Where did the idea of the trilogy come from?

I really like the idea of a trilogy. That was a big risk. But what is really disappointing are the names. UNO DOS TRE. They could have find something better.

I think the names are good, they were supposed to be funny and to show that they don't take themselves too seriously. And also these names are very easy to remember

They wanted to advertise for Angry Birds but I don't think it got as huge as they'd hoped.

Billie and Mike are the joke, and Tre is the punch line

I think it's fun to see the evolution of the band throughout their career. Nimrod had the experimental, acoustic 'Good Riddance' which then led to many acoustic songs on Warning. Warning had 'Misery' which was their first sort of multiple stories in one song approach, which in turn led to American Idiot. American Idiot and the rock opera approach led to more political songs on 21st Century Breakdown and I think the three acts on 21CB may have been helped them branch out to three albums.

Hope that made sense. Just a way I like to look at their evolution.
