Unpopular Green Day Opinions

Calling the Trilogy experimental is a bit of a joke anyway. 95% of it is the same stuff GD have being doing since 1989.

I guess I should have rephrased. I wish their idea of being "experimental" was actually being experimental, and was more collaboration amongst themselves for Homecoming-like songs and others.

No. To me it just looked like "Oh, Billie's lost his shit, better join in so he doesn't look stupid by himself."

EXACTLY. He's the best friend ever. My attraction to him increased by 600% that day, just based on that sheer, adorable act of friendship. :)

#fangirl, I know.

Yes, they even share their stupidity.

I can see why one might see it that way, but I felt really sorry for his bass :P

There's nothing impressive about smashing a guitar up, it's just stupid. Billie had the excuse that he was fucked, whereas from Mike it just seemed really weird.

Friends don't let friends do stupid things... alone.

I see it as a desperate attempt to trick the public into thinking it was planned or something, or that they were all in on it.

Yeah, I hardly believe Mike would have done it if Billie hadn't. He was just trying to make his friend look less stupid.

Yeah, if anything Tre did the more useful thing by trying to prevent cameramen from getting closer.

But if Mike had done what Tre did then Billie would have been on stage all alone looking like the biggest fucking idiot (more than he already did). The cameramen were going to get closer no matter what (because let's face it there's no stopping someone when they are drunk and ranting) so all it really came down to was "do I want to abandon my friend and leave him all alone or do I want to play along and hope to god it looks planned?" Mike did the smarter thing, to be honest.

Let's face it, there was nothing that could have happened to make Billie look any better. I mean, he's too ashamed to watch it back himself, and it's not like he's a stranger to bizarre drug-fuelled behaviour and smashing instruments up. I can fully understand what Mike was trying to do, it makes perfect sense. But I agree that Tre did the best thing in trying to stop it from being glamourised in some way as though it was a cool thing to be happening. Mike was in a difficult position in that he could either stand there and watch it happening, which looks unsupportive, or join in - I don't think it would have been a great idea for him to try and physically stop Billie from doing what he was doing. But joining in just made it look like... I don't know, like he was condoning the behaviour or something? It just kind of looked like "Oh lol, we're doing this, okay then." As I say, in the heat of the moment it must have been an impossible position to be in, so I'm not criticising, just saying that it came across as strange, and it's a bit of a clusterfuck to watch.

Billie Joe needs enunciation lessons. I don't care what anyone says, that man could be reciting the bible half time and I wouldn't understand without googling the lyrics.

I couldn't decipher the lyrics to JOS for *months*. I had a policy of memorizing lyrics all by myself, but finally had to cave and Google them.

Oh god, Letterbomb was the worst. But I think somewhere around Warning he actually learnt to speak. I'm convinced pre Warning he literally just hummed.

"Blaah raah ora potions again, mah temper SNERHPS anna get myself allwoundup..."

There are probably songs I still don't know the words to because of his delivery. It doesn't much bother me though, there's nothing like a good punk snarl.

It's less of a snarl and more of a fevered slur. :P

Does anyone think it's kinda weird that the Trilogy was meant to be a huge massive fun project for the guys, and yet Mike, Tré, or even Jason contributed exactly zero lyrics to it?

I was actually discussing this with my brother earlier and he suggested that Green Day should change their name to "The Billie Joe Show" :P

Same goes for half of their albums (with one set of lyrics or less contributed by them even in the ones they did contribute lyrics to). Billie is the band's lyricist you know :P. And I'm pretty sure writing lyrics isn't the only way to have fun while making an album.

You know their cover of Eye Of The Tiger?? I had an easier time making out what he was saying there.

I think I've more or less memorized the lyrics of all the songs except Bab's Uvula Who? because of this.

This is true. He is the lyricist, so therefore I assumed...y'know...he would write the lyrics

They're my favourite lyrics ever but I don't know what any of them actually are.

No matter what Mike would've done, I don't think it could have looked like any more or less of a clusterfuck. Mar and I were messaging back and forth while watching it and the minute he belted out the first line of AI we knew something was up.

I don't know all the lyrics to most of Insomniac for that reason also, to me that album is Billie's worst slurred singing.

Yeah but that makes Billie unique vocally!

You folks really made my (Green) Day, because now I know it´s not only due to my lack of English skills that I have difficulties in understanding this... and that... and even more... this... and that.... now it makes sense! Love Green Day! :D

I think it's the actual tone of his voice that makes him so unique. And his lung capacity. Boy's got lungs!!

lol what you should listen more carefully because it's probably the best album to listen in full
