I think if they could just cut back on 90% of the Hey Ho's and they could stick some other songs in there, it would be great. Maybe trim KFAD/Shout or really some other songs that get repetitive (like Know Your Enemy).
Harry Potter. Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I think the guys themselves might be sick of playing Good Riddance at every show by now. We wouldn't want them playing it if they wouldn't want to play it.
GaxnorianLiberator Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Stereotypes are hardly ever correct. Am I right in assuming that those people were using the terms goth and emo in a derogatory fashion? Those people don't what they are talking about. Anyone with an ounce of musical knoweldge would know that there's nothing emo or goth about those two songs or any other Green Day song for that matter. Ok since I don't remember writing that message I'm not going to try to argue. I am running on 5 hours of sleep my norm is 10-12 hours of sleep so my brain is like *Pfffffttttttt*
X-Kid-X Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 If I hear the phrase "Stop when the red lights flash" one more time, I'm going to hurt someone The trilogy seems to be centered around that phrase, just like 21st Century Breakdown was centered around fire/light. Yeah, I can't understand this one. That's the song EVERYONE knows. Umm... I'm sorry dude, but the trilogy IS centered around that phrase. That's the whole concept that binds the songs... and it's the reason that the phrase appears in each of the albums (in different variations). So.. with all due respect - DEAL WITH IT.
Joey Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I think the guys themselves might be sick of playing Good Riddance at every show by now. We wouldn't want them playing it if they wouldn't want to play it. But Mike and Tre have burned precisely zero calories performing that song over the last 15 years...
Harry Potter. Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 But Mike and Tre have burned precisely zero calories performing that song over the last 15 years... And that's the thing. Maybe they felt excluded or something.
Brother Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Although I don't care much about Good Riddance, It's kind of sad that there are no Nimrod songs in the setlist any more. They played King for a Day at the Moline Concert last night.
ThisIsNotNora Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I can't believe they played 99 revolutions and not Good Riddance.
Fuzz Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I'm fine with this change. brutal love is a great song, and I welcome any kind of change to the set-list.
Saint of Suburbia Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Anyone find it a nit ironic that they play the last (real) song on TRE first and the first song last on this tour? No real relevance but I noticed
That Dude Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 They've also abandoned good riddance. Now that really pains me. Well, they did play it at every show for the last 16 years. It was the first song I heard by Green Day and got me into rock, punk and everything I listen to today (mostly alternative rock). So maybe it is time to let it go. Or maybe it could be played at earlier in the set???? I do love that Brutal Love has been the closer. That's awesome. They just have so many good songs, I'm always sort of dissapointed when I see the setlist because there's just so, so many songs I want them to play. If it were up to me, their show would be five hours long and have at least 3 encores.
Justin Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 . I do hope Minority disappears during this tour as well, honestly, to make room for a new closer. THIS. My only problem with Minority being dropped would be zero songs from Warning. I'd happily take Waiting each night though. So glad i got to hear that song.
HolyHandGrenade Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 THIS. My only problem with Minority being dropped would be zero songs from Warning. I'd happily take Waiting each night though. So glad i got to hear that song. Church on Sunday, Fashion Victim, or Castaway would be amazing.
musso_kn Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Well, they did play it at every show for the last 16 years. If it were up to me, their show would be five hours long and have at least 3 encores. In an ideal world, they'd have time to play every album each night the thing is, I've never seen Green Day live, so I want to have the chance of hearing all their singles, including Good Riddance and also Minority, in concert. There's something really universal about these songs that makes them so personal in a stadium setting from what I can tell by live clips. I don't think some people on here who've seen Green Day multiple times realise what that means to newbies like myself.
TomoYoMomo Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I think thats a good thing, I really hate 21 Guns, I'm guessing the bands bored of it and I cant really blame them.
scottrowan200 Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I can't understand why ( also glad) to see the acoustic encore gone. AI and 21cb your were big productions and the set flowed really well With the visuals ect and the encore with Billie on the walkway at end was a great show end. But now with the stripped down stage production and new album attitude idrather see shows like the secret ones with a bunch of random and new song and obv the main hits AI. Basket case. Ect I think they should / about time to drop JOS ( you could like about 4 trilogy tracks in that space ) same with king for a day. Don't see the need for brain stew to be there now also
21 guns Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 They dropped good riddance?!? but now what will I use as an excuse to cry at the end of the concert?!? I don't think lazy bones is too close to home for billie to play... Tonnes of his sons are super personal/autobiographical. I mean, he played WMUWSE on the 30th anniversary of his father's death... I think he can handle it. Ect I think they should / about time to drop JOS ( you could like about 4 trilogy tracks in that space ) same with king for a day. Don't see the need for brain stew to be there now also No way should they drop JOS or brain stew! Definitely agree for king for a day though. I think they only use it because it's a funny-sounding song to start their medley with - personally I'd rather they went straight to shout/stand by me/ some other covers. Tbh I don't mind if they don't play much stuff from 21CB but I really want to hear the trilogy material live! Edit- I realise the irony of my saying this when my username is '21 guns'.. Great song, don't get me wrong, but it goes on a bit live
Dandy-Namida Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I was around 5/6 when Warning came out, and that was also one of my first cds I ever got. I'd love to have more songs from Warning. Can you imagine if they played Castaway or Blood, Sex, and Booze live? It'd be great. Currently, I'm not very pleased with the newer setlist. It's too safe. I'd say put in 2-3 more trilogy songs in, and sprinkle in 3-4 older deep cuts. On the subject of 21 Guns, the live version is incredible. There is so much emotion in that song that is shown live, that it would be something I'd like to experience. Eh, I kinda agree with their decision to replace Good Riddance with Brutal Love. Brutal Love is new, shows immense emotion/passion, and is a bit more pleasing to hear than the one song that's been on repeat for 10+ years or so.
watchmefade92 Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 But Mike and Tre have burned precisely zero calories performing that song over the last 15 years... A full band version of Good Riddance would be fun.
AfterShock Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Honestly I think it might be hard for Billie to play a lot of the trilogy, IMO. It obviously wasn't the best time in his life when he wrote a lot of the songs. Anywho, I was SHOCKED not to hear Let Yourself Go at my show. I figured that'd be a staple. I really wish they had played Good Riddance too :/ However, I don't think Holiday should EVER be dropped, like some people said. That song has so much energy and it's just a classic - it needs to stay!
