BetterThanAir Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 No idea if I've said this before, but Minority is incredibly over rated and I hate how it's always played near the end of a concert.
BetterThanAir Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Perfect concert-closer, though. I tend to agree with you, that it's over-rated, but hearing it live in concert is a whole other experience. No matter how many times I've heard it live, I still love being in the crowd and singing along. Always makes me tear up Don't get me wrong, I still reacted the same way everyone else did when they started to play it; I flipped out and was so happy to hear it. I just don't see why it's almost always a concert closer. It makes me sad because then I can't stop thinking about how fucked up society is after I hear that song, which isn't even the point of the song, but that's how I always feel after I listen to it. At this point I listen to the live versions more than the album versions just because I love the environment of a concert (especially a Green Day concert), but there are so many songs better than it.
BetterThanAir Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Not going to lie, I always thought it was hilariously ironic to be standing there surrounded by thousands of people, all of us screaming about wanting to be the minority LOL I never thought of that. That's too much. :')
Anaïs. Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 No idea if I've said this before, but Minority is incredibly over rated and I hate how it's always played near the end of a concert. I love it, even the studio version, but I do wish they'd change it up every now and then. That said, Billie's final chorus of "One light, one mind" etc. is undoubtedly the most epic moment of the evening.
The Grouch is Tracy Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 *random input that has nothing to do with little boy named train* i was scrolling through these pages and wondering if theres something EVERYONE agrees on, so i'll give this a go, c'mon can anyone really complain about Give me Novacaine? Just from a medical point of view in that the drug Novocaine won't actually put you to sleep as in "give me along kiss goodnight...." The song should really be called Give Me Isoflurane. But I still LOVE it!

Cath Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 i quite like minority. with the first notes and the part 'one light one mind flashing in the dark'
cocoepops Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 I keep listening to LBNT and the story just doesn't fit
sharika Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 No idea if I've said this before, but Minority is incredibly over rated and I hate how it's always played near the end of a concert. surely that would just go under the save the best til last category? where it goes on the setlist doesn't make a comment on how good a song it is!
Spike Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 i quite like minority. with the first notes and the part 'one light one mind flashing in the dark' Is that an unpopular opinion? I thought it was one of their best loved songs. It's overdone live but I think it's great.
Jax Teller Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Just from a medical point of view in that the drug Novocaine won't actually put you to sleep as in "give me along kiss goodnight...." The song should really be called Give Me Isoflurane. But I still LOVE it! But novocaine is an anesthetic. "Tell me that I won't feel a thing / So give me novocaine" . The novocaine is associated with the pain and not with sleep. I may be wrong, though.
Jollyroger118 Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 And when he says long kiss goodnight I don't think he literally means put him to sleep but to put him in a dream like state. And LBNT's back story don't fit the song at all but I think that the original idea/name came from that story and he more related to himself. What the hell kind of song would it be if it was about that boy/girl? A fucking weird one that probably wouldn't make much sense...then again that's pretty much how it turned out anyways so who knows
The Grouch is Tracy Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 But novocaine is an anesthetic. "Tell me that I won't feel a thing / So give me novocaine" . The novocaine is associated with the pain and not with sleep. I may be wrong, though. Yep, you are right, it's a locally injected freezing anesthetic, but it just seemed to me that in the song he wanted to go right to sleep, no bad dreams etc. Anyway, still one of my favourites!

Again, I'm not saying the song is bad. I like Minority but it isn't one of their top ten songs or anything IN MY OPINION (hense why this is posted in the unpopular opinion section). I just don't like when it's played at the end of a setlist. I would prefer it in the middle. Again, MY UNPOPULAR OPINION so I'm sorry if I stepped on any toes. Never said the song was bad, I only dislike two Green Day songs and Minority is far from that list....it's about in the middle for me.

The Grouch is Tracy Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 The ideologically pure thing to do, of course, would be to obstinately stand there with my arms crossed, glaring at Billie throughout the entire song ....and my tongue hanging out; thus ruining my whole thug ethos......
Jax Teller Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Yep, you are right, it's a locally injected freezing anesthetic, but it just seemed to me that in the song he wanted to go right to sleep, no bad dreams etc. Anyway, still one of my favourites! To me he wants something for the pain and something to calm down and be able to sleep again without demons in his dreams. It's one of my favourites too.
DirtyRottenForgotten Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Stay The Night is one of my least favorite songs from the Trilogy.
alexandra_1039 Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Stay The Night is one of my least favorite songs from the Trilogy. say what now
Anaïs. Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Here's one that I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority on. Everyone keeps going on about how happy Billie seems these days, and I just don't see it. For example, watching Reading 2013 is almost painful for me because, in addition to the fact that his vocals are so slipshod these days, he just seemed bored/sad. He doesn't seem happy at all to me, and far less vibrant than he was pre-I Heart.

I just get the feeling that he's just not interested in touring/being a part of Green Day right now. Back before rehab and everything he seemed really happy, as fucked up as he was. Perhaps sobriety doesn't suit him.

Back before rehab and everything he seemed really happy, as fucked up as he was. Perhaps sobriety doesn't suit him. Sobriety has never suited him. I get the impression he struggles to relax and is somewhat reserved in general, so it wouldn't surprise me if he found it difficult to perform totally sober. Obviously it was the best thing for his health to quit the booze, and I think once he gets used to it he'll be alright. Just because he's out of rehab doesn't mean he might not be finding it insanely difficult, which could be affecting his performances. I think to suggest he doesn't want to be in the band anymore is just a typical Ceadog attempt at trolling the crazy fangirls

Rehab can give you a fresh perspective on life, and maybe he's just not into that lifestyle anymore. It's a high pressure job with a ton of expectations, where he's surrounded by booze and drugs on a nearly 24/7 basis. It's a recovering addict's nightmare, and I wouldn't blame him if he was considering retirement. It's not like he's gonna go broke now or anything, he could live in comfort for the rest of his life just on royalties.
