Snows Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Are you saying you want Green Day to be a bunch of 40 year old men addicted to cocaine? Because that's what happened with The Ramones, and let me tell you, that did not work out well. Plus, they have families, you know? They're getting older. As punk rock "fuck the system, throw shit" as I am, I think it's perfectly okay that they're calming down a bit. I'd rather have 'em around for a longer period of time than have them addicted to shit, burn out, and die at 42. ^^^^^all this^^^^

Well, the Ramones didn't really go out with that "bang" that they wanted, you're right. I don't want my favorite band to be addicted to drugs, no, but it was fun when they were.
Eva Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Well, the Ramones didn't really go out with that "bang" that they wanted, you're right They didn't get anything they wanted until most of 'em were dead, to be honest.

Joey & Johnny quit drugs before their careers took off, and died of cancer, cocaine had nothing to do with anything. Dee-Dee was the only one who died a drug related death
PursuitOfEpicness Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Thank you. It really puzzles me when people say that their first two albums are the best because they're most punk or something and it's like um....no they sound like their later stuff...it still has melody and catchy vocals. There was still some pop influence in their music so I don't get the big deal. Yeah that's what i was thinking earlier when i was listening to 1039 smooth today! I was like you know it's funny how people think this and Kerplunk are the most ""punk" albums. I don't really agree with that. Just because they were on an indie label doesn't mean it's more punk sounding. I think by far the most punk sounding would be insomniac. But it all depends on your definition of punk to go beyond what album of their's is the most punk beyond the sound. Honestly i'm with you, their first two are more poppy and sound like the jonas brother's of the rest of their albums NOT BASHING ON THEM THOUGH BECAUSE I LITERALLY LISTEN TO THEM ALL THE TIME AND LOVE THEM. Just want to put that out there lol.

The Green One Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 You can't expect 40 year olds to act like teenagers. It would just look forced and stupid IMO.
Eva Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Joey & Johnny quit drugs before their careers took off, and died of cancer, cocaine had nothing to do with anything. Dee-Dee was the only one who died a drug related death Joey had a cocaine addiction throughout the first half of The Ramones career, at the very least. Don't argue with me about The Ramones. I've read many biographies, including one by Joey Ramone's brother, Mickey Leigh. I know my shit. Plus, having an extreme addiction can still impact one's future health and problems.

"Are you saying you want Green Day to be a bunch of 40 year old men addicted to cocaine? Because that's what happened with The Ramones, and let me tell you, that did not work out well." I may have interpreted what you said wrong. From what you said, the ramones broke up because they were on drugs. And I just responded saying thats false. I'm not trying to argue or anything, just responded to what I saw.
Eva Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Either way, you made it seem like they disbanded because of drugs. "Are you saying you want Green Day to be a bunch of 40 year old men addicted to cocaine? Because that's what happened with The Ramones, and let me tell you, that did not work out well." I'm not trying to argue with you about it, I just responded to that part of what you said which I guess I read wrong, and believed to be false. Ah, okay. I didn't word my post very well, either. That's on me. I'm just saying that having extreme drug use and/or addiction within the band could cause tension between the members and their families, as well as have an impact on their performances and musical production.
