Bastard of 1969 Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Billie's vocals on pretty much every song are really bad these days

Bastard of 1969 Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Here we go again And for the love of Satan, learn how to use memes properly. Ok, now, what is so wrong in Billie's trilogy voice?
Guest Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Ok, now, what is so wrong in Billie's trilogy voice? This has to be the fourth or fifth time I've done this. Cringey Disastrous The less said the better. Basically, Billie was completely out of tune for most of the 99 Revolution tour. Mike is never off key with his harmonies, and you can hear them clashing with Billie's in every song. Billie couldn't hit a note live to save his testicles right now.

Guest Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 I win every time. And don't quote videos, you nearly broke the page.
JOE THE X-KID Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 I think the Brutal love vocals at Reading are pretty impressive
Guest Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 I think the Brutal love vocals at Reading are pretty impressive He veers in and out of key a lot at that show. Parts of Brutal Love aren't bad, but it's definitely not consistent. Like he'll sing half a line off and then correct himself midway. It's better than Rock Am Ring when he couldn't sing a note, but it's still poor.
Bastard of 1969 Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Welcome to Paradise in Reading 2012 was pretty impressive too.
Spike Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Does anyone know if they've got a new sound crew or anything? I've heard plenty of singers falter live due to simply having a crappy monitor mix caused by a new crew, and not being able to hear themselves very well.
Guest Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Welcome to Paradise in Reading 2012 was pretty impressive too. Mate I could sing Welcome To Paradise well. It's not very vocally challenging
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 I'm indifferent to both lines. I think they each convey a different meaning: Overjoyed kind of implies that he's simplistic, easily amused and that his happiness comes without much effort, kind of like a complacency; why do anything else when I'm content right here? Unemployed kind of implies that he's unmotivated and without purpose, and is questioning if it's because he's just without a job/lazy or if there's something like a developmental disability keeping him from moving on with his life. (Of course, I don't know if using "retarded" was a great choice, but I'll save that for a discussion with SJWs ) I kind of view it as him using "faggot" in American Idiot and "fags" in Holiday. It's more of an ironic social commentary than using it in a derogatory way. So it's OK with me, even though I'm generally extremely pissed off when people use "retarded" to mean "stupid." I interpret the line the same as you, like, "am really I this easily amused, or is there something mentally wrong with me?" Plays into the "nothing wrong with me, how I'm supposed to be" line too.
Spike Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Mate I could sing Welcome To Paradise well. It's not very vocally challenging My singer fucked it up pretty spectacularly when we did it live
Guest Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 My singer fucked it up pretty spectacularly when we did it live But... how?
Guest Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 I bet his voice cracked on the "Pay attention..." bit. Billie just growls that now, I'm pretty sure. It's one of those songs where he can get away with growling difficult notes instead of missing them.
Guest Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 The joke is that it's not even a difficult note you mong. Well I don't know jack about the mechanics of singing do I? I just have an ear for bum notes
Spike Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 But... how? I just don't think it suited her voice tbh. We had to transpose it up from Eb to G just to stop it being too low for her. It wasn't even that bad, just didn't have the necessary attitude. bum notes
Spike Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 I'm going to go ahead and say that there are very, very few notes in Green Day songs that are difficult to hit. Obviously, there's your odd falsetto, but by and large, all of their songs are fairly easy to sing. Fact: Billie has a known range of 3 and a half octaves.

Obviously, there's your odd falsetto, but by and large, all of their songs are fairly easy to sing. Which makes Billie's complete lack of vocal ability live all the more depressing. Fact: Billie has a known range of 3 and a half octaves. I thought it was closer to two?
Spike Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Well, shit. He's good at concealing his ability sometimes
Spike Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 I thought it was closer to two? He's hit a G#5 live on a few occasions, and there's an A2 in Working Class Hero.
Guest Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 He's hit a G#5 live on a few occasions, and there's an A2 in Working Class Hero. Maybe that was just his usual range then.
Spike Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Maybe that was just his usual range then. Yeah, his strength is clearly in the 3rd to 4th octave range, he tends to only really go for particularly high notes live a lot of the time.
