tammy_cool Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Everyone wrote them off after Dookie and Warning, and look what happened after those albums. All they really need to do is chill the fuck out on the quantity side and focus on crafting a few songs until they're great. I'm quite optimistic for the future, really. I don't expect anything like AI ever again but they could at least match Nimrod, I'm sure. Agreed. It seems Green Day are awesome when they're written off because they don't have to try and live up to high expectations. Maybe the Trilogy was over-ambitious, and maybe we'll never get another AI again. But Green Day are a bunch of very talented musicians who I think still have a lot left in them.

DookieLukie Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 unreasonable isn't the word i would choose to describe dookielukie anyway You're thinking the word "sexy" I'm assuming
Ryan Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Sorry...it's just the one album that I NEVER put in my CD player. If I do, it's to hear like 3 songs and then eject it.

JOE THE X-KID Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Green day aren't splitting up. They're extremely close friends, love what they do. And How do we know Tre doesn't love his part in Green Day, maybe he enjoys not having the limelight, he actually seems like quite a shy and private person.

He makes minimal fuss at the end of gigs, usually just kind of disappears and that's the end of it. The same at awards shows they've performed at, I've repeatedly see him finish the song and just walk off while the other guys are lapping up the attention. Behind being really goofy he's probably very reserved and just wants to play music; the attention has never seemed that important to him.

The goofiness also seems like a bit of a facade for him - something for security
DookieLukie Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 well...no. sorry i have much better taste than that You have no idea, girl
Spike Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I feel like we've all done the "generally argue with DookieLukie over not very much" relatively recently. Give it a rest, please, it's starting to get spammy in here and it's getting in the way of a good discussion.

Back to Unpopular Opinions, then...does anyone else not get the love for "Christie Road"? I mean, it's quite good, but far from the best on Kerplunk. Every time someone gushes about how it's their favorite song it leaves me somewhat mystified.

I don't like how half way through they're just like "fuck this" and change it up completely out of nowhere. I love the first half, the second part kind of bores me, so I finish the song feeling quite empty when it got off to a promising start.

Who Wrote Holden Caulfield is way better, especially on AAF
Anaïs. Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Same! Who Wrote Holden Caulfield is way better, especially on AAF I agree with you for the in-studio version, but I don't like that one as much on AAF—slowing it down is a bad choice, especially when Tre's drumming is so good on the fast version. I really wish they'd play 80 more in concert. Now there's the best song on Kerplunk.

I appreciate it on some tracks, but I didn't for this one.

AlissaGoesRAWR Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Yeah, I honestly think the "Green Day breaking up" hunch is a bunch of shit Seadog has churned up just for attention. Fangirling aside, it just doesn't seem logical to me. I honestly think it would've happened already, a while ago, likely after Warning, if they were a band that was only driven by mainstream success or their own personal agendas. Whatever their roles in the band, they seem to be fine with them, and as long as they're happy, I don't really care what they do. Although I'd prefer they start touring the fucking U.S. soon, or put out a kickass CD... Also, sometimes certain band members need to take a back-seat. Look at Blink-182. Neighborhoods was like 3 different bands trying to shove a ton of individualism in each song. And what you get is a bunch of pieces that don't fit. Omg, don't even talk about that album. Terrible.
