Anaïs. Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 kill the dj is fun fuck u guys Kill the DJ is the Trilogy song that is in the most dire need of distorted guitars to give it some power. When you listen to the Dookiefied Guitars version, the difference is astounding.
Spike Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I hate Stay the Night. Boring as fuck. Practically everything else on Uno is better. What the fuck is this? Jfc.
munns6691 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Troublemaker Loss Of Control and Sweet 16 arent great songs tho not horrible songs Well here's my thinking: Troublemaker is bad, but so is Kill the DJ so they cancel out. That leaves Nuclear Family, Stay the Night, Carpe Diem, Let Yourself Go, and Fell for You vs. Loss of Control, Angel Blue, Sweet 16, Rusty James and Oh Love. I think if you were to order those songs from best to worst it would go: Stay the Night, Rusty James, Loss of Control, Oh Love, Let Yourself Go, Angel Blue, Sweet 16, Nuclear Family, Carpe Diem, Fell for You. So while songs 1-6 have the best song on UNO, it doesn't have the same depth.
Spike Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I've always hated it. As soon as I heard the first notes, I thought of Beethoven's 9th, which is a bad way to start off any rock song, let's be real, and to me the song as a whole feels just as mediocre as the rest of the songs on Uno, if not more so. But it's the best song on the Trilogy and has one of the best backing vocal arrangements they've ever done. That bridge though. Seriously. It's the only part of the Trilogy that's totally immersive. I love it.

Gotta agree here; I see nothing special about Stay the Night other than its being one of four decent songs on an otherwise sucky album.
The Grouch is Tracy Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I strongly object to the fact that from AI through to the trilogy, Green Day's albums have been so packaged with themes. Not musical or lyrical, but the artwork, and clothes... First black and red with hand grenade... Mike, Tre and Billie, as well as all the others in the band, as well as the drum kit , stage backdrops etc, then black and red with graffiti , then the xx and dayglo colours of the trilogy. Why so theme-y and matchy? For myself as a crabby old lady, it just makes me annoyed. It also really limits the concert shirts that I would be seen dead in.....
Z J Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I don't think there's any tangible argument for The Clash being better at writing lyrics then Billie Joe Armstrong. Does BJA write some crap? Yes. But you should consider the sheer volume of songs he's written.
Spike Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I'm not as musically smart as you, I just hear what I hear, and STN is still my least-played Uno song. Just doesn't sit right in my ears To be fair it's got nothing to do with musical literacy, your ears are just wrong
WhiteTim Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I'm not as musically smart as you, I just hear what I hear, and STN is still my least-played Uno song. Just doesn't sit right in my ears Damn Kay you went from one of my favorite poster to a blocked member with this Stay The Night hate Jk

The red comic book one from the trilogy is amazing
Spike Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 stay the night live is so perfect though!!! ugh them playing it at the echoplex is one of my favorite gd performances ever, i don't even really know why. when i first heard it i got SO excited for the trilogy and now every time i listen to it that's what i think of. That's basically how I felt when I first heard it, which was the video from Reading 2012. With that intro, the increased tempo, louder backing vocals and decent sounding guitars it's one of the best things they've ever done.
HolyHandGrenade Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 This is why it's my least favourite album. It starts off so well (with the exception of Carpe Diem - that's awful), but from then on it is just boring. Rusty James ain't too bad though, they've produced much worse. Carpe Diem was set to be my favorite song, I loved the live leak from a club show. I think it was the worst-affected victim of the trilogy's tones and production.
munns6691 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 For all the trilogy hate and dislike let's be honest: with louder guitars and like 4 days more worth of attention to the lyrics by Billie and everyone's opinions would change.
Z J Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Love the vocal run in Stay The Night on the "it was ever meant to be" line For all the trilogy hate and dislike let's be honest: with louder guitars and like 4 days more worth of attention to the lyrics by Billie and everyone's opinions would change. So basically if the trilogy wasn't….the trilogy.
Mar Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Stay the Night is just one of those songs that's likable. I wouldn't put it high on my all-time list, but it's a pleasant song to listen to, which, given how there are some trilogy songs I truly cannot listen to, I'll gladly take. I mentioned this before in here, but I have good memories of it because it's my "Perks of Being a Wallflower" song, in that it was playing when we went through the Fort Pitt tunnel when we were heading to our Green Day concert like the characters did when Heroes was playing. The bridge of STN was a wonderful song to put in that place. It's a song that create good moments. It also could be like, 30 seconds shorter

Creates an experience for listeners. Looks very professional too.
HolyHandGrenade Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 It's about presentation. Creates an experience for listeners. Looks very professional too. I don't know whether the band went into writing the trilogy with the themes that appeared in the end, but if so, I think the focus, however insignificant, on themes killed the quality of the lyrics.

I think they pretty much made it up as they went along.

The design and general aesthetic was absolutely fantastic. It was simple but very strong as a result, and tied the whole album and touring cycle together very well. Like it or not, visuals are very important, and it makes the whole thing seem incredibly focused. All of the greatest albums of all time are tied together with an aesthetic theme - Dark Side Of The Moon, Back In Black, Rumours, The Black Album... American Idiot is up there with the best of them in that respect. I don't quite understand why it would annoy you, can you explain? I thought after American Idiot the artwork for the Trilogy was relatively disappointing.

Anaïs. Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I want the music to do this.... Not merchandising or presentation. I feel that the energy could be better used. Considering the album is already beyond perfection and the tour was great, I'm not sure how it could have been, really.
UNICORN VOMIT Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I want the music to do this.... Not merchandising or presentation. I feel that the energy could be better used. I actually feel energized when I wear anything AI in my collection - but I am weird.
Spike Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I want the music to do this.... Not merchandising or presentation. I feel that the energy could be better used. What could they have done to improve on the music? The presentation is a very, very important part of the music industry. It's just what it says it is: art.
DookieLukie Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I want the music to do this.... Not merchandising or presentation. I feel that the energy could be better used. AI and 21CB albums and tours were some of the most energetic of their career so...
