musso_kn Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Sex, Drugs and Violence should have never existed. NEVER. Yes. Yes. YES. I think a lot of people like this song, but I find it horribly generic, insincere and for the first time in my life I don't appreciate Mike's vocals.
joeysturkeyhead Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Yes. Yes. YES. I think a lot of people like this song, but I find it horribly generic, insincere and for the first time in my life I don't appreciate Mike's vocals. But it's one of Mike's best vocals ever! I'm pretty sure that I've never listened to that song without replaying Mike's part over and over again.
EggMong Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Sex, Drugs & Violence is one of my absolute favorite Trilogy songs - I love it in every way, especially the pre-chorus, chorus and Mike's part!
musso_kn Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 But it's one of Mike's best vocals ever! Naaahhh...that goes to American Eulogy. Now, that's an awesome song, that wouldn't have sounded so powerful if Billie had sung it.
MaraGreenDay Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 I love Sex, drugs and violence and Mike´s voice in there.... naa who i´m kidding, i love all the songs from the trilogy, except Ashley, i hate that song!!
The Green One Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Misery is overrated on this board. It's not horrible, but definately not as great as everyone claims.
The Green One Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Yeah, Dos is pretty wack. Dos is great. Y'know, except for nightlife. Urgh, nightlife.
21 guns Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 I kind of hate the JOS video... shoot me the trilogy is better than 21CB I never really liked any of Billie's acoustic songs that much (sorry)
The Green One Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 the trilogy is better than 21CB How is this an unpopular opinion?
Guest Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 How is this an unpopular opinion? That's so unpopular you'd nearly get laughed out of the forum for it.
Eldoon Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 I kind of hate the JOS video... shoot me the trilogy is better than 21CB I never really liked any of Billie's acoustic songs that much (sorry) The JOS video is godawful. If that's an unpopular opinion, then I don't want to be right.
Eva Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 I can't believe what I'm reading...Tré a boring drummer. I think it's awesome, he reminds me to Keith Moon. Well, and I just love the trilogy... I find Mike more boring as a bassist... I have a question: What do you think about the popular opinion that Green Day is NOT a punk rock band?? I'm bored about this point that I don't discuss it anymore with anybody. "Power pop, or rock, not punk rock!!" Maybe in some songs, buit in general they are! Everybody thinks what they want. But it fucks me a lot. Attitude-wise, I would say they are punk. Musically, they have not been punk, in my opinion, since 1994. There were songs on Nimrod I would consider punk, so maybe 1997. However, Warning is not punk. American Idiot is rock. 21st Century is rock. The Trilogy is pop-rock, all the way. I usually get yelled at for saying Green Day is not a punk band. Take my opinion as you will. I am not interested in being called a punk elitist again, but comparing them to bands in the punk genre, I would not consider anything past Nimrod solid punk.

This but I've never considered them punk at all Punk values yes but music wise not really imo I never cared for labels half the time folks get labeled wrongly like Nirvana is labeled aa grunge when they were never a grunge band the closet thing they've done to that was Bleach and that has more to do with Jack Endino's production than the actual music... Green Day makes great music that what should matter not a "they're punk" "no they're pop punk" etc
TimmyChunks Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 I thought of Mike's work on AI and Breakdown as boring. Too many overdubbed guitars, and his bass lines seemed like more of an afterthought when considering those songs as a whole. I look at Insomniac and nimrod. as his finest albums. On the subject of whether not Green Day is a punk rock band, I don't care. I used to, but that was when I gave a shit about people's opinions on my musical taste. If you look at their history, they're probably not a "punk" band; they're a trio of guys who write hooky rock tunes, grew up playing in a known punk gathering place (Gilman) and released one hard, dark, angry, punked-up album with Insomniac. They're a great rock-n-roll band to me, and I don't think they need be anything more. Lots of Massachusetts/ New England on here. I love it. You'd think we're getting all fired up for the upcoming CT & RI shows or something! By the way, I was looking at the shows you've attended in your signature- I think we've been at no fewer than 8 shows together. How amazing was that Lupos show in '97? That was definitely a defining moment of my life, and I'm not even close to exaggerating.
musso_kn Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 I kind of hate the JOS video... shoot me the trilogy is better than 21CB I never really liked any of Billie's acoustic songs that much (sorry) I'm sorry, dude, but you're WRONG. Your opinion I guess, but you attacked two of my favourite things
WhiteTim Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Not sure if unpopular or not so I'll just post it here I've seen GD live twice once in 95 as the Astro Arena and at SXSW last week... And they have got better so much performance wise... The aongs and how they performed were good in 95 dont get me wrong but there were barly any stage presence no real interaction with the crowds just we're Green Day and song after song the show lasted a tad under 40 mins... SXSW (and AI era and upa from the videos ive seen) they're almost like a whole new band they've learned how to interact with the crowds perfectly Big switch for me cause 95 it felt (to me at least for the show I attended) like "ok lets juat do these songs real fast and get the fuck home" to 2013 its like "does this have to end cant we play 3 more albums?"
Ashleycase Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 not sure if that's unopopular but I'de prefer to meet Mike than Tre...If I had to choose between the two.
Mar Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Lazy Bones, Wild One, and Stray Heart seem out of place on Dos. They fit the theme of Tre perfectly. Agree about Stray Heart and Lazy Bones; it would have been a great followup to Brutal Love (Wild One I'm neutral about). Missing You should have been on Uno instead of Rusty James and earlier in the tracklist and Troublemaker should have been on Dos.
21 guns Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 How is this an unpopular opinion? It just feels like the reaction to 21CB was so huge... Maybe it was just hype over green day coming back, but it felt huge. These albums.... No hype, not the same epic scale.... Maybe it's not that unpopular, just feels like it.
w00t932 Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Dos is the best album in the trilogy for me. It's energetic as hell.

I didn't really know what to expect going into it, but holy shit- you just reminded me how great Pasalacqua was as an opener that night. I kinda felt bad for Superdrag though. They more or less got booed off the stage!
LazyPhil Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Dos is the best album in the trilogy for me. It's energetic as hell. Not really unpopular, thinking that ¡Uno! is the best, that's unpopular!
PanicAttack! Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Not really unpopular, thinking that ¡Uno! is the best, that's unpopular! ¡Uno! is definetely the underdog, but ¡Tré! is the wonderchild over ¡Dos!
