Unpopular Green Day Opinions

Billie, Mike, and Tre love music too much. Taking a step back and looking at it objectively is difficult for any of us to do, for obvious reasons. We all (sans Ceadog) want to see them continue on. I do believe they have plenty left in the tank, and I believe firmly we will see this band release another album from Green Day.

Kinda putting words in my mouth there man. I'd like to see them keep going, assuming they keep putting out quality material and the guys are doing it for their own enjoyment. I'd rather they split than churned out a few more crap albums and limped half heartedly through another couple of tours.

you're right, I was joking :P, and I agree with you. I think they're smart enough to know they need to change it up though, at least to the extent that Warning and Nimrod were changed up.

Would anyone care if Billie still smoked pot? Just out of curiosity. I wouldn't, he's been smoking forever and if he still wants to well by all means he's earned it

This thread can be summed up in this Operation Ivy lyric: "All I know is that I don't know nothing."

Pretty sure NimrodJimrod here just likes to come into this thread to object to its existence. It's starting to get annoying.

if billie still smoked pot i think i'd have to stop listening to green day sorry :/

Whys that?

And my new unpopular opinion, I never really liked See The Light until the other night it came on shuffle and it just moved me, the lyrics are kinda vague and all but "I just wanna see the light/ I need to know what's worth the fight" sums up perfectly how I been feeling. So simple yet so true. I've also always loved how the lyrics are written on the wall of the 21 Guns video, I wonder why they chose to do that

Most of us are just saying that a breakup is quite possibly on the cards.

Is "most" a new synonym for "I?" Pretty sure you're the only one perpetuating this ill-founded breakup rumor, dear. :P

I really don't think that's in the cards. A small hiatus, maybe, but I don't think one shitty set of albums, or even rehab, is enough to derail the band for good. I'm not expecting anything soon, and I'm not expecting anything groundbreaking ever again, but I don't think the band will stop producing music, even if it is a less ideal, "slow death" sort of exit.

Ban him, Mr. Moderator. ;)

Or are you too busy sleeping?

Well see I don't think they are close to a break up at all, I think they just needed this time off and everyone is overreacting because of it. They may be quite for a little bit but that's no big deal.

Also even if he is stressed on stage that probably won't stop him from recording music, cause that's what he loves to do the most. So I'd still count on more albums.

And during the insomniac-pre-warning era Billie wasn't happy on stage either, even when under the influence.

"Most of us" was simply referring to the ones discussing the whole Billie appearing unhappy thing. Where's your reading comprehension skills gone Ms. Reporter Woman? :P

I'm pretty sure I never mentioned them taking time off once in any of my posts :P

It's very difficult to make a living just out of recording and releasing albums. Touring is where artists get a good 90% of their money, and recording is damn expensive.

I don't really think the two eras are even comparable. Back then Billie Joe was still just a young man dealing with all the downsides of fame. He probably felt he couldn't quit any because he had a young family to support and he had nowhere else to go. A lot changes in 15 years. Billie is one of the biggest music stars in the world, and could quite easily live off royalties for the rest of his life. He's even got his own record label and experience in production, so he has career alternatives.

No, but he was using alcohol/drugs as an enabler to help him perform. That love may have been dampened somewhat with sobriety.

May. But as has been hinted at before, none of us really know anything. :P They've come back from low points before (admittedly this is probably their lowest), but either way I'm intrigued to see how they recover from this whole episode. :)

I don't think they are that close to a break up, anyway I hope that this hiatus will last at least 2-3 years, I don't want to listen to other songs that seem unfinished for lack of a better word.

This thread can be summed up in this Operation Ivy lyric: "All I know is that I don't know nothing."

That's Socrates though, they ripped off an ancient greek rockstar.

It's a bastardised Socrates quote. The original was "As for me, all I know is that I know nothing". The Operation Ivy lyric throws in a double negative, although that's probably just supposed to be a clever play on stupidity whilst quoting Socrates or something.

oh yeah that double negative thing in english, didn't thought about it! Also, technically they quoted Socrates' groupie, Plato. :P

Just goes to show how clever Socrates was; he must have know that we'd be having this conversation a few thousand years in the future, so he gave us a quote for it :)

See, I disagree, you said "most" people think a breakup is "quite possibly on the cards." Most implies a majority. Is anyone else actually agreeing about the breakup part? Because most people are responding, "eh... no." Time off is different that a breakup. :P

Well people were liking my posts, so I assume at least some of them agree with me :P

When you live in Ireland 4 people counts as "most people."

This is accurate. The entire population of the country is half that of NYC ffs.

When I like your posts, it's not so much a sign of approval as it is a sign of how hard I laughed at it :)

I'm not sure whether this is an unpopular opinion or not...but I hope Green Day don't share a lot from the studio the next time they go in to record an album. I hope we don't get the video updates, and I hope they don't play the songs live before they've recorded them like they did with the trilogy.

Personally I prefer it when there's more mystery behind an album...and while those video updates were really exciting and I enjoyed watching them multiple times to pick out small details, I'd prefer it without that sense of voyeurism. A lot of us (the majority?) listened to the live recordings of the trilogy songs loooooong before we heard the studio versions.

I'm all for Instagram updates, the odd snap from the studio here and there maybe, I just crave the moment when you finally get your hands on the new album...and you've heard very little about it, and you discover it for the first time.

Anyone else have the same thing?
