Spike Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 ok, preparing for the blasts, but my favorite part of JOS is I Don't Care and my favorite part of Homecoming is Nobody Likes You I love I Don't Care, especially live when Mike and Jason sing it and Billie drops out completely. Absolutely love it. Nobody Likes You is also fantastic, but not my favourite part of Homecoming, there are too many other fantastic bits of it to really pick a favourite.
alexandra_1039 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Damn yes, especially the noise in the very beginning. And Mother Mary too, freaking love it. Except ''there's a GARDEN in the PARK there''. We can thank pot for this amazing line. adding on to "noise at the very beginning"..just YES. Broadway and Ruby Room have always been pretty high on my list. honorable mention goes to 27th ave shuffle. Pretty much the entire album is so fun to listen to. that sax though.
stories and songs Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Add me to the list of people who have recently gotten back into American Idiot! I just started taking a class called "The Social Impact of Rock n Roll," which obviously puts me in the mood for Green Day. My favorite part of JOS is City of the Damned. That line "Lost children with dirty faces today/no one really seems to care" is so powerful and often seems to be overlooked. Also, I just have really good memories of that specific part when they played MSG on the 21CB tour. For Homecoming, I think Death of St. Jimmy is my favorite. I know you've moved on from talking about this topic, but oh well: The band members seem like really cool guys to me. I honestly wouldn't like this band half as much if I thought they were super egocentric or shitty to their fans. I mean on stage, yes, they take on more "rock star-like" behavior and are a little bit cocky, but I've never seen much evidence of that offstage. Obviously they have boatloads of money and have a very comfortable lifestyle, but I've always thought of them as being down to earth. I don't think I've ever once considered them to be "celebrities;" they're kinda just "the guys."

Eh, im pretty much all for anything Mike sings...except for maybe governator anyway.
Anaïs. Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 ok, preparing for the blasts, but my favorite part of JOS is I Don't Care and my favorite part of Homecoming is Nobody Likes You I certainly don't dislike those parts, but my favorite bits have to be "Dearly Beloved" and "The Death of St. Jimmy".
alexandra_1039 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I certainly don't dislike those parts, but my favorite bits have to be "Dearly Beloved" and "The Death of St. Jimmy". YES right on. for dearly beloved i've always loved that weakness shown in the character, and then the bounceback right afterwards, and his vocals are great to top it off. (no explanation necessary for why death of st jimmy is great)
Spike Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Eh, im pretty much all for anything Mike sings...except for maybe governator anyway. If you can call what happens in Governator singing
walking_c0ntradicti0n Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 If you can call what happens in Governator singing kinda how a girl in my school was singing Oh Love, so...

munns6691 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Not So Silent Night was just the 3 of them. That's why they played all old songs.
stories and songs Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 wow i didnt know such a class existed! that sounds amazing. out of curiosity, are green day ever mentioned? lol It's primarily focused on rock in the 50s through the 80s, but I think they'll likely be mentioned toward the end of the class. If the professor doesn't bring them up, I certainly will! They definitely deserve a mention.
HolyHandGrenade Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Tre's best vocals are on Hungry Hungry Models
HolyHandGrenade Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 My favorite's always been "The Pedestrian". Just so much fun. I love the line "an understated Samaritan" people actually listen to hungry hungry models? #purpleplasticearringswag
Spike Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I forgot Hungry Hungry Models existed. Thanks for reminding me, I'm gonna go and not listen to it right now.
HolyHandGrenade Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I forgot Hungry Hungry Models existed. Thanks for reminding me, I'm gonna go and not listen to it right now. I never said the song itself was good
Anaïs. Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Tre's best vocals are on Hungry Hungry Models Pardon my ignorance, but what the fuck is that?
Spike Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Pardon my ignorance, but what the fuck is that?
jakdokinori Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Pardon my ignorance, but what the fuck is that? A song from The Network That band that totally aren't Green Day
bagelfeet Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Oh god, that is such a horrifying song. I get kind creeped out when listening to half of Money Money 2020, like X-Ray Hamburger is fuckin scary (and the name is like wtf)
Anaïs. Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 A song from The Network That band that totally aren't Green Day Ahh, that explains it--I've listened to their standouts, but never the whole album front to back.
jakdokinori Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Ahh, that explains it--I've listened to their standouts, but never the whole album front to back. Me neither I don't think...it doesn't appeal to me as much as the Foxies, there's something vaguely unsettling about it I shall have to at some point though. Right Hand a Rama is always fun though
munns6691 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 This isn't going to be unpopular but imagine is 2009 Billie (voice peak wise) could sign Brutal Love live.
DookieLukie Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 It's primarily focused on rock in the 50s through the 80s, but I think they'll likely be mentioned toward the end of the class. If the professor doesn't bring them up, I certainly will! They definitely deserve a mention. My friend has a similar writing class, except it's about the impact of punk on society. Kinda cool.
Oxymore Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 adding on to "noise at the very beginning"..just YES. Hey perverse can we be friends !!!! \o/ (I always replay this moment... )
