musso_kn Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Seriously dude? Seriously? Why don't you actually explain yourself? It's known that as an album Warning, for example, was supposed to be heavily influences by the Kinks, Elvis Costello and Bob Dylan. The biggest indicator is the music. If Green Day were purely influenced by the bands that you mentioned they'd have a far more basic and aggressive sound. As it stands, the punk influence on their music is and always has been very strong, bur there's no denying the presence of all those sugary hooks and melodies.

Those are more like classic bands, not pop to me.
Liam Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I didn't see a thread about this and I had like loads of questions about this and I didn't know if I should post them all in the Q&A thread or whatever... So yeah talk about old school Green Day here and I had like a few questions so I'll post them here if anyone could answer them. When was the Paint factory concert ? Because on youtube it says the 11th of february 1989 but that seems pretty unlikely because people already knew the words to the songs and as well as that it's in Florida and Green Day are from California and it wouldn't make sense for them to play over there for one of there earliest concerts. What is the earliest Green Day footage ? On Setlist.fm on the 26th of November 1988 it says that Green Day played a show at 924 Gilman Street and on youtube there are recordings of the set list but it says that it is from a concert on the 11th of February 1989 (The date Green Day "apparently" played at the paint factory as well ) If these are really recordings from 1988 would that be the earliest Green Day footage or recordings ? As Tman said, the Paint Factory show date is unknown, it could have been lately 1989 but its more than likely to have been in 1990. The oldest known footage was the 2nd June 1989 at Community Center in Davis, California. The oldest known recording though is 11th February 1989 at Gilman St
K!ngForADay Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I love both styles of Green Day, it's so hard to choose which I prefer...Nimrod and Warning are my two favorite albums but American Idiot is a masterpiece! I prefer their old attitude/look but music wise I can't decide.. By the way, what is the Jennifer thing that's mentioned? Unreleased song?
Snows Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 i don't consider those pop Anyone who grew up in the '00s will agree that there is a huge difference between the beatles and today's poo music. Those are more like classic bands, not pop to me. I guess the difference is in their moment The Beatles were considered as pop-rock. In the '00 Britney Spears was considered pop. It's a huuuuge difference in the styles on this "pop" music.
ThibautDookie Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I like both : I like the new Green Day because they are back and they are experimenting a lot of stuff. But, I would say that I prefer the old Green Day because they had that punk attitude straight attached to them, and i would have loved to see them live with some members here like Tman684 and Brane that look like pure fan of them in 1994-1996 haha !

The pop music today isn't going to influence Green Day anyway: but 'classic' bands such as The Beatles or the Kinks, who fulfilled their role as the 'pop' groups available to our boys as they were growing up, have. The other artists I mentioned aren't exactly pop, true, but they're still very melodic and easy to listen to.

The other artists I mentioned aren't exactly pop, true, but they're still very melodic and easy to listen to. Well, I guess you're right there. Not listening to either of those bands, I've always considered them as more of 60s rock, not really pop (I didn't know they had pop then, but whatever )I like both : I like the new Green Day because they are back and they are experimenting a lot of stuff. Does Green Day spray paint "fuck" on record stores anymore? Does Green Day still play pranks on their roadies, piss outside at festivals, brand people, or get in fights with other bands? Does Green Day yell "fuck you" at the crowd anymore? Do they trash talk other bands anymore? Shit off balconies? Does Billie Joe say "Fuck it, I'm probably never playing here again, so I'm gonna play fucking naked" anymore? Does Green Day still talk about weed, write trippy baselines on acid, write entire songs about methamphetamine? Fuck prescription drugs, anyone can get those. iHeart was the one of the things that made me realize Green Day still has some of the good old days left in them. I wish Green Day wasn't 40 so that they could put on a real oldschool show.

Snows Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Does Green Day still teenagers anymore? no. Their lifes had changed, they have families and kids. And prescription drugs can be dangerous, believe me.
Todd Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 You're completely right dude ! Fuck, i will never see Green Day at their peak of their career. 1994-1998 I'm already sad enough today... but now I just want to make a scrap book of old Green Day and cry over it Does Green Day still teenagers anymore? no. Their lifes had changed, they have families and kids. And prescription drugs can be dangerous, believe me. Yes, but pretty much anyone can get them. They don't have that hardcore "rock and roll" associated with them like cocaine or acid
ThibautDookie Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I'm already sad enough today... but now I just want to make a scrap book of old Green Day and cry over it And, that's why I completely enjoy to share everything that I have for all the new fans of Green Day to see that Green Day were very famous in the 90's. I would have loved to see Green Day live in a intimate venue like in the Arapaho show from 1994 in Paris or the thing that you really want to see, i think Tman684, the famous MTV's Hanging Out show from 1996 with more than 10 songs.

djrossstar Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 TMan and I are old I have seen every tour since Dookie!
Todd Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 TMan and I are old I have seen every tour since Dookie! Lol, I'm 15

PLEASE dont think im starting an argument or anything because for he love of god every little thing on here turns into something more lol. granted i do get what you're saying, i just dont think it'd be okay if they were over 40 and still shitting off balconies lol
Ryan Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 You're completely right dude ! Fuck, i will never see Green Day at their peak of their career. 1994-1998 Dude...this is, of course, my opinion, but I think that Green Day ARE at the peak of their career right now. Especially in terms of their skill as musicians and song writers. Like djrosstar, I am an old(er) fan that has been following them since Insomniac. Every show I see them, I am more amazed at how tight and on their game they are. They don't have to be "fuck the world" punks in order to be good. They are MUCH better musicans now, MUCH more talented song writers, and they are more pure rock and roll now than they ever have been in terms of their sound. The trilogy is my favorite thing they have ever done in terms of overall sound and I absolutely can't wait to see what they do next.

I think these would be the best classic shows to go to: -Any Gilman Street from 1990: They were still fresh, but in 1990 they had a fanbase -England 1991: Great setlist, large crowd, their infamous Christmas play, first time in Europe -Cattle Club 1994: DJRossstar know this one! First show of the Dookie tour, small venue, probably played most of Dookie, probably the last show they did before they became overwhelmed with the amount of fans they had -Woodstock 1994: Classic. "Don't smoke the brown weed!" yells Billie. Mud Fight. Mike's hurt. All over magazines the next week. -Oakland Coliseum 1995: They played the songs really fast with great enthusiasm -Fillmore 1997: much enthusiasm, great setlisti kinda dont agree with this. not trying to be rude or anything. i just feel like the guys grew up. thats all. PLEASE dont think im starting an argument or anything because for he love of god every little thing on here turns into something more lol. granted i do get what you're saying, i just dont think it'd be okay if they were over 40 and still shitting off balconies lol Well yeah, they grew up. That's what sucks about it. Old people are boring and they always forget to take their pills before dinner.

Todd Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Are you saying that GD are old boring people?? Omg...They're not old, you are too young! I'm a pessimist. Billie's kids are almost adults. I bet you $20 Billie will have grandchildren in 7 years
Snows Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I'm a pessimist. Billie's kids are almost adults. I bet you $20 Billie will have grandchildren in 7 years Surely...but it's not something bad. He will be so, so happy, and that's enough for me.
Todd Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Surely...but it's not something bad. He will be so, so happy, and that's enough for me. I guess... but the older Billie gets, the sooner his mom is to dying... and that'll make him sad. Damn, I really am a pessimist
musso_kn Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I'm a pessimist. Billie's kids are almost adults. I bet you $20 Billie will have grandchildren in 7 years This community is going to go abso-fucking-lutely mental when that happens. Just think of all the instagram photos, tweets, messages, updates and us girlies creaming ourselves (in a not so creepy, but more maternal way) over a new arrival in the Green Day family. I can't wait.
Snows Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I guess... but the older Billie gets, the sooner his mom is to dying... and that'll make him sad. Damn, I really am a pessimist Omg, don't think about that! And if she passes away, a lot of songs only for her. And we will can hear them.
Eva Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Yes, but pretty much anyone can get them. They don't have that hardcore "rock and roll" associated with them like cocaine or acid Are you saying you want Green Day to be a bunch of 40 year old men addicted to cocaine? Because that's what happened with The Ramones, and let me tell you, that did not work out well. Plus, they have families, you know? They're getting older. As punk rock "fuck the system, throw shit" as I am, I think it's perfectly okay that they're calming down a bit. I'd rather have 'em around for a longer period of time than have them addicted to shit, burn out, and die at 42.
