1039SweetChildren Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I'm so proud of Billie... This has be to so hard for him, but I can't stress how happy I am that he is taking the steps he needs to take in order to get where he needs to be. I think, in the long run, this process will give him the relief he always hoped for when taking pills and drinking till he couldn't see. That said, I'm a bit worried about the tour now. I really hope he is ready already. This has all happened so fast (even though the months have felt excruciating as an anxious fan). He has a fantastic support system though, so I hope that he doesn't ever feel too tempted to fall off the wagon.

I think the good thing is, he has friends (Mike, Tre, Jason, etc) that will support him the best they can. I still love Mike so much just for smashing his bass up on stage with Billie. They're such cool friends.
Punkfreak1414 Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I know this is far fetched and billie already basically answered it, but, considering he's already writing new material and he's already said he would love to do another rock opera, what do YOU think green days next album will be like or sound like? And when do you think they will hit the studio to record it? (:
happyXamp Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Let's ask that when they get towards the end of their tour. One thing at a time
stories and songs Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 You know, even though my logical side immediately understood why this was so, there was a big part of me that felt really weird about the fact that their manager told Billie to go to rehab; that he did it when there were no options left, that even after starting detox he didn't think it was totally necessary - that he reluctantly got sober. I was like wait, what? After continuing to go through such a self-destructive cycle that you described, how could you not realize how bad things had gotten? As someone who doesn't know anyone who has gone through addiction problems, I think I was romanticizing it in a way - that it must be just like television, where the person sees what their addiction is doing to them and chooses to stop on their own. I feel like at first, I was almost minimizing Billie's accomplishment because he didn't come to this conclusion on his own, and that it took a very public display of his problems for something to be done. But you know what? Honestly, all that shows is just how deep he was into this, how sick he really was. It sounds as though he was aware that he has had problems for years, but he just always thought he could take care of it on his own. Not to speculate, but just given some of the past things he's said, it sounded as though at times, he could reign himself in. But that kind of thing doesn't work longterm. He is amazing for accepting the advice and help of others and giving rehab a try, even when he wasn't convinced it was necessary at first. And then, to come out on the other side, looking back at that mindset realizing just how bad things were - that takes a lot of vulnerability, humility, and courage to admit. It is going to take a conscious effort every day the rest of his life not to fall back into bad habits. I look at myself, someone who is trying to be on a diet yet still can't resist eating bread whenever I get the chance, and I just... it takes such strong willpower to say no to something you crave. It takes, I imagine, 100x more willpower to say no to something that your entire being craves, that your body was addicted to. It doesn't matter why he got sober, or how that came to happen. He is doing something amazing by battling this sickness that so many people struggle with. Because, just like other addicts, he will always have it in him to want to drink. Every day that he fights that urge will continue to show how strong he is. I am very, very proud.

Nimrod99 Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I read the scans (thank you to whoever posted it), and it brought me close to tears. I do plan on buying it tomorrow. I can't even begin to imagine what he has gone through in terms of addiction. I do have some insight into anxiety and insomnia, although I'm sure my anxiety and insomia differs from his. It is something that I don't wish of my worst enemy. The feeling of "normalness" one minute, and then instant feeling of sheer panic the next and how your mind just won't shut up. Anyways, back to the topic. I wish Billie the best for the future, and I know he has the support of family and friends to help him along the way.
gdpony Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 "Morrison took it to another level, being a poet, elegantly wasted." .... loved this. And nice article, different from what I expected. Excited about the comeback.
Firecracker Lell Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Thanks a lot for the scans! And I just read it. It touched me a lot ( I cried! ). It was amazing. Billie is one of the best role models ever. He isn't like other celebrities who hide their flaws & try to look perfect! He is REAL. Nobody's perfect. He doesn't hide the dark sides of himself. He's so strong & well you guys have said everything I wanna say Btw, I had guessed that 80 doesn't drink! Yay I've always loved her ( I don't have problems with drinking! )
Firecracker Lell Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Billie said that he let us down, but I don't think so. He inspired us even more I feel much better after reading the interview.
Vic_Rattlehead Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 It worked! Here you go lovelies. Enjoy. SCANS: Thanks so much, this was great, and RS is pretty expensive <3
Heather. Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Bought this one. Damn magazines are as expensive as Starbucks these days. Worth it. Why? I think this interview confirms Green Day is gonna be around for life. They're never quitting. And I'm gonna be an old gray fuck in the front row some day for their final tour. I think this is the first time I realized that we the FANS will age too, and at some point there won't be any more teenagers (most of us) at Green Day shows anymore. And that's going to be cool and hilarious. Because we all "grew up" together. I always thought Green Day would age, but you never think about yourself aging
Mykee Mexx Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 And, damn, when they will perform at the age of 50 or 60, I will be 60 or 70 already... rocking in my wheelchair...
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 That said, I'm a bit worried about the tour now. I really hope he is ready already. This has all happened so fast (even though the months have felt excruciating as an anxious fan). He has a fantastic support system though, so I hope that he doesn't ever feel too tempted to fall off the wagon. Kind of puts the whole "is he READY yet?" thing from fans in perspective when you read the actual quotes from him, huh? Most of us don't think of how tolling a whole detoxification would be on a person's body... much tougher than waiting for a concert. I agree, it does kind of seem like it happened quickly. Hope he isn't rushing it.
Louisa Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Where are the scans? I looked through the whole thread but couldn't find them EDIT: Nevermind, found them
WestboundSign! Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I'm trying to buy the magazine today, but I'm pretty sure that they only sell the german version of Rolling Stone here, which consists of other articles. It basically is a different magazine.. But they sell the english version where a friend of mine lives. She offered to get me a copy so I hope this works out. Not many people I've talked to really think of Billie that way, and I'm grateful! You're right about him being so much more than what has showed up in the media. He's my favorite person in the world and my respect for him knows no bounds. This is because he's real. He puts his heart right out there and doesn't bother with covering up with superficial shit like other celebrities do. Sure we don't know everything about him, but what we do know is genuine and that's getting pretty rare nowadays. Besides, almost everything he does proves that he's a truly good person. Yes, he has flaws like anyone else, but he does his best to deal with those flaws and doesn't hide from them. I think that he's actually a pretty good role model. This time for him was more of a triumph than anything else. He tripped over and then came out on top. I know this was two pages ago, but I feel like saying that these are some very, very true and wise words.
Glynnis Stevenson Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 My RS will be in my mailbox today!! This is the best way to start Spring Break!!
lucyinthesky Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 It worked! Here you go lovelies. Enjoy. SCANS: Many thanks for the scans !! I enjoyed reading this interview. It is cleverly conducted and I've appreciated Billie Joe's frankness. He seems really a great guy, so I wish him all the best in the future and hope that he'll succeed in resisting the temptations. Oh, and by the way, as I'm a newbie here, to everybody!!
