Something that sounds like The Clash would be lovely, but unfortunately I don't think they have the talent for it.

Very different talent sets. Green Day are masters of pop rock, The Clash were masters of alt-punk. But I suppose what I meant was not 'sounds like The Clash' per se, because that would be shite - perhaps just a Clash-like vibe. Less poppy, more gritty.

Something like The Clash's selftitled would be sublime.

it's too early to predict...but the got loads of song they didn't include in the trilogy...but as always the album will be likely inspired by the bands experience in recent years..specially billie's rehab..and...if we're lucky he would make a character out of it...who know's ^_^

Metal :D

no seriously i would like to have sth like nimrod. but in fact i don't really care, I just hope it's not so soft like the triology.

In Bold: No. No they have not. At most they have touched on the very barest bones of those genres.

In Italics: No, no they have not at all, they just had a woman almost rapping over a rock groove.

Bold Italics: Would all be dreadful, dreadful ideas.

Seeing as RnB and Rock share the same heritage, and up until ~1970s were essentially different shades of the same coin, I would not mind them heading in that direction. Soulful, gritty blues rock a la Exile on Main St. A little Mowtown influence. Muddy Waters. That could work with their garage rock tenancies really, really well. Remember, true RnB is more The Miracles and Elvis than Usher or the like. If Green Day were to visit that sound - well within their listening rage looking at their influences - they could create something very cool.

Green Day going heavier? Fuck no. They aren't angry teenagers who get impressed my torn denim and posing with cigarettes and whisky shots.

I want them to record an acoustic album at some point.. Old or new songs, it doesn't really matter. I just love acoustic songs.

All of you guys insisting they should write an album resembling the Clash are mad. They should not try to emulate anyone so specifically at this point. Of course, they are naturally influenced by artists older than themselves, including- very much so - The Clash.

Yet, I do personally agree that they should go into the studio with a desire to experiment as much as possible and not let themselves be bound to pop punk as the basis for their music: their greatest downfall. They've dabbled in a lot of different sounds and need to fully immerse themselves now. They are not lacking in talent. They're a tight band, clearly have a good appreciation of lots of different music and Billie is a good songwriter, so there is no reason why he can't write experimental music while keeping it accessible.

It would result in purely adult, mature non mainstream success. They have survived surprisingly long for a band that has not departed too far from their roots - but has simply honed and refined their sound and format - because of their broad poppy appeal and ability to, lyrically, capture the zeitgeist. But they're 'elder statesmen' now. They don't need to be associated with that kind of commercialism anymore.

Kerplunk has been named as one of the 30 best indie albums ever by a poll.Basket was ranked as the 33rd best hard rock song of all time.Kill the DJ was nothing but Dance-Punk, as billie said.Bobd and wmuwse are alternative rock records my friends, so is 21 guns.Nightlife was pretty much hip hop for me :)

And why not?I think it shall be cool to see them do something like that.

I would like a album similar to a rock opera but with a sound of Dookie or Insomniac.

Posted

anything but a rock opera..

i think it's time to do another Insomniac.. an album without piano-driven ballads, with distorted guitar and that angry feeling

I think the new album should be like the AI, with the live sound of the trilogy. It would be perfect.

Kerplunk is indie on the basis that it wasn't major label, but it isn't indie music as in the genre. It's pop punk without big money behind it. The fact that is made a list somewhere means squat, genre-wise. Kill the DJ might be dance punk (which it aint, there is nothing punk about it, or dancy - it's just a rock song with a disco beat and a bit of groove) but that doesn't mean Green Day have had a stab at dance music. Bobd, 21 Guns and wmuwse are Arena Rock, through and through. Real Alt Rock is Janes Addiction, Smashing Pumpkins, Weezer, Suede - stuff like that. Ultimately what genre stuff is is irrelevant and petty, but if we're splitting hairs, I couldn't put anything Green Day has done in an Alternative Rock playlist unless we're speaking in the broadest of broad senses.

If we're going to talk about genres Green Day have experimented with then how on earth could you miss out folk? Granted, they haven't gone all out (which I criticised in an earlier post) but they have experimented with it more than any other genre, except for maybe piano/acoustic ballads. Plus, they've delivered folk better than they have done anything else.

an album of 14 songs, Nimrod to american idiot style song writing, but recorded in the vein of Stop Drop and Roll would be awesome. green day gone lo-fi (properly).

To be honest though I just want them to do something that is honest to what they want to do not what they think they should do. I didnt find alot 21st century breakdown and the trilogy very sincere. But thats just my opinion

I really could care less what it is.. I just want an album in 2014 fir the dookie/ai anniversery.

I swear to god this forum is full of some of the most ungrateful fans on earth. You bitch and moan about wanting a "12 song fast record" or "a record like Tré". You just got 3 "12 song albums", so please stop asking for that. And why would you want a record like Tré? One just came out like it, its fucking called TRÉ! "90's GD" blah blah..... I want a new Green Day. Like American Idiot, or even the trilogy. I dont want those albums again, i want them to constantly innovate and challenge themselves. Not just go backwards. If you want a record like Nimrod, then just listen to Nimrod.

its called UNO. Look it up

YES!! An acoustic album would be sweet! Maybe do what Foo Fighters did and do a double album, half rock half acoustic

and i love the trilogy, imo i'ts the best thing they released since Warning.. I just wish they record something as agressive as their 90's albuns with that kind of distortion on guitars

We are discussing album ideas. Why do people have to critise other people's opinions?

And if you really want to get into it then-

1)In His Highness Mr.Billie Joe Armstrong's own words-Kill the DJ is a 'four on the floor' dance song.

2)Warning has been classified as Indie too.Indie is indie, no metter it is a major label or minor label.I said green day have covered it.

3)Green Day is ranked 3 when it comes to number of songs that charted on US Billboard Alternative Rock charts. What do you mean arena rock?Weezer is power pop bro.You can't define Alternative Rock that easily.

American Idiot will not be a Reggae record just because YOU think so.

*Peace*

This is only ever going to be circular disagreements. Think what you want dude, think what you want. Ultimately music is whatever you want it to be.

Call me crazy but the more I think about it, the more I would't mind the next album being in the vein of Warning. In my heart, I'd love something that's all over the place in the way nimrod. was.

I think the ambition and sound of the rock operas would do them good but with the lyrical writing of unodostre. I'd love to see that.
