HolyHandGrenade Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 The Forgotten has outranked any Green Day ballad ever as my favorite. So you have it over Brutal Love, WMUWSE, Whatshername, 21 Guns, Last Night on Earth, and Macy's Day Parade? What do you consider a GD ballad?
DannyDirnt Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 So you have it over Brutal Love, WMUWSE, Whatshername, 21 Guns, Last Night on Earth, and Macy's Day Parade? What do you consider a GD ballad? I have it over Rest, Good Riddance, Redundant, Rotting, Wake Me Up When September Ends, Last Night On Earth, 21 Guns, Amy and Brutal Love. A ballad to me is a really slow song. Probably Brutal Love is objectively better, but I never got into that song.
Ryan Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 So you have it over Brutal Love, WMUWSE, Whatshername, 21 Guns, Last Night on Earth, and Macy's Day Parade? What do you consider a GD ballad? Brutal Love, in my opinion, is one of the best Green Day songs EVER!

DannyDirnt Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Does Oh Love count? Not as a ballad Brutal Love is not a ballad... Really? Good, that's what I thought. But then I remembered the ending, doubted and included it.
Four. Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Brutal Love sure as hell sounds like a ballad. Also, I prefer most American Idiot songs when performed by the cast of the musical.

Four. Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 We must have different recordings of Brutal Love then what is your definition of a ballad? from wikipedia: In the later 19th century it took on the meaning of a slow form of popular love song and the term is now often used as synonymous with any love song, particularly the pop or rock power ballad. pretty sure brutal love fits that description
Eva Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 what is your definition of a ballad? from wikipedia: pretty sure brutal love fits that description lol I've never known what a ballad is. This explains so much.
Chelsea831 Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Misery is one of my favorite Green Day songs. (Not sure how unpopular this opinion really is, but I feel like it doesn't get much credit).
WhiteTim Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 what is your definition of a ballad? from wikipedia: pretty sure brutal love fits that description In that case Baby Got Back is a ballad The MUSIC is far from being considered a ballad...
Kaddi. Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Whaaaaaaat? Wow. I don't know what to say. I know that most people love it, but I just don't. Never have and never will, I think it's annoying and I really don't get what people think is so great about it.
Eva Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Misery is one of my favorite Green Day songs. (Not sure how unpopular this opinion really is, but I feel like it doesn't get much credit). I love the experimentation Green Day did with Misery, both lyrically and instrumentally. It's one of my favorite songs from Warning.
tdlyon Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Even though I saw the American Idiot musical on Broadway with Billie in it and really liked it, I still kinda like to pretend it doesn't exist. It's kinda cheesy and cheapens the original album a bit imo.

It's kinda cheesy and cheapens the original album a bit imo. I haven't seen the musical yet (I'm seeing it in a month or two) but after listening to the soundtrack and comparing it with other musicals I've seen (because I'm a Broadway nerd), I have to say it doesn't sound like the best musical out there. This might be an unpopular opinion, I don't really know, but I also don't like that they put songs from 21st Century Breakdown in the American Idiot musical.

Haven't seen the show yet, but as a previous poster mentioned, I actually think that a lot of the songs have even MORE power with the way they are arranged and the added harmonies in the musical. It made me appreciate the album even more when you can hear how much can be done with it.
Heather. Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 I wonder if anyone dislikes Jesus of Suburbia. THAT would be an unpopular opinion Brutal Love is not a ballad... FWIW Billie Joe called Brutal Love a ballad multiple times.

I've watched many west end musicals and fully enjoyed them, but Green Day and theatre? I don't know, it just feel like a distraction from the rest of their music and its progression. I just wish it would disappear.

The cast album does not do justice to the musical imo. I mean, it's not Wicked, but it's very relatable, and it brings tears to my eyes every time I see a bootleg of it. Maybe I'm biased because that's what got me into theatre in the first place, but hey.

I don't remember the date) and I'm looking forward to it. I'll actually be able to form a valid opinion about the musical.

Not a bad choice, but I still want to see the musical sometime.

I'd pick actual Green Day over the musical too haha. Green Day's not coming to my state though, so I thought "Eh, why not?"
