No, the official one is by HDTracks and was done using analogue gear, as opposed to a chainsaw, as that one sounds like. The details from the website say:

I dunno what half of that means, but I'll have a look for it anyway!

Did you watch the video I posted before?

Essentially it's uncompressed and therefore more dynamic, so you can hear everything more clearly and the differences between loud and quiet parts are actually as noticeable as they should be.

I watched it couple of months ago and got bored half way through and gave up. I couldn't be bothered to watch it again :P

I've just found it on the official site and couldn't get it due to 'regional restrictions', so I'm torrenting it :)

Haha, fair enough :P

Yeah, it's only available in the US officially. I'd have been more than happy to pay for it if it had been available. The same goes for Kerplunk, Nimrod, Warning, 21st Century Breakdown and the Trilogy.

Did you find a good torrent? PM me

I should also point out that it helps to have a FLAC compatible music player for the remasters, as if you open them in iTunes it just converts them back to mp3 and you lose a lot of quality. It still sounds better but I find it's a bit weird as mp3 because you still hear the effects of the file compression even though the actual mastered audio is uncompressed.

I just googled American Idiot HD track torrent and clicked on the first one. Dunno the link I'm afraid.

That's annoying. Do you know a way of putting the files onto an ipod without importing them into itunes? I've tried something, but that didn't work. I want them on my ipod coz my ipod speakers are my only decent speakers, so it would be nice to hear the full effect.

Late but: Yeah, not really feeling the trilogy at all. At first there were some nice songs, and I still listen to some of them, but they're pretty repetitive and not their best. Mostly I feel like the band lost control of their art. It seemed like they just made the albums so they could say they released three at once!!! when really it wasn't their best stuff and they lost out on quality. Been thinking about this a lot lately.

There are ways, but iPods don't support FLAC files, unfortunately. A compromise would be to convert them to AIFF. It's not ideal in quality terms but better than MP3, so it's worth the compromise if you want the stuff on your iPod. The whole thing is a bit of a pain really!

Is the HQ AI official in the sense that Green Day knows about it and endorses it?

Does anyone else go through super long periods of just never listening to Green Day? I don't think I've listened to them for about two months but they're still my favorite band by far and I still come here every day lol

I've been doing that lately. At the end of 2012 and beginning of 2013 I forced myself to listen to the trilogy so many times to get to know it, and now I even skip a them a lot on shuffle. I don't hate the trilogy or anything, it's just that I wasn't organically listening to it, and because I was forcing myself to get into it, I've just been backing off of them, only listening to select songs on shuffle and anything I hear on the radio.

That's happened plenty of times to be before. Hasn't happened recently but I know what you mean.

It's on GDA:

"One of [Train's] parents was born a hermaphrodite, and [Train's parents] cut off the penis. His/her whole life, this person wanted to be acknowledged as a man. The parents wanted the child to not be identified as a boy or a girl, and the child didn't really have a name --one week it's Tigger, another it's Train. Many years ago I wrote it down, and I always wanted to write a song called 'Little Boy Named Train.' [This] happened to someone else, but there's a part of me I was thinking about when I wrote it. There's a line: 'I'm always lost, I'll never change, give me directions and I'll get lost again.' Kind of autobiographical." -- Billie Joe

Billie Joe's son went to school with "Train," who was raised by two women. Throughout the song, the narrator eludes to the general feeling of uncertainty surrounding this character. As a child, the character did not have control of his life, and was forced to roll with the punches, "like a rat inside a maze." This carries strong meaning, because this high degree of uncertainty isn't usually part of a person's life. Now, the only choice "Train" has is to accept what he's been through, and wonder where he'll be tomorrow. The song is completely summed up in these lines: "Don't know where I come from / But I know where I have been."

I still hate it as a song and think it's about Thomas The Tank Engine porn. But whatever.

weirdest fucking song description ever

You'd think a song with that interesting of a background would have come out a bit less bland.

Seriously, like I'm kind of left speechless by that background story. It is so different from what I got out of the lyrics/music (which was essentially nothing)

Posted

Honestly hearing the backstory makes ALBNT even more disappointing of a song than it already was, if that's possible...it's such a cookie-cutter, undistinguishable song but that backstory is REALLY interesting

I'm just picturing it as it would go if David Bowie wrote a song based on the same story and HOLY JIZZBALLS THAT WOULD BE THE BEST THING EVER.

Knowing how great the backstory of such a disappointing song is just makes me sad.

*random input that has nothing to do with little boy named train*

I certainly can't, beautiful song from all aspects. Lyrically, vocally, and instrumentally.

Plus YouTube compresses audio/video quality, so it's pointless
