JOE THE X-KID Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Remember when there used to be unpopular opinions in this thread. I like tambourine it's actually one of mine too. lots of people seem to hate it though hey I love it too!
Jax Teller Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I wish I had personal interactions with the band that I could complain about not being intimate enough. Not really. Yes, heaven forbid we continue to discuss something slightly controversial in the unpopular opinions thread. Although he was wasted, in my experiences, people say a lot of stupid, unfiltered things when they're drunk. It's not a matter of not thinking about the difference between two words, it's just a matter of saying the first thing that comes to your mind. You lose that filter that blocks out stupid statements. In my opinion, his "I've been around since..." rant seemed like his response to and defense against the lifeless crowd and what he perceived as a cut set, which both threatened him and made him feel uncomfortable. If he wasn't drunk, he probably wouldn't have said it, but it doesn't mean he wouldn't have thought it. Yes, I know I'll never know his true intent in saying those things, but to me it came off as selfish and immature, regardless of if he said "I" or "we." But the "I" just made it even worse. You have the right to talk about whatever you want. The only thing I said is that beyond the fact that he was wasted we don't know something else about him (his problems, his real thoughts). It seems strange that even a year and a half later we are still talking about it and judge for things that don't concern us. Personally, I prefer to talk about Wild one whiich is my favorite song from Dos and nobody likes it rather than how Billie said "I" instead of "we". This is my opinion, don't kill me

bridgette_xx Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 The only Green Day songs I don't particularly like are 'oh love' and 'kill the dj' they're just very repetitive and annoy me.
The Grouch is Tracy Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I hate their cover of My Generation. I find it boring and just blah.
Spike Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I hate their cover of My Generation. I find it boring and just blah. Gotta agree with this. It's very pedestrian compared to the original. It's real testament to just how good a bassist John Entwistle was that Mike couldn't do that song justice. It's very bass driven to begin with, and Mike just wasn't on it for that song, unfortunately.
DookieLukie Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Boulevard of Broken Dreams. So goddam repetitive. We say that now, but don't you remember when you first discovered that song? I was floored. I've just listened to it so much that the song is completely ruined.
jakdokinori Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Yes, but isn't a song's greatness partly indicated by its ability to continue flooring you over a long period of time? I think a song definitely has to have replayability value, but I think you could get sick of any song, no matter how amazing it is, after years of listening to it. Maybe getting sick is too strong of a term, for me it's more like I still really enjoy listening the song, just not as much as the first few times.
jakdokinori Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I am still not sick of American Idiot, and I've probably listened to it close to every day since it came out, so I dunno, I do think there are songs that you're not able to get sick of. I agree. I never get sick of songs, at best I just take a little break from them and then I get a craving to hear them again. That's why I'm so happy that Green Day have so many songs, unless you're listening to their entire discography every day, there's almost always a song or album you probably haven't heard properly in a while, then you fall in love with that album all over again.
DookieLukie Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Yes, but isn't a song's greatness partly indicated by its ability to continue flooring you over a long period of time? I'm not saying that BLVD is the best song on American Idiot. Maybe most catchy, though? Dunno. I just remember how awesome that song was when I first heard it and it didn't get old for a few years. First song to really instill good feelings in me.
Oxymore Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 BJ's voice during ''I don't feel any shame I won't apologize (...)'' in JOS is fucking trippy.
Jollyroger118 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Boulevards a classic and a masterpiece and possibly their "best" song ever in basic terms of what makes a great song. My least favorite on AI might be Wake Me Up even though I acknowledge its another classic and a great song but compared to everything else on that album it'd probably be my least favorite. The version on Bullet In A Bible is incredible though. And my favorite from AI is either Letterbomb or Whatsername...or JOS or Homecoming. Or maybe all of them
JOE THE X-KID Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Whats the least best song on American Idiot she's a rebel
Spike Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I've recently got back into American Idiot in a major way. BOBD has always been one of my favourites. Even when I've got a tad bored of the song itself, it's always caused crippling nostalgia, especially watching the video. It's one of those albums where even 10 years on I can still come to appreciate songs in new ways. Like I never realised just how on it the whole band sound on Holiday until recently, it's incredible. The same goes for how intense Billie's vocals are in JOS. The only songs that don't amaze me are She's A Rebel and Extraordinary Girl. They're strong songs in themselves, but compared to the rest of the album they fall a bit flat.
JOE THE X-KID Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Does anyone else think American Idiot is really strong at the start, drops off in the middle then ends very strongly

Anaïs. Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Does anyone else think American Idiot is really strong at the start, drops off in the middle then ends very strongly Not really. "She's a Rebel" and "Extraordinary Girl" are still awesome songs—the former is just a blast to listen to and gets me pumped up no matter where I am, and the latter is excellent at telling a quietly sad love story.
Spike Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Does anyone else think American Idiot is really strong at the start, drops off in the middle then ends very strongly I kind of see what you mean, although I disagree. I think the album can be split into three sections; American Idiot to BOBD, Are We The Waiting to Extraordinary Girl and Letterbomb to Whatsername. Each seems to have its own dynamic, and the lack track in each section serves as a distinctive cadence point, and then the flow kind of resets at the start of the next track. Overall I think it's very well paced.
bagelfeet Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Am I the only one that thinks Broadway is the best song by FBHT?
The Disappearing Boy Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I too am getting into American Idiot again. There could be like 9 singles from that album. That's how good it is.
