Anaïs. Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 You say that, but it's not like there are many to choose from. Nobody Likes You is hardly a work of genius. Is Governator not the only song he's been fully responsible for? "J.A.R.", "Ha Ha You're Dead", "Suffocate", "Emenius Sleepus"
Spike Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 "J.A.R.", "Ha Ha You're Dead", "Emenius Sleepus", "Suffocate" I don't know enough about Suffocate but didn't Billie have some part in writing the music of the others?
DookieLukie Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 The documentary painted a very good picture of Green Day. They seemed to be hanging out in the studio, goofing off and jamming around. Also, sometimes certain band members need to take a back-seat. Look at Blink-182. Neighborhoods was like 3 different bands trying to shove a ton of individualism in each song. And what you get is a bunch of pieces that don't fit.
Guest Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 "J.A.R.", "Ha Ha You're Dead", "Suffocate", "Emenius Sleepus" Scumbag, not Suffocate. I don't know enough about Suffocate but didn't Billie have some part in writing the music of the others? Also, interestingly, Mike's only contribution to Governator was his vocals. He didn't write or compose it. So yeah
Anaïs. Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I don't know enough about Suffocate but didn't Billie have some part in writing the music of the others? I'm pretty sure they're all Mike besides "Emenius". And "Suffocate" was a mistake, sorry—meant "Scumbag".
Guest Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Counterpoint: Nightlife. Green Day can experiment whenever they want. Why is it so unreasonable to think they were just happy with what they were doing, whether you like the output or not? There's about 3 experimental songs from a total of 37. That says it all really.

I never thought I'd agree with you on anything, but yeah!i think that's part of the problem though. they seemed really excited about the trilogy before it came out, and that's what worries me. how long can they keep going if putting out records that are mostly crap is what they're happy with now? Well, yeah. It's not our fault they have crap taste, though If they're happy with what they're doing, which they CLEARLY are, I don't see how it's a reasonable assumption they're on the brink of splitting up. Seems to me like Ceadog is deciding what should make Mike and Tre happy, as though he has any idea how they really feel. Also, interestingly, Mike's only contribution to Governator was his vocals. He didn't write or compose it. So yeah Fuck, seriously? Well it's still shit.

I'll probably be proved wrong, but as well as this, I really can't see them being much good again, at least not anytime soon anyway.
WhiteTim Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 For some reason Ceadog wants to see Green Day (especially Billie) crash and burn. "Some men just want to watch the world burn"

You never actually said it was anything to do with them being good again, just whether they'd stay together or not
Anaïs. Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 You never actually said it was anything to do with them being good again, just whether they'd stay together or not Bands that aren't good tend to not sell records, which tends to lead to their label dropping them, which tends to lead to them splitting up.

I don't get the impression Green Day are in it for the money anymore, so I consider that kind of irrelevant. I can see them carrying on for the fun of it regardless of mainstream success.
DookieLukie Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 In comparison to most music out there (even in the rock genre), Green Day is still one of the best bands.

I'm not going to cite Biffy, because we all know whose job that is, but the Trilogy is absolute dreck compared to the best rock stuff out there today.
beejeezee Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Reported for bullying. I am so done if you really consider that bullying after the shit you've done to people I care about.
Spike Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 i don't necessarily think they're going to split up anytime soon, and i really hope they don't...but at the same time, i don't think i would be at all surprised if it did happen. idk, i'm personally a lot more worried about them continuing to churn out a bunch of shit albums because i'm selfish and i don't care if it makes them happy i just want good music!!! they seem to be at a turning point right now and as much as i hate to say it, i don't see them coming out with another amazing album unless they try something completely different...which looks unlikely at this point. i don't know. i hope they surprise me Everyone wrote them off after Dookie and Warning, and look what happened after those albums. All they really need to do is chill the fuck out on the quantity side and focus on crafting a few songs until they're great. I'm quite optimistic for the future, really. I don't expect anything like AI ever again but they could at least match Nimrod, I'm sure.
Mykee Mexx Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I don't get the impression Green Day are in it for the money anymore, so I consider that kind of irrelevant. I can see them carrying on for the fun of it regardless of mainstream success. It would give them even more freedom.

DookieLukie Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I am so done if you really consider that bullying after the shit you've done to people I care about. Can we nominate this for best quote in GDC for 2014? I'm loving the out-of-nowhere hatred. Also, props for beejeezee for standing up against this neckbeard Ceadog
Anaïs. Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 This thread is upsetting me on several levels ugh I hate all of you except Tomnomnomnom, also where is Hermione when you need her?! Don't hate us because we speak the truth, hate BJA for landing us here.
Spike Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 i'm sure they have it in them, i'm just a lot less sure if they'll actually make the effort to do it if they're really happy with the music they're making now. idk, i'll probably still be going to green day concerts ten years from now regardless of what shit they put out next. can't seem to escape this fuckin band I still went to see them after they put the fucking Trilogy out and I still loved it also where is Hermione when you need her?! I was just thinking that
